Buttercup 14334 | Subject: Team Gear Goddesses Ladies, it's on. You know the men are chomping at the bit to regain their manly standing in the BT community and can you blame them? Of course not. I'm all for men with manly dispositions, as I'm sure you are too. However, we must not let our softer natures unduly influence our competitive nature. Our goal, quite simply, is to WIN. I have a few observations from the Swim Challenge last month which I believe can be instructive for this Bike Challenge. The Chycks started out strong and got in the pool immediately. We continually and steadily reached our weekly goals, whereas the men fell behind early. We took the advantage early and never lost it! Once they fell behind, it became increasingly difficult for them to recover the yards they had lost. The last week of the month they put in herculean efforts but still this was not enough to overcome their deficit. They pulled closer to their goals while Team Chyck continued to pull away and eventually exceeded the team goal. Team Chyck was incredibly supportive of team members and we kept each other advised of our goal deficits and credits, so that the stronger players could pull the weight of any team member who had fallen to injury or burnout. Finally, I believe our opponents simply underestimated our grit and determination. Let us be guided by these lessons -
If you haven't signed up for the challenge and want to be a part of TEAM GEAR GODDESSES, sign up soon! When pledging your goal, please don't make the mistake I made last month with the swim challenge (overestimating my body's ability to quadruple swimming output). This will only lead to burnout and drudgery (my shoulders have still not fully recovered). We want to keep this fun AND productive. Burnout = counterproductive. Feel free to add your inspirational message, observations and/or witty smacktalk. GO GEAR GODDESSES! |

As one who has lost a challenge, I'd like to add that pushing yourself to and beyond your limits (without injury yourself, of course) can provide new insight into yourself as an athlete. It's a valuable thing to do now and then. Ride like the wind in Laramie, WY (ie, hard and lots), Goddesses! |

Champion 5183 Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses yeah, what she said. I definitely got too ambitious with my pledge for the swim, definitely started hating it all, but like kim said, I learned a lot about myself too, and really fought some mental wimpiness. It totally helped having the chycks pm and blog everyone, I got to "know" them better, and the team part was super fun. I also solicited help from other people at teh pool to swim with me, I actually swam with someone I had been way intimidated by bc I knew it would keep it fun. for this bike challenge, I actually signed up for 2 group rides... big for me, the ultimate bike weenie. wait a minute, no, I am not a weenie, I am a GODDESS... rah.... |

Expert 997 North Central WV | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses I am psyched too my fellow Godesses. Great speech Renee. I have a fairly tough total, but I think I can do it. I already have 42 miles for the month. As long as the rain holds out, I honestly think I will make my 350 (which Karl hasn't yet ok'd but he hasn't said no either). Let's go Girls! Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Good points captain Goddess... Keep it strong and steady wins the challenge. Anyone else in for 200 miles? Anyone else in MA or RI we could maybe ride together? I'm still waiting for Carls okay...since I just had my bike computer put on mid-month. How do we calculate the winners..... let's say both teams make their goal and one exceeds it by 200 miles or 5% and the other by 300 miles but only 4% who wins? My husband kept calling me a Mooseman all weekend since that is the Tri I did...I think I like being a Goddess better.... |

We'll do it as they did the swim challenge, by averaging the individual rates of completion. For example:
Even though we only completed 100% of our aggregate goal, you exceeded your goal by a higher percentage than I missed mine, therefore we have achieved over 100%. At leastI think that's the way it's calculated. Edited by the bear 2005-06-06 2:50 PM |

Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses do we have a formal list somewhere so we can inspire each other daily? my goal is meager (150), but a challenge for me... The swim challenge did some excellent things to my training....I focused my swims, and rather than getting in and out for a quick swim, if I have the time I take it. As a result of nearly doubling my mileage in may, my average for a 400 (I'm doing all sprints this season) has decreased by about 15 sec. I am hoping for some similar results on the bike. Plus it was fun!!! GO GEAR GODDESSES (my color button doesn't work either-any advice on fixing?) |
