Too quiet over here...

What's everyone's race plans for the remainder of the summer and do they have a Athena & Clydesdale category at your races?

I'm doing the Chicago Tri and am racing "Lady Clydesdale" (why they call it that and not Athena I don't know) the Tri is so large there is 3 weight categories for each male and female! Whee.

I've got 1 more race this season (my first season, and I'm only doing 2 total) and yep, racing Clyde.  My race last weekend I was next to last in the division, but I hope to do better on the next one.

Still prepping for this 150 mile charity ride, then will concentrate on running/swimming. Im too vested in this charity ride to get injured as I havent ran much for years.

Had signed up for and planned on doing my first HIM on July 19th.  But due to some ongoing injuries, haven't been able to run outside much...and therefore am severely undertrained and unprepared for this distance.  So I'm deferring my race entry towards next year's race.

However, I may sign up to do an OLY on August 9th...if I feel I can get enough swim & run training in by then.

And yes, I will compete as Athena if I'm 150 or > (currently hovering in the high 140's).

My plans for this year are HHH 100 mile ride in august. Prarie man sprint in Dallas sept 13th, and Livestrong challenge Austin, Tx. 90 miles on October 29th.  The prarie man will be my first Triathlon.

Doing the Danskin Sprint on 8/16, the TRek Sprint on 9/20 and also doing the swim leg of an Olympic relay on Sept 12.  No Athena in the Danskin but they do have it for the Trek.

I still have a half dozen event.  Some have C/A and half don't...

My goal is to podium in Clydes for my HIM this fall.  I won that division in the same race last year but for the IM distance.

At least a sprint a month until October.  Next race is in 2 weeks.  Losing weight so I think I'm dropping down from Super Clyde (225+) to regular ol' Clyde.

It's been a busy summer for this Athena so far.....I did a sprint on the last weekend of May to start the season (no Athena category) and then the following week did my A race, Olympic, in which I bested last year's time by 15 min and got 1st place Athena.  Then another sprint in which I got 1st place Athena, 16th overall, plus set a PR for sprints....then ran my first half marathon, finishing in under 2 hours and ahead of lots of other runners!  My 1/2 IM plan started the day after the 1/2 mary, so I've not been reaching my training goals this week as I have been recovering from June.....

I have a long sprint on July 18, another on August 15, and if all goes well, I'll do a 1/2 IM mid-Sept.  I am questioning my ability to fit in all of the training time, since with the kids out of school, my training time has decreased.....but I am going to try.  If nothing else, I'll be in great shape for an Olympic that is on the same day and at the same location as the 1/2 IM......so we'll see.  I've also been busy with the LUNA Chix workouts and clinics--a great addition to my life, and I am so pleased to be a part of that!

I have my first Oly on July 26 and the race does have an Athena category.  I'm a little nervous for my first Oly, but excited!  I also did a 5k yesterday and set a new PR - 30:38, which is my first 5k at 9:xx min miles!

At 206 and falling, there is a chance that I will not qualify as a Clyde at my next race with this category (Nation's).

Busy busy, did 2 sprints already with one more at the end of July. Then 2 olympic distances in August and a nice treat doing the Las Vegas olympic in September at Lake Mead.  Then switch to training for the 70.3 in California this March. Might be tough as essentially all my training after October will have to be indoors.  Lots of snow and cold up here!

Just finished my second sprint.  Have two races next month, another in September and a X/C tri in October.

All 'real' triathlons have clyde divisions.  The X/C (paddle, X/C run and MTB) does not.

Hello

I am new here but ready to learn from those who have already traveled this road.

My first Sprint-Triathlon will be 16 August.  Charleston, SC

At 6"5" &  257  I may be the largest Clydesdale.   I just want to finish the race.

I have be road biking for over a year so the ride will not be the issue and running my not be pretty but I should be able to chug along.   Swimming in a fresh water lake will be the problem.

Does anyone ever do the backstroke?   Freestyle just is not cutting it.

Kevin

I've got a big 70.3 in two weeks and then a local sprint the following week. Undecided after that. I never seen the C/A division in any of my races.

After rereading this and not being able to edit - I meant all *MY* 'real' triathlons have C/A's, my  X/C tri in October does not have one.

I was not inferring that only real triathlons have C/A divisions.  Sorry if there was any confusion

So I take it that Clydesdales are 200+?  If so, count me in at 5'11" 220lbs.  I was up to 255 and got down to 233.  I am now down to 220 and I hope to be down to 205 - 210 by my first OLY on Sept. 13th.

Hey Kevin,

You are not alone in that my goals are 1. Don't get DQ'd  and 2.  Finish.  haha

As far as swimming, my friend recently did a 1 mile swim and said that he had to resort to backstroke because he knows it's relaxing and he can do it all day.  Me, I was in the Navy and I can do a "combat swim stroke" for a long time.  I'm working on getting better at freestyle but I'm not concerned about any open water anxiety because I can combat swim the entire way if absolutely necessary.

I had to scratch my OLY, so I only have two sprints and a half-mary. My last sprint is at a waterpark, and they give you free entrance for the day; soooo... I signed my kids up to do the race as a team. Now we just need to get DH there so we can have a family fun time!

Nah, I'm only 6' but about 270, there's plenty of big folks tri'ing! And yes, I've seen backstroke, you do what's comfortable and enjoy the forward progression!

I'm considering an HIM in Oct but a calf injury is looking to keep me from being able to train for that distance. In the interim, I'm looking for another Sprint so that I can help get my cousin out on a course this summer. Oh, got a race this Sat. too (no clyde division, small local race I'm doing for fun w/ some friends).

Thanks for starting a good conversation in this quiet forum as of late!

Well... if you go by BMI you're a lightweight Clyds.. It's all relative.

I'm 5'5 and 220 so by no means a lightweight... although I'm still hoping to drop another 20 before the end of next month, and even at 220 you're BMI would be lower if that makes you feel any better. I'm thinking Even though I did an Oly last summer I probably should have stuck to a sprint this summer if I was being smart. My goal is only to finish even if it is slightly slower then last year.
