My comp had it at 31.33 and everyone I talked to had it from 31.25 to almost 32.

What did everyone else have for distance?  Was the HIM long too?

I had ~31.5.

Apparently some folks in the Quarter were confused and turned left at the turn around on Mill on the first lap instead of turning right to go up Curry and College. They came into transition reporting ~27 miles.

I'll download my Garmin data here in a bit and report.

Swim was long too for my group. I was 10 strokes off the stairs when the gun went.

I was thinking during the half that the 1/4 must be long because the out and back part they cut off the second loop was clearly not 1/2 of a lap.  They should have cut that part off both laps if they wanted it to be closer to a true 1/4.

My comp said 31.1 , I knew it was going to be long. But last night there web site said 27. And I bet there list will show us for 27 when they post it. The swim felt long but I did it in 28minutes so it couldn't have been too much longer then posted. That is about avrg for me.

Let's call it 31.4. I forgot to hit the "lap" until I was part way into transition off the
bike. Still, I averaged over 21, so I'm pretty happy with my bike.

It also has the run as about 6.6, so a shade long there too. That being said, definitely
within the margin of error/accuracy.

I'm interested to see the final results to see if I managed to make my
super secret goal (shh...don't tell anyone) of 3:00, even with the long
run and swim. It'll be close.

x2 on the great race everyone. Weather was awesome.

Got to see lots of you before the race and a few during. Rick, Jot and I barely got into the water by the time our gun went off - - we were nowhere near the starting bouys.  I got to see Mirg, Tanya, and Robot on the bike. And I saw Javamom  and Ox  come down the chute close together (I thought you were gonna try and sprint around her Cody..).

Yeah, that was me. I realized it just after it was too late to turn around. I should have known the course better but it didn't help that the volunteer at that point just said, "QM to the left, HIM to the right". Oh well, I did it, I finished and it should have only been 27 miles anyways. I hope I don't get DQ'ed but whatever (I don't think that will happen since there wasn't a timing mat to ride over, was there?). Lesson learned!

Yeah, that cost me some time.

1) An extra 40m of swimming while on the clock (big deal for a slow swimmer like me).
2) Not able to adjust goggles and make sure they weren't leaking (not much time honestly)
3) Not able to "warm my wetsuit" so had to spend an extra 30 seconds in T1 in the port-a-potty.

and this end's today's episode of "Too Much Information" by Jot.

  • .. and we were in the middle of our wave. Guys at the end got hosed. Heard the
  • same thing happened to the wave after us.

I heard some say as long as 31.7, but I think 31.5 is probably the number. Great day and congrats to you all!

31.45 according to my bike computer which I started at the mount line and stopped at the dismount line.

The intersection with the "split" was a total Charlie Foxtrot.  As someone else said, when the quarters came though the first time the guy was talking about the quarter SECOND loop and saying "Quarter second loop go left".  But he mentioned NOTHING about the first loop and if you're not from around here you easily could have assumed that this must be the start of the second loop.  However, about 10 feet after this guy was chalk on the ground pointing to the right for the quarter first loop.  But I barely saw it in time.  Anyway, you'd have to be a rock star to be on your second loop at that point!  I think the volunteers manning that intersection just were not giving clear directions.  So I think a LOT of people cut out the loop.

If your time was lightning fast and you were near the top of your AG they were definitely removing people from the results (i.e. DQ).  But they spoke with you first if you were on the ragged edge.  So, if you cut it but still don't ride fast...you probably got away with it.

Yeah, had I rode the 31.5 or whatever it really was I would have averaged 22.something MPH which would have been very fast for me but I don't think that would be an unreasonable bike split. I guess it depends on what everybody in my AG did as to whether or not I'll get DQ'ed. I guess I deserve it as we should never rely on the volunteers but there's noting I can do about it now. This is something I'll take with me into my next tri.

Great race everyone. I too swam a little futher than I wanted to. The makers werent every well marked, in the water. I think I swam an extra 250 meter weaving in an out of the swam lane.

Half bike, with my Garmin I clock at 65.83 miles, damn I was glad it was short from the 58 miles.. Sweet i finished my first Half Ironman distance.!!!!!!!

Cheater! LOL Just kidding Mirg. When I went by the first time and the guy was already saying second loop for quarter turn hear, I was like, uh what the... are you talking about. Almost confused me too, luckily I was chasing another guy that was in the quarter so it kept me going the right way. I feel bad for all the people that got DQed for the poor direction.

Well I just checked and I didn't get DQ'ed but it puts a bad taste in my mouth (insert dirty joke) that I didn't follow the course. I guess it's just one of those things you learn in this sport. I'll be sure to study a map next race.

Great job again BTW on your race. You were smokin on the run. I'd kill for some of that speed

Hey Mirg don't beat yourself up for missing the turn. That is what happens when you got too much going on with school and all.

    and thanks!
