Master 2033![]() ![]() | Subject: Wii Fit...Ok, so this is where I tell everyone in addition to triathlon, I am a hard core gamer. I play a lot of x-box 360 (If you want my gamertag PM me!) and my wife is a wii addict. She just convinced me to buy her Wii Fit today so we went and got a copy. I have to say I for one LOVE it! It has over 40 exercises a few of wich got my HR up and I actually sweat in the running game. I REALLY like the strength and yoga workouts. Anyways, I was just curious is anyone incorporating this into their workour routine? I'm thinking of adding it daily first thing in the am. How could some yoga and pushups hurt? On a side not I don't think it is the solution to the obesity problem in America because most people will do a lot of heading soccer balls, downhill skiing, and ski jumping and little else. Those games were fun, but most people will ignore pushups, warrior pose, or tree pose. Still if it plantsa seed or get people moving I guess it's good. Just my .02
What do others think?

(no data here, just opinion) They're standing up, moving around, engaging their core instead of vegging on the couch. I'm not saying they're going to get ripped doing it, but just playing the games engages my core and it's fun so I want to do it more. |

We're not going to lose any weight or get any great gains off of it, but it does make for a great way to get regular TV turned off, friendly who's fitter between the wife and hubby, a great tracking means for weight changes and just fun. It's driving my wife nuts right now, my Wii fit age is 10 years younger than my actual age and way younger than her's! |

Master 2033![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Wii Fit...I think you COULD loose weight on it... I did all of the yoga and strength moves today and noticed it actually gave nutrition advice. It also encourages you to log other activities like playing outside, bicycling running, etc... If you were regimented and worked hard I think it's a great tool, and my wife and I have been fiercely competitive in our scores on various yoga poses, and mini games. I cracked a sweat today... pushup to side plank is hard and the balance board makes you have good form. |

Regular 115![]() | Subject: RE: Wii Fit...I like it because it monitors your daily weight and it makes you do the yoga poses the right way. For those of you who havent played it, it measures your balance while you are doing the poses. If you move to much or quit to fast it gives you a bad score. If you use it the right way it is actually quite helpful. |

We played with my daughter and her boyfriend and they even did yoga poses, which is a bit of a miracle since I've been trying to get her to do yoga with me for about 5 years with no luck. Yay for wii fit! I do plan to incorporate it into my daily training too. I think it will help me get my daily stretching and core work in, cus I'm so bad at getting around to doing it on my own. |

I have not but from what others here are saying seems like their first hand experience is they are getting some exercise. Maybe its like having a fruit smoothy made from yogurt, and frozen fruit? Taste good and it really is fruit. |

Master 1901![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Central, IL | Subject: RE: Wii Fit...My wife bought this two weeks ago. The balance testing is great! Where else can you get this kind of immediate feedback? Interesting. Most important, my daughter is exercising. Anything that gets kids moving is great and the Wii Fit does this in a fun and engaging way. Will it turn my daughter into a triathlete? Probably not but it is a start and she is sticking to it. To label the Wii Fit as just a "video game" is a little short-sided. The way the progam taylors itself to the individual is pretty amazing. I'll be surprised if this type of exercise does not become a big trend in the near future. To brush it aside without first-hand experience using the program is a little short sided. Master 2033![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Wii Fit...Lunges are lunges... Pushups are pushups. This game is a workout if you do it right. I don't think kids will loose weight playing Zelda, but Wii Fit is an entirely new paradigm of gaming. If you have not used it I think you should check it out. Its fun and both times I have played it I was sweating and was a bit sore when I woke up this morning.
Great game... If you are on the fence about buying it try it out... you will LOVE it. |

If there is a circuit training program in the wii fit then I guess that is something, never tried wii fit. My wife says she has a friend who gets sore from doing wii fit and her friend is in okay shape, having done a sprint tri a couple times. If the wii fit allows people to get 30 minutes of continuous cardio in a day everyday I suppose that is awesome. Perhaps I am close minded, I am definitly opposed to a society that is over dependant on technology, but I do not see the appeal. I should also say that I cannot stand the trainer. Now one might say some people get results, and results speak for themselves, one could also say, kids are fat, kids like games, lets "trick" them into getting some excercise by working a little heavy breathing into their 3 or 4 hours in front of the tv (I should also say I dont have kids so maybe this is a huge accomplishment). In the end though, I think you are just further ingraining video consoles into peoples lives, which is fine if that is what you want to do and probably what the makers of Wii want to do. |

I will wait for the reviews. What I want is a really good boxing game. I have the Wii Fit and I've done both the Wii Fit boxing and the Wii sports boxing and both are incredibly fun. I haven't touched the Wii Fit though in about a month so its not part of my regular routine and I don't consider it in place of my normal exercise routine. I think the Wii Fit is awesome for people who wouldn't exercise otherwise. Also I can't even do some of the strength exercises on the Wii Fit because they are hard. In the US, we have a nation of couch potatoes and if something gets them off the couch for 30 minutes, I'm all for it. I've read stories of people who get out of breathe walking 10 feet. For someone who does exercise, its an interesting diversion to be active and yet 'play'. |

I won't use it to replace any of my training, but I have fun on it, and I do sweat a little while doing it. It is interesting to see the center of balance and if it helps in that area, then great. I already do yoga and thought I was pretty balanced, but I have work to do. My kids love it as well, we have some fun family time with it. |

Try the Wii Fit for yourself and then come back here and talk about how its not a workout..until then, yes, you are being closed minded. 2. you say you don't like being dependent on technology...sorry but JMO, this is a ridiculous statement...look at the internet, medical fields, gps systems, etc, etc, etc. , can you honestly say they don't make our lives a little better? as for the gaming systems, sometimes you just need to let off a little steam and rock out on guitar hero or challenge your 5 & 6 year old kids to a family game of Mario Party. |
