Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Uh, that guy who hit that lady was a tool. He didn't even SLOW DOWN. He barely even glanced back. It's obvious that he didn't give a r@t's @ss that his poor bike handling skills ruined another person's dream. Gosh, it even looks like he almost went after her! I mean... didn't someone on BT in a race (which one?) recently stop when he saw a lady hurt on the side of the road? He not only stopped, but sat with her until she wasn't dizzy anymore and he knew help was on the way... and he didn't even do anything to make her crash her bike! PS- Too bad we can't see his race number! Race number = get his name. Edited by KSH 2009-06-24 3:25 PM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Danm, I hate that. I'm sure it was not intentional...but like Karen said, he should have stopped. BTW, I suck at bike handling too....so if you ever find yourself in a race with me, give me a wide berth becuase I can see myself doing this accidently too. The difference is, I'd of stopped...and give you my bike if need me.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Geeze...at least stop and make sure the person you just knocked down was okay. Looks like something that is common in road races with some contact, but not something most tri-only people experience. Decent quality video, wonder what camera/device the individual was using (assume it was a fellow competitor). Most of the in-race video's I've seen posted are shakey grainy. |

Looks like something that is common in road races with some contact, but not something mostĀ tri-only people experience. Decent quality video, wonder what camera/device the individual was using (assume it was a fellow competitor). Most of the in-race video's I've seenĀ posted are shakey grainy. Here is the info on the person who filmed it.. it was not a competitor: Sunday, June 21, 2009. I was working the RCV day shift in CdA, ID. At approximately 0847 I witnessed this incident involving a white male age grouper and a white female AGer just past the Potlatch Hill Road overpass. It appears from the RCV cam that the perp failed to use due care and caution, losing control of his bike and swerving into the victim with excessive force, causing her to fall, and most likely (although this has yet to be confirmed) forcing a trip to the hospital and the termination of her race. Very sad. The issue (as a RCV Public Service Announcement) is: What do we do with this? As the statue of limitations has already passed, what positives can we take away from this? You can choose the multiple-choice options listed in the video or list your own in the comments section below. I ended my shift at mile 112 and went for doughnuts and coffee. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dang...all that training she did that was negatively effected by that idiot. It sort of looks like he was waving at someone and swerved. How amazing that he did not stop but kept on riding that is the sad part. Accidents happen but then to do nothing and keep on with your race even though you ruined or severely wrecked someone else is so sad. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm pretty sure this is the lady who fell about 2 miles into the bike, fractured her left clavicle, and continued on to finish the race. I saw her running with an ice bag on her shoulder and arm in a sling. She didn't get any other treatment until well after the race when she finally came to the ER to get some pain meds. Tough, tough lady! Totally agree the guy who hit her is a complete DB. Edited by Flyboy 2009-06-26 7:58 AM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ... but what to do when they find him? Give him a variable time penalty? DQ his official race results? Personally, I believe they ought to pull his USAT membership for a period of time so that he cannot race WTC or USAT sanctioned races. |

The way this lady fell in the video I would have bet my next paycheck her clavicle was broken. I hope she was able to continue on. I like the idea of revoking the moron's USAT membership or just WTC not letting him into any races for the next 5 years. Edited by Flyboy 2009-06-26 9:32 AM |

I think I read somewhere that she had to go to the hospital and couldn't complete the race. I am not sure about the penalty, or what it should have been. it has to be something that's in the rules, I would think. I wouldn't necessarily want the WTC to start making up ad hoc rules. There may be something already (endangering other athletes?). Everyone makes mistakes and veers now and then, hopefully it doesn't result in this. I don't think you can penalize cause of the crash, that's just being a poor cyclist. The real problem is not stopping, and is there an existing rule to cover that? |

Probably only the thoughtlessratbastard rule of what goes around comes around.

![]() JoshKaptur - 2009-06-26 8:35 AM I totally agree about the DB comments. But, ummm... why didn't the person filming it stop either??? Good question. He said he was working the RCV shift.... not sure what that is. In the comments section on youtube he apparently wrote in response to the same question: Take a closer look. The incident happened right at an aid station and you will see a man standing within five feet of the down rider, then there is an official race support vehicle and a moto coming in the opposite direction less than 30 seconds after the incident. In my opinion at the time there was not much I could do? to assist. Perhaps that is why I posted, thinking it might help. Data enough? I agree with your assessment on the sadness. Thanks your your comments. |
