![]() Another thread got me thinking about my latest furry critter. I'm a guy who likes cats. Apparently that's odd. Oh well. This one's different. The cat rescue people have a few cages for "save a cat" and I noticed this one was there after two/three weeks. I asked why. She was semi-feral. They called her Satan Cat. Anyone put their arm in the cage, she drew blood. I came by the place and sat there with the door open and put my hand in the cage on the shelf below where she was crouched. She swiped at me for a couple minutes then sat in the corner and then sat in the corner glaring at everyone. I kept one arm in and played angry birds and moved my hand up to her shelf as time went by. 3 hours later I was petting her. I adopted her the next day. She doesn't get along one bit with my other cats so she gets the invisible fence collar and the house is as divided as Korea. Well, she's taken to sitting on the couch with me whenever I'm downstairs watching college football. She likes Alabama too (Roll Tide). I'm starting to get comments about cat food pizza and beer and how that would go well with this whole football thing. I'm trying to break it to her I don't drink so there's no beer in the house and I lost any taste for pizza years ago so I doubt she's going to get a feline crunchy pizza any time soon. Hmmm, there's nothing quite as pouty as a cat not getting her way ![]() |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Adopted one of those "Satan cats" when I was a kid, too. They were taking him out of the cage to euthanize for being "vicious" and I grabbed him and took him home. After a few initial bites and scratches, one of the most affectionate critters I ever met--15 years of lovin'! He loved TV and cheese curls (Mom's addiction). You could try getting her onto cheaper TV snacks. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My parents once found a tiny kitten chained (yes, chained) to the exhaust vent of the buildings a/c unit on the roof of their NYC apt building in the middle of summer. The poor thing was badly dehydrated and almost dead. They were able to revive it and adopted her but I think the trauma of her early life had already taken its toll. She was a stone cold killer. She would attempt to maim anyone who got near her, including my parents who loved her in spite of it. Once she hid under my bed and, when I put my foot on the floor, she sunk her claws into my calf so deep that she couldn't pull them out, and I had to use both hands to unhook them as she mercilessly clawed at me with her other paw. Eventually she settled down a little as she got older, but never lost the ability to terrify my parents' guests. Once they had a friend stay at their place while they were away, and the girl spent the entire week in combat boots to protect her feet. She finally died of old age at may parents place in Galveston. They buried her near the beach and she was eventually washed out to sea by Hurricaine Ike. Some cats are just hell-raisers. Sounds like you found a good one. |

I started that thread to be a lighthearted weird thread. Unfortunately it seems there are some whose whole purpose in life is to eliminate lightheartedness. I tore my clothing and covered my mirrors as that thread is dead to me now. |

Maybe you should wean her off football and onto musicals If I put the movie Hair on my Tuxedo cat (boy) will sit and stare at the TV for the whole movie. I have no idea what he sees in that one. Sadie (Satan cat) likes Alabama football but will leave if I have an Auburn game on. That one's funnier than hell. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My cat followed us home one night and just didn't leave, but at least he was relatively cheap... Water and popcorn were really all that he demanded. Good kitty. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have one of those cats we found starving as a small kitten about 10 years ago. He is really sweet as long as there is food out, but if he gets hungry, say in the middle of the night, and is out of food - he will jump up on counters, dressers, whatever and start knocking stuff, usually loud breakable stuff, to the floor. And an automatic feeder won't help because then he eats till he makes himself sick... and that is a whole other problem. He's lucky I love him, though he has been hurled out the door in the middle of the night a time or two!! |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is how my cat was when I adopted him, or I should say he took ownership of me! He was in the shelter for 5 months, and it took him almost 2 years to slowly make his way from the very end of my bed up to where I could actually snuggle up with him. He had food bowl issues because he had been starved so every night he would freak out over his bowl. It was a long couple years. Fast forward to today: my best friend is 17 years old and the most lovey, cuddly creature. He's taught me patience and to never give up on something or someone, but instead to keep trying to reach out on their terms. And I look back and realize that not only did he need me, but I needed him equally or maybe even more so. Thanks for sharing your heart warming story! |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Since CoJ is all about tangential thoughts... When you look at related posts you see a listing for Cat4/Cat5 racing, I wonder how that works, my cats only race when they hear the can opener. Edited by BrianRunsPhilly 2013-06-01 2:43 PM |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As for Cat racing, my Smudgee is ready to move up from Juniors and get his adult Pro card. Long legs and incredibly fast. Endurance must be good too as I've watched him chase a bug for over an hour. Maybe Purina could sponsor? |
