Subject: RE: Morning run - did you eat before run?For anything less than a 1.5 hour run, I don't eat beforehand. I do try to stay hydrated during the night though (every time I wake up, I drink a little water ) and have some water after I get up.
When you say you "don't have enough energy to run", what sort of a feeling is that exactly? If you're feeling at all dizzy, lightheaded, nauseated (symptoms of low blood sugar ), that's certainly a problem. If you're just feeling generally tired, maybe you're not allowing enough time between waking and running. I don't do very well getting out of bed and immediately going for a run, so instead I try to take care of all my pre-work stuff (breakfast prep, making snacks for the day, laying out work clothes, feeding dogs, etc. ) before I run. Even though it's only a 15-20 minute difference in time, it's a big change in my energy level when I get out there to run.
For runs of more than 1.5 hours, I eat a couple of pieces of fruit immediately after I wake up. This doesn't cause me any kind of GI issues. If it did, I'd probably use a sports drink instead, and take more sports drink with me in my Fuel Belt for the run.
