I pretty much started getting back on the training track the first of November with a winter maintenance program geared towards getting faster for the bike and run.  The end of February is when "official" training begins.  Working on my weaknesses until then.  Considering that other than running on the weekend, I am pretty much stuck inside from now until then, I like the program I am on.

This will be my second trip to Lake Placid, I completed the 140.6 mile swim last year and want to try all 3 sports !

Edited to add that a June training weekend sounds good, depending on which weekend!

Looks like a lot of the cool kids are racing!  Definitely look forward to meeting everyone (that I haven't yet) and I'm going to try and sign up to be a catcher for the 10 - 12 hour people.  We'll see how that goes!

Funny side note ....... after my mother-in-law stayed with us and worked in the medical tent this year she went to her camp reunion thing and talked with all the different ladies she used to know.  And then she bought a little trailer/cottage from one of them!!  It is about an hour or so away from LP, but it will be free for when we come up so I can sign up!

I am in.  First IMLP, 3rd overall.  Interested in a June training weekend, but not sure it would work out.

I'm wondering what my time will look like compared to IMAZ and IMFL.  Obviously the hills will crush me. :-)  I am very happy with this year's IMAZ time, but it's kind of sad to know I can't beat it at IMLP.  I am looking forward to the swim, that is a great place to swim.

I will visit my plan for the coming year after the Disney Marathon in January.  Will probably start mid-Jan.

I am also on the Columbia/Eagleman/LP plan, with some early spring marathoning.

Please add me to the list. 2nd Ironman, 2nd LP, first of 2009, 2nd of 2009 will be IMAZ.

Yes - interested in a June weekend of training.

Starting my "official" training first week of January.

I'm in as a community funder, so have approx $10 per mile to keep me motivated to train until then.

First IM for me.

Following a plan modeled on the endurance nation philosophy which has me focusing on bike/run power/speed this winter, and then "adding long to fast" via significant volume builds beginning in early spring.

I'm definitely up for an epic training weekend, but concerned about overtraining with Eagleman also in June (I will not go too hard, I will not go too hard, I will not go too hard) and so close to IMLP.  I know I'm not the only one who got sucked into that one-two M-dot punch.

I'm in for IMLP '09. It'll be my second IM and my second time doing LP. I did it this past summer ('08) and am hoping to see a little sun or, at least, feel a few less raindrops next year!

I start my official IM training on Dec. 30. Right now, I am working on my swim stroke and core strenghtening—taking it easy before I ramp up again. So far, my plan is to follow the IronFit (competitive plan) again, but add in a little more intensity in the workouts in the first 3 months.

A training weekend sometime in June for sure. Also, doing Mooseman as LP warmup.

My first IM (please be kind), but I live too far away for a June training weekend.  A great coach in my area (non BT but respected on other forums) sets up an annual plan for me, so I am not sure when exactly "IM training" technically begins -- most likely years ago when we first met!  I am aiming for the hills of Wildflower Long before LP.

Questions:
1. When does your structured training begin?
2. First IM or first IMLP?
3. Anybody interested in a BT training weekend in June 2009 in Lake Placid?

I still need to qualify at FL 70.3 to get a slot but that's the plan. In terms of your Qs:

1. I kicked my 2009 preparation a few weeks ago, the next 6 weeks will be all abot doing general training to get my body ready to handle greater loads. After that it will be all about IM training.

2. First IM

3. I'll be heading up there a few times prob one in May and one in June. I've lead a training camp for the weekend on previous years and it is a blast. It is more of a get together with crazy athletes and do lost of training over 3 days so I am up for doing the same.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all.  I'll be up to spectate/volunteer and grab a slot for 2010.  It will be nice to be up there for raceday and not actually be racing.

I'm in for another round with Lake Placid, hopefully this one will be a bit drier.

I'm following the Endurance Nation Out-season plan right now, which will wrap up at the end of February.  I worked with a coach last year, and I'm undecided if I'll return to him or keep going with the EN training plans.  I'm about a month into it so far, and I like the results I'm seeing.  I'll make a final decision in January.  I'm going to add a power meter to my training arsenal in March, so that will be a factor.

I'm up for a training camp in June.  I went up last year the same weekend as the Lake Placid Half Marathon and got a lot out of the trip, aside from some monster training.  Once I actually saw the course, I felt much better about my chances of survival.  I hope to get up for a bit in May, as well.  My parents live in upstate NY, so I'm hoping I can turn a weekend home into a mini-training camp.

I'm looking forward to this training cycle.  I used last year to learn about training and racing the Ironman distance, and this year will be different.  Now I know what I'm getting into and want to use that experience to make some significant gains.

Good luck everyone!

First IM here.  My TP starts in March, but I'll start structured stuff come the New Year.

I'm doing Columbia/Black Bear... and will be up in LP from 6/12-14.  Planning on 2 bike loops Saturday, 1 run loop Sunday.  And some swimming.

It is going to be tricky for me to get in all the long stuff I need, as I have my two kids every other weekend, and I won't be doing much training those weekends.  I also have them on Wednesday nights, which takes 4 PM Weds through Thursday morning out of the equation.  But, I've managed to move WOs around from the BT Intermediate plan such that I think I can get them all in.

Should be quite the year!!

sign me up!

1st Ironman but have raced at Long Course Worlds

No plans for anything structured. I’m going to enjoy the event.

I have plan to be there in May and June for weekend training.

I’m gladly doing this to raise money to help kids with Cancer. POGO

I'm in for Black Bear - simply for the hills.

This is my first Ironman.

My training officially starts that week that is half Dec / half January. Although right now, I'm kinda "transitioning" into it. And during those early weeks in the plan, I'll be doing more than the plan calls for, but following the structure.

I would definitely be up for BT training weekend.

Newleaf: I'm in the same boat as you with the kids. The way I'm thinking I'll handle it is that the week with the kids, I'll try to get in a longer ride on Thursday evening - maybe even leave work a little earlier. On the weekend, I can still get up early and get in 1-2 hrs. I'm following Don Fink's IronFit plan. On the weeks without the kids, I'll follow his Advanced plan - which basically just adds a big brick on the weekends. So, it's almost like a hard week / easier week plan for me.

I did that exact schedule Columbia, BB and LP last year. Black Bear was the toughest by far. Hills on the HIM were super challenging along with wind and heat. Well run event though. Whatever your time is for a HIM, I would add at least 30 min. for Black Bear.

You are smart to do this before LP, as the hills in LP will seem like nothing to you

Thanks... yes, Black Bear seemed like the perfect training HIM.  I looked at the list of BTers doing Black Bear and it seemed like most of them are also doing IMLP.

I am also planning to do Black Bear as a training weekend.  In retrospect, I wish I wouldn't have been sucked into the Eagleman frenzy and would have just signed up for black bear... but having plunked the money down for Eagleman, I'm quite sure I'll be on the starting line.

Anyone want to tell me that BB + Eagleman isn't a good idea?  I'm all ears.

PS - I was planning on bringing my ski boat to Black Bear... so I hope you're staying an extra day and not planning on killing yourself (I assume it's not an "A race" and will have some waterskiing/wakeboarding legs left in you.
