1) What do YOU want to do?

2) What does SHE want you to do?

3) Why are you asking a bunch of complete strangers?

Have her join you in the shower for a shaving party and everyone will be happy.  If not, wine, chocolates, flowers, or an hour-long massage with no strings attached has always worked for me.  I have not had to resort to the Kobe Bryant 4 carat ring defense yet.

If it was me ... probably not.  I don't even like to shave my face.

I'm lazy that way.

I started to shave my legs for two reasons

1) I was doing pottery and dried clay in my leg hairs was painful to remove

2) I was MT Biking and getting WAY too many ticks on my legs.  Once I started shaving, no ticks - they dont have anything to grab onto.

I shaved my chest as a goof at first a couple years ago, but then I realized how much cooler (ie less hot) I was.  I get warm very quickly and sweat a lot, and not having chest hair makes me feel like the temp is 5 degrees less.  The reason we have hair is to keep us warm, so not having hair would then make us cooler right?

Ask your wife this - Why does she shave?  The most common answer is it looks better, so why wouldnt it look better on you too.  I mean really, have you ever heard a women say, "WOW look at those sexy hairy legs - I bet you could knit a sweater with all that hair, thats so hot"  Look at professional basketball players, most of them shave down now too.  Once you start, you'll notice how many men are doing it, swimmers, actors, everyone on the Tour de France etc.  But still be prepared to take some ribbing from time to time.  just laugh with them and say "yeah, but dont my legs look good"

I started doing it this summer. I wasn’t especially dedicated to it—I did it once right before a race and then again a day or two before each of my other races, so probably 3-4 times all summer. I haven’t shaved since mid-July. It was definitely more comfortable and cooler in terms of temperature, sunscreen was easier to put on, my physical therapist commented that it’s much easier to do deep tissue massage on someone who has less hair on their legs. And, if I do say so, it looked pretty good once you get used to it.

Are these good enough reasons to do it? That’s up to you. As I said, it’s too much of a pain for me to keep up on a regular basis, but I’ll probably do it again next season.

What's going on in HERE?!?

A little manscaping goes a long way - and I have not experimented with leg shaving.

I don't for a few reasons.  In order of importance to me:

1)  I feel like a...girl.

2)  I'm white, when I shave my legs turn snowman white.

3)  Upkeep.  I'm lazy in terms of hair removal.

4)  It doesn't provide enough benefit.

There are two "benefits" of shaving.  Once benefit is time.   Whether it be wind resistance or water resistance.  This is so little of a difference it hardly matters.  Unless you're extremely elite, its not worth it IMO.  The real advantage comes in case of wrecks on the bike.  Healing does become easier and less painful.  But for me, the sacrifices weren't worth the rewards.

Just make sure ahead of time if you want to shave something else that she is okay with it ....... my wife does not like when I shaved my arms.  She didn't want to touch me.

But she's fine with the legs since I've been doing it for years.

So here's this females opinion....not that anyone asked really.

Shaved legs on male triathletes = HOT!!! love love love For that matter, shaved chest, arms and legs....nothing looks hotter than a male triathletes smooth/hairless tanned skin thats glistens with just a little bit of sweat.

Now will it affect your performance by decreasing times, I imagine not. But you'll make the females that think like me happy! look

GO tom1376 GO...!!!

We (the women) love love muscular/tanned/shaved legs....LOL Big Grin

...what exactly is she giving you a hard time about, and what would your wife prefer: shaved or not?  I pick my battles and have remained happily married for nigh on 20 years by surrendering on the small issues. If you're sitting on the fence and have little opinion on it, go along with what she prefers. Otherwise, a compromise is getting a Philips Bodygroom.

A hard time as in "hahahaha" or a hard time as in "I think it looks terrible"? If it's the former, and you want to shave, go ahead.  If it's the latter, as someone who has been married nearly 25 years, I would say don't do it.

Giving you a hard time? So what.

Threatening to leave you? Then you've got issues.

Do it because you want to. No other reason counts.

I shave it all.  Head, chest, arms, legs, and mid section.  Your wife will like a fresh shaven set of legs just like you do.

It's more in fun (I think) - she says she can't imagine sleeping next to me and feeling smooth legs Laughing

I'm going to do it before my next race in a few weeks and go from there.  she's really cool about things, but it may take her a few days to get past this one.  It's not really a battle as she fully supports everything I do in Triathlon, no matter what.  She understands my passion for it, somehow, and know it leads to a healthy lifestyly.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I'm one of those hairy dudes. My plan was to do a total body shave down for a 5K Open Water National Championship. Unfortunately I fractured my shoulder in February and I lost 10 weeks of training. I still was fit enough to do the swim, but I questioned whether it still made sense to shave down. I decided it was a question of commitment and following through with my plans to race as fast as I could. It was the right decision. I felt that I achieved my goal although I was way off the pace. I also found that I was much cooler and stayed shaved for the rest of the season. I plan to do it again next year.

Check out who else shaves there legs. Hint he was a presidential candidate.

Look at how long it takes for your wives and girlfriends to shower, do you really want to waste all that time shaving every other day?
