What do you recommend?  These will be used for both training and racing. LBS carries bontrager and michelin, but am willing to order online if I need to.

Continental GP's.

I don't care what the rolling resistance weenies say, these are some of the best tires out there for wear, puncture and feel.

Thanks, any specific model of GP. There appears to be quite a few.

GP 4000 or the Michelin Pro Race 3.  IMO Conti's last longer than Micehlin tires though.

I'm a Vittoria Rubino Pro 2 fan.  Got them on both sets of wheels.

Yes on this.  All I ride is Conti GP 4,000.

No idea how they will hold up for training, but you should consider the Bontrager Race X Lite Pro for racing.  Because, unlike Rick, I care less how the tire feels and more on how fast it allows me to go.

But the GP 4000S is a good tire, as is the Michelin Pro Race3.

Pro Race 3 from probikekit.com.

Probably half the price you'd pay at the LBS. I ordered 4 and got them in less than a week.

So how much more than 5,000+ miles are you getting from the gp4000s? 'Cause that's what i got out of my last two sets of michelins.

Anyone running Pro Race 2 tires? How do they compare to the 3? I found some in a bargain bin a few months ago so they're brand new and ready to go. I have Pro Race 3 on the wheels now.

Any opinions of the 2 over the 3 or vice-versa?

My experience is mostly on the P2Rs, over 5,000 miles on two sets and no flats until I wore all of the tread off of them. Actually I've heard of more problems with the P3Rs than I ever heard with the P2Rs.

Thanks Bear. Question for you. 70.3 race coming up and you have a new set of PR3 and new set of PR2. Which do you use for the race?

I always heard good things about P3R so I went and got a set to do what you're talking about.
Never had a ride where I did not have a flat. Every time I went out I flatted.

I run GP4000 now and have for the better part of a year. I sold off my P3R and will not buy another set.

I have been riding Michellin Pro Race 3's the past year.  I have gone away from them.  I have had more flats in the past year than the seven prior, coincidence I dont think so.  The Continintal GP4000 are supposed to be very good, albeit still lightweight tire.

So I don't leave everyone hanging, I am going with the Conti GP4000's.  The rodes I ride have lots of debris and based on everyone's feedback, I think they will hold up the best to punctures.  Thats for all input!

If puncture resistance is your primary concern you'd be better off with the Conti UltraGatorskins or the Specialized Armadillos, though the GP4000s will give you a balance of puncture reistance and performance.

The GF and I put Continental gatorskins on our bikes the first year we had them due to flat issues. (and me destroying the oem tires on our trainer).

My question is how much of a speed differance is there between some of the tires discussed here in this thread and the gatorskins we use now?

Thanks in advance for any opinions

Wow, I was just thinking this too after reading this thread.  I was going to buy a couple gatorskins, but now this 4000 talk has me reconsidering.  Thoughts on comparisons between the two anyone?
