Total Time = 1h 16m 15s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = mixed relay
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

Doing this as a relay (my first) with Christine (LUCY) doing the swim, me on the bike and my friend John (a runner who wants to get into tris) doing the run. We met up and got ready
Swim
  • 12m 20s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

Cristine (Lucy) did this portion and she totally kicked butt :) I guess they let people go out to the first buoy and start from there due to waves. I went swimming after the race and all I can say is the waves at Solana beach were 3 times as big.
What would you do differently?:

Christine did AMAZING....nothing
Transition 1
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Took the chip off Christine and put it on my ankle
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 31m 55s
  • 10.43 miles
  • 19.61 mile/hr
Comments:

This was my section...there were 2 relay teams on the course in front of us and I chased them both down. There were hills....that killed me. Fast on the way out and headwind on the way back last 3 miles. Just couldn't do any better than 19ish on the way back.
What would you do differently?:

Ride hills, don't start out so fast
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

I had trouble finding the end of the velcro to get my timing chip off and put it on Johns ankle
Run
  • 30m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

John said it was hard running on the sand
What would you do differently?:

He did much better than I ever could !!!
Post race
Warm down:

Met up with my team....found out WE WON!!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my sucky hill skills. I took it out too hard the first 3 miles (average 22 MPH +) and then didn't have much for the hillss

Event comments:

The post race activities were the best of any race I have been to. I need to get frigging healthy so I can race again. Overall we had fun :)Sprained my GOOD ankle unpacking the car at home...I swear I am doomed to not run or be an aquabike athlete

Sue and Lucy...you guys kicked butt and glad you had your friend John come and introduce him to tris with a win too!!

Speedy swim...you did 880 yds in about half of what I did my 880 swim today in....friggin awesome!!

Sue...nice bike time....hills in FL...now that is a first....I'm so proud of you...participating in tris in a way that you can still heal (no twisting of ankles while unloading your bike).

Glad you brought a new triathlete into the mix!

Congrats on winning!! Sounds like you had a blast too!!

Hey 19.6 mph avg is nothing to scoff at- that's pretty darn good! So how did you like doing a relay instead of racing alone? Let me know, cause we have one in 2 weeks. take care of your ankle okay? Glad you guys had a great race.

Sue, that was an awesome bike!  Sounds like you had that little QR motoring!  Sorry to hear about the ankle, but I'm sure that'll heal up quickly.
