Has anyone done the Nation's Triathlon in Washington D.C. I want to do that one next year (2010) since this year is sold out already. I wanted to see what everyone thought of this one.

Doing it this year for the first time.  Supposedly the course is fairly flat and fast.  I would suggest going to the Race Log here on BT and reading some of the various race reports from people that have done it in the last few years to get a sense of the race.

I'm doing it this year.  Will be my first Olympic, and really looking forward to it.

I'm wondering, what the water temp will be.  My guess that in September the water will be pretty warm, and no need for a wetsuit.

A friend did this last year and said it was really nice.  She liked it for the same reason that I'm doing it:  biking past all the monuments.  The swim was OK, the bike and run are relatively flat.  It should be fun, its just a little pricey.

I'm registered for this year. At my last race, I was complaining about the disgustingness of the pond water, and someone said, "wait till you have to swim the Potomac." Is it that bad?

My wife and I went to watch it last year because I knew several people racing.  It was a great venue for a race.  The finish line photos had the Capitol Building in the background.  It was awesome!

Of course I'm registered this year.  Cool

I did the sprint version of the Dextro Energy Tri last weekend--same venue, almost the exact same route-- and I didn't think the water was bad at all. Race temp was 73, a very comfortable wetsuit swim.

As others have said, bike and run are pretty flat and fast, with incredible scenery. I'm signed up for Nation's too, and I can't wait!

well hopefully for the nation's tri, you won't have all that rain runoff/debris.  That didn't look like fun during the swim at the dextro energy ITU event.

No its not. It is the Anacostia River that is worse. The Potomac has actually gotten better over the past few years. I too would like to do this one next year as I used to live up there and still have family there, and hence a free place to stay. Laughing

I'm signed up!  Roadtripping from FL with a friend.  Of course, that is providing the military doesn't ruin my plans...they have recently told me to clear my schedule for the next year...so, my participation may be last minute decision...all depends on where they send me when.

They did a good job skimming it up, so by wave 9 (when i started) it was all cleared up.

I did it a couple years ago. The first time it was a tri. They have changed the course a few times, this year the finish isn't on PA ave but instead by tidal basin.  The swim in the potomac is fine, and it is a well run event

What do you fly?

Thankfully, I'm still protected from deployment by virtue of still being in training... Hooray for fellowships.

I didn't think it was that bad.  It was choppy and cloudy.  There were a couple of places were it smelled like gas from the boats a lot (especially under the bridges), but it wasn't so bad that I wouldn't do the race again.

Considering I haven't ridden a bike in almost a month and I've only put in 1,000 yards in the past month ........ preparing to get my azz totally kicked in the race!  And then a week later I have another olympic down in DE.  Ah well, I'm not there to win!

Hah! You sound like me..... No great expectations for this race, but with 6,000 participants, it'll be more like a bike tour of Washington than a race, anyway.....
