Pre-race routine:

My Whole race report will be in this section.
Ok, so first off the race was cancelled!
So here is the report. I did run a 10k and PR'd in the rain.
So I got to Kansas city on Friday at about noon. It was pretty hot but very humid. We set up our camper right smack dab across the lake from the swim start and anouncers. We were less than 100 yards from the other side. It was a very cool spot. So I got ride the run course real quick and it is very up and down and windy, back and forth. Get back and we eat some sandwiches. We then go back into Kansas City to the race expo and packet pick-up. It is a long way from the race sight and it is rush hour. Well we find the hotel and barely make it to the meeting. Triathletes all over the place with $6000. bikes and disc wheels. I had my $1200 Giant and was ready to put some people to shame. Any way we leave and head back to the camp site. It gets later and we cook some pasta with chicken and pull the kids out of the lake because it is looking like rain. Well it does. So I get to bed and get a pretty good night sleep.
Next morning I wake up to a slight rain. Eat my breakfast of apple sauce, boost drink, pancakes, coffee. Oh yeah, the night before we checked bikes in and they kept the bikes over night. Most people covered their bikes with plastic bags, I did not. So I hear the announcer wakes every one up and they postpone the start by an 1/2 hour due to rain and lightning. IT is dumping rain at this point and I can't see across the lake. I see people running around though. So I go back in the dry camper and drink some coffee. I lay down for a while too. Then They make another announcement that the race is delayed another 1/2 hour. So more relaxing. Finally they say that the swim is canclled and it will be a bike run. Good for me I am not a swimmer. Go over and get ready. They give us quick details on the time trail start and off we go. Oops, they just delayed it again for another hour this time. As I am soaking wet now, I jog back over to the camper and dry off. Then they make the dreaded announcement, RACE HAS BEEN CANCELLED! First time in the history of age group nationals, just my luck. So then they say they will have a 10 k fun run, meaning this did not qualify anyone for the world championshiips. I still don't know how they will figure out who goes to Hawaii and who stays home. Oh well, I will be staying home. So we get the 10k under way. Some are wearing wetsuits, and bike helmets during the run others are running hard. I decided to run hard. First mile 5:38, wow I'm not even breathing that hard. Nice to run at sealevel. Mile 3 17:45. New 5k PR. mile 5 31:13, cool. The length was actually 6.3 from what the race director said. I finish in 39:40. Nice new PR.
They still had the BBQ afterwards which was awesome. Burgers fruit salad, pasta salad, chips, gatorade, gatorade bars, beer, Gatorade towels, (I took 5 or 6 they had a bunch still laying out after everyone was gone.) Some very wet cold people.
Thank god I was camping. They parked everyone in a field next to the race and of course it was super muddy. They had to call in tow trucks and tractors to get people out. Some people were there 3 hours before they could get out, iit was a mess and still raining. People were covered from head to toe in mud triing to push people out. So we get back to the camper and decide to go to Kansas and stay in a hotel on the way to Denver if the rain lets up. It did at noon so we left at 2:30. It's not ovver yet. We hit massive rains at mile 40 for about 2 hours. We went 160 miles in 3 and 1/2 hours. So we checked into a hotel in Abilene, sit in the hot tub and go get so mexican food. We order these jumbo Margs that were 44 oZ. yummy. We go to bed and wake up at 6 and leave at 7. We arrive back in Denver at 12:30.
So the whole thing kind of sucked. I had fun on the run and met some nice people. I guess there is always next year to try again.
That's all.

I only dream about sub 40:00 10K's. I have to say that I am incredibly jealous about the whole camper thing. Great idea. I didn't do the fun run. I had run out of mental toughness for anymore fun by the time they canceled the race.

Oh that SOOOOOO sucks! I was wondering what the weather would be there since it was so crappy here in Denver. But hey, congrats on your 10K PR! At least that's something! Incredible time, too.

Ok, I'm going to go run my 10 miles now. Can you tell I'm procrastinating??

10K PR, 44 oz margs and 5-6 Gatorade towels.  Sounds like a winner weekend to me!

Bummer about the race, but sounds like you had a great time regardless!

Was that your camper I saw stuck in the mud or someone else's.  We had such a blast pushing those cars out of the muck!  Sorry I didn't get to meet you.  Doesn't sound like you went to the awards dinner and party.  You missed a great time!

Sorry to hear about the race (or lack thereof).  But at least you were able to turn lemons into, well, margaritas!

Great job on the run!

I'd say it's pretty impressive that you were able to maintain enough focus through that point to still PR in the 10K. I think most would have phoned it in instead. Nice work!

Glad you were able to salvage the weekend with a 10k PR!! That's such a bummer that they cancelled the race after so many of you guys had put in so much hard training to put in a good perfoemance there.  Guess no one can control the weather

The margs and hot tub sound like a nice alternative though!
