Anyone catch Joaquin Phoenix's "interview" with David Letterman last night? If not. link here:

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/towerticker/2009/02/joaquin-phoenixs-letterman-interview-flames-out.html

What a train wreck. I hope this is some kind of a joke and he's going to come out April 1st and say April Fools.

Dave is maybe not the best interviewer in the business but come on Leaf, you've gotta give him something to work with.

I will not watch this movie.

kmill23 - 2009-02-12 2:42 PM SO hilarious.  Hip-hop?  Really?  I'd love to see him perform on Letterman.  Now that would be priceless.

As Lettman said-that dosen't seem likely.

No way. It's an act. He was WAY too lucid to be drugged or drunk. And at the end he even broke into a smile when Dave said `Sorry you couldn't be here tonight.' He did a good job of maintaining, though. Funny stuff. I love Letterman.

I saw it, my first thought was WTF!  Then after watching for a while my second thought was Andy Kaufman...way to over the top to be anything but Phoenix doing his best Kaufman...I think the joke is on us, the viewer.

Either that or the guy is totally F-ing nuts.

I've been told by a source that the whole thing is a hoax. Apparently, Casey Affleck (Ben's brother and Joaquin's brother-in-law) is doing a "mockumentary" on JP's transformation from Oscar Winner to hip-hop recording artist.

No proof, but that makes a lot of sense to me.

You don't just retire from making Oscar-caliber movies when you're 30-something, I don't care how rich or famous you are. You capitalize on your power to do F'ed up stuff like this, which will bring you more money and fame.

Or will drop like a lead balloon.  With the cat out of the bag, so to speak, it loses some of its intrigue.  I'm on board that it's a spoof, although that's a pretty wacky family all around (from what I've read) so who knows.....

x2..  I"ve heard this also.. something along the likes of "Borat"  where the joke is really on us, how people react, and the media itself for making a big deal out of celebrities

If I recall my '90s trivia, Garth Brooks did the same thing with that Chris Somethingorother stunt and it basically ended his reign.

PennState - 2009-02-12 3:57 PM I thought it was a hoax from the start. He seemed to be a combo of totally out of it and yet with it at the end. Jokes on the audience and Dave

x2.

Now, I remember the Farrah interview. THAT was hilarious. Joaquin, not so much.

I think you guys are mixing up your music Genres.  He is reportedly going to be doing R&B which by its original stylings is nothing like Hip Hop.  I don't think we will be seeing him rap at all.  And Tony was right.  Garth Brooks album as his alter ego Chris Gains failed miserably.  Although it was mainly because the movie got cancelled so nobody really understood it.
