Subject: Is Lost getting really good or jumping the shark?

I watched it on and off last season, got really into it near the end.  The recap was pretty cool....

When Jack was running steps and met Desmond, you just KNEW he was the dude in the silo.....  But, is it getting too too weird, or just really good?  Hard to tell at this point.  With the polar bear, the Others, etc., it upheld the "they're in purgatory" theory.  Now it might devolve into silly soap opera territory..........

Is this a show that you needed to have watched from the beginning? I tried to watch my first episode last night and didn't get it at all. No flow (at least from my perspective)

I don't think Walt's dead - tv guys don't like killing off kids, think it's a premonition.  He did "shush" her, like maybe he is actually on the island?

madcow - yeah, you couldn't have jumped in last night and caught on.  I watched most of the shows last year, and still hard to follow sometimes.

The premise is brilliant, each show would pick a character and follow their backstory, endless opportunities.  But did we learn for the first time lat night that the big guy (?) is a cursed multi millionaire?

I bought the first season on DVD and am trying to catch up. Tivo'd the premiere and will watch it after I get through the first season. I watched much of the first season but missed probably 30% of the episodes.

No, there was a whole episode on him last year.

I thikn the big questions now revolve aorund Desmond (the guy in the bunker) How is he tied to Jack? Did he "fix" Lockes paralysis like he did with Jacks wife? What's he doingon the island and is he sick or is he ok and everyone else is sick? And does he have any previous ties to anyone else on the island. Remember, "they're all there for a reason" according to Locke.

Lost is awesome.....love the show!!! I haven't missed and episode yet (DVR is a wonderful thing). Now you want to talk about a show that is about to "jump the shark"....Alias...there I said it. I used to love that show and Jennifer Garner was #1 on my "freebie list" not anymore though...man do I hate Ben Affleck....but I digress...Alias will be cancelled by seasons end....mark my words!

Desmond's not sick...my dh had a good point. The hatch said "Quarantine" from the INSIDE...that means he was quarantined from everybody on the OUTSIDE of the hatch...other islanders, etc.

Dh tried to start watching last night...too much to catch up on.  I, however, and HOOKED.

Maybe Desmond was part of the group that the crazy french chick came to the island with and when the others got sick he took off down the silo and left her behind.

But what do the numbers mean?

My guess is that Desmond is seperate from Danielle and The Others. I'm thinking maybe Ethan was his roommate orsomething. Although that would mean that they are allowed out of the hole and aren't really quarantined.

I caught the first episode of Lost and then school got in the way of my TV viewing. I kinda wish I hadn't. I need to find someone with the season 1 DVD so i can catch up now that my school schedule isn't nuts.

Who built the Silo/underground bunker?  The computer stuff is from the 60s.

Didn't they think that maybe another part of the plane crashed on the other part of the island?

One question?  Who was Ethan from last years episodes.  The guy that kidnapped the PG girl..Was he from the plane?

One thing my friends and I thought is that the writers need to NOT be afriad of giving out some answers. This type of show is really tempting to drag out forever and ever, but I don't think it would work.

By the way, I started watching in the middle of hte season last year, and watched 16 episodes in three days to catch up. That's how good it is.

I have a friend who slowed down his video of the premier and thinks that Walt was either whispering "I buried them all" or "I buried Paul." I don't think he's dead, either...they already killed Boone and that should be enough. Besides, Walt's story is too good to lose. There is something totally freaky about that kid. My friends and I think he conjured the plane wreck, polar bears, etc, and this is all related to something he's doing with his head.

And then there's Locke....:::sigh:::

love it.

I don't know that Boone was killed -- he may have been shot, but we don't know yet what happened to everyone on the raft.

Somehow I missed the season finale, and I'm glad I did because I didn't see it until we got the DVDs last week, and it was a good thing since I'd be on pins and needles all summer wondering what happened.

They better give us answers soon about some of the mysteries of the island otherwise it'll get too frustrating to watch.

I think you mean Sawyer, he was on the raft.  Boone died earlier in season one... after having been in the forest with Locke.

Yes yes yes....I know that. Well my brain did but my fingers were thinking of something else.

In any case, I think having previews for next week's episode (on the tail end of this week's) just using old footage was kinda cheesy.

Bear,

It refers to an episode of Happy Days, where Fonzie jumped over a tank full of sharks on water-skis. The episode marked the death of Happy Days as a credible show and hence the phrase has been used to describe shows which are past the time where they should have been put out to pasture

Close enough. There's even a website: www.jumptheshark.com where you can nominate the moment your show jumped the shark.
