You mean winners? Tim Tebow= Heisman Trophy Winner Tim Tebow= 2 time National Champion I love the people that now want to start finding fault with the young man because they don't think he'll be a good pro player. Maybe he won't be. But that in no way shape or form lessens his accomplishments in college. |

Hope he does well in life and has already served as a good role model whether he wants to be one or not. Just wish he hadn't won. |

Sneaky Slow 8694 Herndon, VA, | Subject: RE: Tim Tebow = .... I don't really know what the connection is. Tebow won a national championship, Redick and Hansbrough have not. They're all guys who excelled in college? They're all white guys who excelled in college? They're all guys whose college schools have some shade of blue as one of the primary colors of his team? What's the connection, OP? Edited by newleaf 2009-01-09 12:52 PM |

I got it, they have or will graduate from college. Seriously, I to wonder how he will do in the pros. But, he is still a great person and college player. Edited by BamaDC 2009-01-09 1:26 PM |

Master 1585 Folsom (Sacramento), CA | Subject: RE: Tim Tebow = .... I 'm thinking that the connection is that they are all players that the media fawns over. All of them were/are great college players, but the media tries to elevate them even more. You could say the same thing about Brett Favre on the professional level. Whether or not this is because they are succesful white athletes is another discussion, but in my opinion, the media got a little carried a way with all of them. |

Champion 5868 Urbandale, IA | Subject: RE: Tim Tebow = .... While I do admire the things that Mr. Tebow has done through his college career that he didn't necessarily "have to do" and it does seem, from the outside in, that he has a great attitude and a heck of a personality, I am very tired of being clubbed over the head with his "goodness" by ESPN et al. I forgive hearing about it again during the game last night, because I assume that, like the Super Bowl, some of the folks watching don't pay attention to the college football world like some of us seem to. In reality, however, the folks that watch ESPN are people that know who Tim Tebow is and know what he has accomplished. I think this is a general fault that I have with ESPN. Brett Favre is another good example of this. Have you noted the Ed Reed love of late? Yesterday, I was driving home from work. listening to ESPN radio, and a college football analyst said that Florida would win last night because "Tim Tebow is the best college football player of all time." That is a huge - and I think incorrect - statement. It seems like ESPN tends to get caught up in the moment. Now, I could sit here and list, maybe 100 players that were great in college, that for one reason or another, didn't have a great - even good, Pro career. That doesn't take anything away from their collegiate accomplishments, however. Some were injured (Grant Hill), some just didn't pan out (Archie Griffin), some were killed (Nile Kinnick). Good lord, lay off of the guy. In the same breath, however, someone needs to grab the reigns on these "expert analysts" and take away the energy drinks and the love potion #9. |

Expert 1158 Chicagoland | Subject: RE: Tim Tebow = .... I am not a big fan of UF or Urban Meyer but I kinda like Tebow as a player. He is a rough and tumble player and whether that translates into a Pro Bowler will be an interesting study. On a side note, It did seem like this year's crop of Bowl TV Analysts were pretty bad or more like pretty partisan. Everybody had a favorite and they stuck to it. So to buck the trend, I vote for Utah as the #1 team in the US! |

Master 1585 Folsom (Sacramento), CA | Subject: RE: Tim Tebow = .... Reddick won the Rupp Player of the Year award, so I wouldnt say that he never won anything. Hansborough will be drafted, and will prolly be a low bench guy most of his career. Hustle players can only go so far in the pros. I just don't see Tebow having sucess in the pros. His quarterback game is dependent on his power running and the first time he tries to run over a pro safety, he is going to find out that doesnt work. They may try to switch him to another position, but I dont see him with the skills for anything else. I know some people think he could be a hybrid/multi position player, but we all so how well "Slash" did. |

IMO and it's based on about 25 years of watching College Football I believe Tebow is the greatest college player I've seen. He is an absolute monster and his ability to take over a game that involves athletes of the caliber he plays against and with is absolutely stunning. I was trying to think back to some guys who should/would be in the conversation. I will say Hugh Green was the greatest defensive player I've seen. On offense you have Vince Young in recent years who was just an incredible college player. Other guys who come to mind are Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson and Earl Campbell (what a best he was). I wasn't sure how good Tebow really was but last night clinched it. Minimum top 6 of all time for me and if he comes back will probably be #1. |

Elite 2733 Venture Industries, | Subject: RE: Tim Tebow = .... triguynewbie - 2009-01-09 2:30 PM Brock Samson - 2009-01-09 1:51 PM More like Charlie Ward. Charlie Ward chose a career as a Professional Basketball player over the NFL so how is he like Tebow? The link is that both were/are OUTSTANDING college QB's. The knock on Charlie was that no one thought he could play in the NFL, he was undrafted. Now a lot went into that, teams didn't know if he would play in the NFL or play in the NBA. Charlie also said that he wanted to be a 1st round pick. So teams didn't want to waste a 1st round pick on him, nor a later round pick if he was going to jump to the NBA. The link was...two outstanding college football players whose pro prospects were/are questioned. I think the choice of the NBA was forced on him. What I was getting at was Ward was "my guy" as an FSU fan. He won every major award available for an offensive player. I believe he still holds the record as the most decorated college football player. (Heisman, Unitas, James E. Sullivan, Walter Camp, Maxwell and Davey O'Brien awards all in the same year) and yet there were questions about how "great" he was because he didn't succeed in the NFL. |
