Hi all,

contrary to popular belief the Irish don't just get "Rat Faced" (Irish terms for drunk) on St Patrick's day; we do try to wear a little green (we really don't wear green trousers and Aran jumpers - please stop coming over dressed like that to fit in!) but what are you guys doing to help us celebrate?

I'm taking a break from the healthy foods and going with some trifle (very bad mix of layers: Custard, Sponge soaked in alcohol, Jello, Custard, Sponge soaked in alcohol, Jello and on and on...topped with cream) and I may enjoy some other treats but we also have a four mile race St Patrick's morning in Dublin.

Do tell...

Stu

haha stu, perhaps "rat faced" is the southern expression. Up here in Ulster we say "rat arsed". or "rid off"

I think I may go to a celebration held by the chaplaincys here at Queens. Irish stew, music, dance, good craic. Either that or i'll stay in...i'm leaving for italy at 4:30 the next morning.

I'll tip one and toast to the most colorful of the contributors to my ancestry.  I'm too much of a melting pot at this point to claim true Irish heritage.

I'll also be reciting one of my favorite Irish prayers, something about holding onto a blade of grass and not falling off the face of the earth.

Last Saturday in Chicago was the big parade and celebration and it just seemed wrong to be so far before the actual day.

Any of you true Irish lads have any colorful toasts for us Yanks to throw around so we sound like we know what we're talking about?

It's the night before my first sprint tri of the season- so I'll be carbo loading and going to bed early.  Maybe I can drink some green Gatorade to be festive!

Whoa- it looks like her head was shaved without a guard.  I think her hair was shorter than mine.  I just want to see that movie to see her head get shaved.

Working, calling my Irish grandmother in Boston, throwing a wedding shower with lots of green decorations for friends at work, making lasagna for my son's b-day party the next day.

I wish I could say I was going to be in Boston partying with no kids, but that was years ago!

Swim workout, doing taxes, job interview, prepping for visit from evil mother-in-law.

WTF is this - my spouse is Boston Irish Catholic, yet she forbids me from making corned beef & cabbage.

I am working and probably heading to bed early.  No drinking for me - trying to stay hydrated for my race on Sunday, after which I will drink.

I'm trying to convince my husband that it's okay to go out without me.

I'll be having an extended "business" lunch at 11.30am until the conclusion of the Iowa Hawkeyes round 1 tourney game. Other than that, green beers at home with some friends.

I'm in Boston, so partying with the kids is a given...

One friend is hosting a "real men pee green" party and though I'm no man, nor interested in actually peeing green, I'll likely attend and raise a glass or two to my irish ancestors.  It just has to be done!

I love St. Patrick's Day. Okay, who am I kidding, I love any holiday.

It will be hard to top last years St. Pat's as I was in Boston, but it is a good friend of mine's birthday. Unfortunately, we are both racing the next day, so I might have to stop at one beer.

Subject: RE: What you doing for St Pat's???

Oooh, I'll be hanging out with a few BT'ers in Beaufort.  And don't think my cooler isn't packed and ready to go.

I am a Savannah (transplant) girl and we take the beer seriously this weekend.  Believe it or not, Savannah has the third largest St. Patty's day party in the freakin' county.  It is so serious here that all of the kids are out of school that day and the banks (downtown) are closed.  Really.  And we have no open container law, so I have already seen throngs of people touring the city with big ole' beers in their hands.
