Subject: RE: Classmarmadaddy - 2009-06-17 10:45 AM verga - 2009-06-16 3:24 PM I remember reading that once you register for a class that you have to stay in that class for the year. I recently completed my first Tri as a Clyde at a healthy 205. Since then my weight has dropped to 199 and I anticipate being around 195 for my next Tri. Legally can I enter in my age group (44-49)? I have virtually no chance of finishing in the top three, I was second last in my first Tri, and I am not going to stop with the weight loss. I don't want to do anything to jeapordize my future standing.
thanks Verga Clydesdale and Athena are not official USAT classes or age groups. They are separate scoring/grading categories that are instituted and defined at the pleasure of the people and organization putting on a specific race. The race you did in Virginia and the one in Buffalo are run by separate entities so there's no requirement to register as a Clydesdale for Buffalo. USAT Standings are based on date of birth (Age Group ), not weight. Actually, the USAT Competitve Rules do "officially" define those weight classes: 3.2 Age Group Competition. a. All age group athletes must participate and compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete’s age on December 31 of the year of the event. b. Clydesdale/Athena Categories. The official minimum weight standards for this category is 200 pounds for men, 150 pounds for women, to be monitored by the local race director. The age breakdown will be 39 years of age and under and 40 years of age and over. But you're correct as far as the standings. |
