Subject: Salute to Bob Stocks - BT Ironman

I know a lot of BTers never make it off this board so I wanted to re-post something that one of our fellow BTers posted on the Ironman board last night after he completed Ironman Lake Placid.  Bob (rstocks3) epotimizes the spirit of BT and the spirit of a true competitor who never forgets the human factor.  I've raced with Bob before and after he was done, he came back out on the course to run with and encourage me and some other BTers.  I am honored to know Bob and proud that he is a BTer!  I hope we all can keep racing triathlons in perspective the way Bob does.

There was another accident on the Keene descent and the guy was unconscious with his bike on top of him in the middle of the road and people were buzzing right by him. WTF is up with people, is a Kona slot or a PR worth leaving someone in the middle of the road? I hit the brakes at 52 mph and climbed back up to see to him until the ambulance got to him. That probably added 15 minutes to the bike time.

One of a kind. This isn't the first time he's done that, either.  Major props again, Robert.

Wow! What a wonderful thing to do and congrats to Bob--he sounds like the true embodiment of the Ironman spirit! Reading this makes me glad I joined BT, what a great place to learn and what great people to learn from.

I believe that guy that Bob stopped to help is a guy named Travis (we have mutual friends). He broke his collarbone and has a concussion, but will be okay. Other than the heartbreak of the DNF of course. His girlfriend finished; she didn't know until she was on the second loop of the run and even then our coach debated telling her until she was finished.

Thanks Bob!

I enjoyed following the BT'ers on the athlete tracker yesterday @ LP and reading the other thread.  As I read Bob's post, I began shaking my head affirmatively and said outloud "that's a true sportsman".

Bob is the epitome of what triathlon is about.  It is an honor and a privilege to know him personally and call him "friend".
