Subject: RE: father in law in ICU :(thank you for your reply, jim. i am so sorry to hear about your dad. i reall hope that my fil makes it, but its so touch and go. he tends to downplay everything, because he doesn't want his boys to worry. a test will be 'routine and no big deal' and then comes back with results worse than we were ready for. the surgery was supposed to be to avoid chemo, but he ended up with more lung taken out, and lymph, and still has to do chemo, and maybe radiation. there was just supposed to be one spot on one lung, but now they see spots on the other lung too. its such a roller coaster. since the cancer was in the lymph, that just makes me so scared that they are going to find more (and i don't know if his doctors are really looking - my dad is a pulmonary doctor, so he's had some strong opinions about the choices my fil's docs have made ).
i actually signed up with team lung before my fil was even diagnosed. my dad has been very involved in getting duluth and other cities in minnesota to become smoke free. i signed up to honor all the work he has done, and in rememberance of my grandfather, who died of lung cancer (after years of pack a day smoking, AND working with asbestos! ). it was just a couple months after starting my team lung fund raising that my fil was diagnosed. put all of it into a whole different light. i just got a whole stack of envelopes from team lung and am going to send out a whole slew of letters this weekend. in a situation where we feel like there is nothing we can do, having the team lung fundraising has been a solace.
again, i am so sorry for your loss. thanks again for your post. |
