I am going to Israel next week on a group/organized trip.  As part of our experience, a couple of people from the army and going to spend time with us talking about their lives.  It is suggested that we bring a little token, to say thanks, in the form of some kind of Canadian souvenir.  Any suggestions??

Beer.

I've heard from more than one person stationed overseas that they like the comfort things from the States...daily things to make their life easier. Hope that puts you on some kind of track...

Last time I went to Canada, which was coincidentally this time last year, I brought back a tub of nougats for a friend of mine. So delicious and individually wrapped. Perfect for sharing!! For myself, I brought a lot of Coffee Crisp. Good stuff!!!! Mmmm.. Coffee Crisp.

Canadian Army? Tims coffee is a good suggestion as they might be missing it and quite often overseas the coffee is not so great.

Israely Army? Book about Canada. Maple Candy?

I second the beer.  Molson.  My other thought was snow.  So a cooler of Molson packed in Canadian snow.

What every good soilder in their situation would want... porn.

I kiiiiiiiid, I kiiiiiiiiiiiiid.

Kinda.

Beer is good, but not easy to carry.  If you really want to get to the heart of the matter (and there's not too many of them) you could always ask.  What they're missing may seem very unusual to you.

thanks for all the great ideas.. some might work, but I am going to be "backpacking" for about a week before I meet the soldiers (who are from Israel, not Canada) so food/beer might not work out too well.  Kinda has to be small and easy to carry around.  Maybe playing cards with a typical Canadian scene on the back??

I vote for the beer, but it would have to be blessed by a rabbi firstt, to make it Kosher.

I did some work in Iqaluit back in a day. My favorite Canadian souvenirs are small stone carvings. I have a dancing walrus that I love. They might be a little too pricey down south though.

It depends on how much you want to spend also.  You could buy Roots caps or tuques.  Maybe even fill them full of poutine ....
