I can't believe no one has brought up Dara Torres.  She is my new heroine!  She's a mom!  She's older (42?)!  She kick booty!

Did you see the NBC clips of her work outs?  They are crazy mad!  She was doing pull-ups on a bar which to me is fabulous...but she also had weights on her ankles.  What an inspiration.

I bet she'd make a sick triathlete.  Lovin' her (and totally want her abs!)

A great hero to many, and deservedly so.

She actually has been brought up quite a bit, but hasn't had a whole thread dedicated just to her that's in the Olympics forum ...

She looked good in the pool today.  I also thought it was really nice that she wanted to wait for the other swimmer to get up to the blocks so they could all start.  Amazing.

MtnJay - 2008-08-16 12:55 AM Agreed. She is awesome on many different levels

When I saw it live, I was trying to figure out what was going on like everyone else.  After it was explained and they replayed the clip where she was talking to the other swimmers and saying, "We're going to wait for her" and I could really see it - there was something in her demeanor and gestures that just said to me, "That's a MOM talking!!"

I just felt like it was a GREAT example of life experience really making a difference in who you are as an athlete.

Seriously.  You gotta respect an athlete that shows that kind of class in the heat of the competition.  My respect for her went up a few notches last night.

Note to self, do a 1/2 stroke, don't glide. Doesn't matter if I flip all my fingers backwards.

Dara is a good sport. I like her.

parrj - 2008-08-16 8:27 PM And we get to claim her as a former University of Florida Gator.

I get to one up you and claim her as a "friend"  Or at least a good aquaintance

She is definetly a very positive role model for young and old women alike, and a very friendly and upbeat person...btw, when she was 9 months pregnant, I was swimming in the lane next to her with my fins on and she smoked me.  Bad.  And she was just taking it easy.
