OK so no one seems to be as excited as me .. maybe no one else knows that Cedar Point has been voted the Best Amusement Park in the WORLD 12 consecutive years running. Their rollercoaster linup is nothing short of legendary.

em73 and I may make the trek, but we are planning to do Placid, as our first IM so we aren't sure we can recover enough.

Don't let the crickets bother you.  This race will probably end up being very successful.

I'm definitely excited. I was thinking having another go at IMFL next year and signed up to volunteer this year, but when I saw the announcement on the Rev3 full distance, I thought I would rather do that.  I think hubby would rather I do it, too. More fun for him since he loves rollercoasters!

website has race course maps on there... fairly flat course... but it's Ohio near the lake...

whenever I think I might be ready to try a Full, that is high on the list for possibilities.

I didn't know they were going to have a HIM, now I may be in for this.  I won't be ready for another IM next year.

Awesome news about the him.  Was bummed because there is no way I could do Im by next september but a HIM might be in the cards.  Road trip time.

I am on the mailing list- registration opens sept 1st. They will have HIM and IM. They do have alternate plans in case the lake proves angry (see Steelhead 70.3 races) in which they can do the swim off the other side of the park in a move sheltered bay.

Oops - sorry - I didn't see this thread.
When I searched for the race, nothing matched, so I started a new one. (See Cedar Point Official Thread)
Anyway, I am signed up and excited!

This is being done by Heather Gollnick's racing company. Looks like her husband is the race director.

And I saw something about live GPS athlete tracking being included!

I signed up for the Half and it was the hardest thing I have had to do.  I told myself last year I was taking this year off from Full Distance and ended up doing the American Triple T, Ironman Louisville and have Beach to Battleship full coming up in 8 weeks.  I then made a deal with myself if I am doing all that this year for sure I will take next year off from the full's...I get to the site yesterday and couldnt believe how hard it was to choose just the half.....i think it took me 20 minutes to finally click register.
Im really looking forward to this event

I'm considering the HIM... a lot of fun options for before and after the race (ie Kalahari, the park itself, Put-in Bay.

Swim wise: Lake Erie rarely gets super rough like Lake Michigan or Huron. It will be warm because it is super shallow compared to the others. It is nice to have the option for a Sandusky Bay swim in a just-in-case situation.

Bike... Super flat. Only have to worry about wind coming off the lake.

Run... A little disapointed that it doesn't look like it takes you though much of the park which was very surprising to me.

I'm thinking the finish will have incorporated the "main street" area in the front of the park, at least I hope it does.  I'm planning on the full distance race, would be my first.  Got so excited I went out and bought my first trainer.  Long winter coming up fast!

Yay!
Good to see all the people signing up and getting excited!

The stuff I am seeing on the site looks like they are really making an effort to be family friendly. Should be awesome!

If anyone is in the OH area, there is an info session on the Rev3 race with a Q&A with 5x Ironman champ Heather Gollnick on 9/9/09 from 6 - 8 pm at Sawmill Creek Resort (www.sawmillcreek.com for directions).

Did anyone else see something about live GPS tracking of athletes? I saw it on the site, but can't find it now.
After spectating an IM for my dh (David tri's) I think this would be AWESOME.
Even the course maps they have up now at Rev3 are superior to the IM course maps for IMKY.

Yes it seems families will be able to track racers with a gps devise tracker.  This is great since families can really enjoy they're day at cedar point and still see their racers coming into transition and during the turn arounds.

I really hope the finish line is inside the park on "main street", that would be sweet!!!!!!!!!

Gathering the funds for the entire series.  See you at the info session.  hope to meet some of you!!

The live tracking will be done via Trakkers, which launched this year at the CT Rev3 race in June.  The website is still in development: http://www.trakkersgps.com/ but more information should be posted soon.

Essentially, Trakkers is a GPS unit the athlete wears while (training or) racing and spectators can then track their athlete in real time.  The unit reports key information, like pace, as well.  It is going to be awesome!
