Subject: Good eating in Vegas (Close to the strip)?
Looking for some dining recommendations for my trip to Vegas this weekend.  Leaving on Friday, coming back on Monday, so have about 8 meals to eat on the town.  Looking for some good places to eat that are on or close to the strip, so that we can walk there (staying at the Trump hotel).  I read that the restaurant in the Trump hotel, DJT, used to be pretty good but has gone downhill.  I have also eaten at the Mesa Grill several times, but it looks like their menu is the same as it was last time I was there (which surprises me, since it's been 3 years).

So, what's CoJ got for me?

Depends on what kind of food you want, and what kind of price point you want. Can you give us more info?

The best meal I ever had was at CraftSteak in the MGM Grand.

A great place that’s close to the strip but not in a casino is Battista’s. It’s an old-school Italian joint that dates back to the Rat-Pack days. It has terrific, traditional red-sauce Italian dishes and a great atmosphere. It’s only a block or so from the Strip, behind Bally’s, I think. And price wise, it's very reasonable.

What are you looking for and how much do you want to spend?

Seriously, if you go to any nice place in a casino, you are going to get good food...

If you are looking for a short cab ride away, go to Hash House a-go-go on Sahara.  It's got "kicked up country food" and has been featured multiple times on Food TV.

Vitner Grill on Charleston by the Red Rocks Casino is great, but a longer cab ride from the strip.

Top of the World at the top of the strat is one of our faves.  Great food, better view, but it's at the strat...

Craftsteak at MGM
Mix at Mandalay bay

Serously, too many to mention unless you limit the choices.

If you like a steak house, I highly recommend gallager's in NY, NY.

What specifically do you want? Steak? Seafood? Just about every top chef has a restaurant in Vegas now.

Whoooooo you guys are FAST!

*EDIT*

STRIPSTEAK at Mandalay Bay is good - cool looking place too.

And The Palm (NYC Steakhouse) at Caesar's Palace is always a favorite of mine.

If you're into seafood, the seafood buffet at the Rio is pretty good and reasonably priced. I've been to most of the high end places in Vegas with business, but prefer the buffets at the Rio and Bellagio if I'm the one paying.

Thanks for all the recommendations!  I think I have enough here to fill out lunch and dinner for a few days, especially since I can eat steak at every meal and be happy!

If you are going to do a buffet...

The Paris buffet for breakfast is OUTSTANDING to me...

For lunch and dinner, we like to hit up the buffet at planet hollywood ot the Rio (world buffet, not the seafood one).

For a good buffet and cheaper price, Dishes at TI is good.

Have you ever done a Brazillian Seakhouse?  It's all you can eat meat, basically...  Samba at Mirage is good.

A short cab ride to Town Square (south of the strip on Vegas Blvd.) has lots of cheaper stuff (Brio's, Yardhouse, Blue Martini) and a great outdoor shopping experience.  It's the hot spot of locals these days.

I like Bouchon. Not the cheapest joint, but quality French food in a bistro-esque setting.

Go to the Bellagio Buffet for late breakfast.  It changes to lunch at 11:30.  They don't boot you, you just get more choices.

RAO's in Caesars is unbelievably good and expensive.

I like the Steakhouse in the Bellagio as well.

You guys eat when you go to Vegas??  I tried to eat, but didn't have much success (hangover, wake up, start drinking again, repeat)!

But I do know that 190 Octane at Fat Tuesday's will treat you right! (36 oz of course w/the extra shot).

The only time I was in Vegas, I ate at David Burke (decent, not great), Pinot Brassire (good escargot), Canaletto (all I can remember is good brandy...), Dos Caminos (pretty good).  I don't remember much else, and I didn't pay for any of it.

I already mentioned Hash House a Go Go, and I have eaten at Hot n Juicy Crawfish - AMAZING (on West Sahara).

Skip the Nascar Cafe.  It was only featured because it had a big burrito.  Other than that, there is better ways to spend you money on food.  You have to make each meal count when traveling!  Nothing worse while traveling that to waste a meal on something average/bad.

Thanks again for all the recommendations.  So, here's the food itinerary (which might be the most important part of the trip, if you ask me) so far:

Fri Dinner - Batista's
Sat Brunch - Hash House a Go Go
Sat Dinner - Top of the World
Sun Brunch - TBD
Sun Dinner - CraftSteak

Now I have to decide how much time I need to spend in the hotel gym each day to earn the food. Tongue out

Sound really good to me!

I want a review when you are done.  It's always nice to hear what others think of my favorite places.

Another good one is Maggiano's... it is an Italian restaurant.  Good food, no over the top prices.  Big fan of the stuffed mushroom apps.
http://www.maggianos.com/

Another good one is a Brazilian steak house, not on the strip though and its name is escaping me.  Standard Brazilian eatery though... meat on a stick, a little spendy.  Last time I was there my rough description to a cab driver got me to the right restaurant in spite of my forgetting the name of the place... like right now.  Otherwise lots of good food all over.

Texas de Brazil - Town Square, just south of the strip.
