Subject: Busty newbie looking for help!!

I am new to tri - all three sports!  I started running to loose baby weight, and it kind of spiraled out of control from there...110 lbs later I am training for my first sprint tri on memorial day weekend.  I have fallen in love with running and biking and learning to tolerate swimming!

The only real problem that I am dealing with is how to control the girls!  It seems that no matter how much weight I loose, I can not loose boob (I know I have just annoyed some, and I am sorry)!  I am currently a 34DD and wear a (self) modified cotton support bra under a compression sport bra top and that has been working really well for the bike and run.  It occurs to me that this solution is not really going to work for the event, I mean it isn't like I can change out of a swimsuit into my multiple undergarments and I don't think my current solution will work for the swim!

I can't imagine that I am the only person to deal with this issue in the history of tri, so I am searching for some/any/all the advice I can get on the subject!!!

Moving COmfort makes great sports bras for larger chests.  I had the same problem when I was nursing my twins and loved Moving Comfort bras.

I have heard of people wearing their sports bras under their swimsuit and just putting shorts on over the suit for bike and run.  I don't know how the cotton part of your sports bra would work when wet, but make sure to try any changes you make before race day.

A triathlon suit  which is worn for the whole race instead of a swim suit may be a good solution for your problem.  Also there is a great line of sports bras called Moving Comfort for us larger chested gals. They are fully adjustable in both the strap and the back so you can get the fit you need, without extra layers.  I am doing my first triathlon also in May, and in swim training what I have found works the best is to wear the sports bra under a zoot triathlon suit. Since the  zoot suit is worn for all 3 events, I don't need to try and change after the swim, just transition to the bike.  Hope this helps some, congratulations on the weight loss, what a great accomplishment.

When someone makes a "claim" like that, someone will invariably post a "Worthless without pics" comment...

I won't be the one to say it, though...

I'm the same size as you.  I am in love with CW-X sports bras.  They work fantastic and I don't need to wear 2 like I used to.  I wear them under a tri top.  I prefer 2 pieces, tri top and shorts with a sports bra.  I don't want to have strip a tri suit off in a portapotty and because I'm a large on top and a small on bottom a onepiece won't fit somewhere.  Good luck and congrats on the weight loss.  Thats AWESOME.  Welcome to BT

My wife is normally a C to a D. Now she's pregnant, and she's a DD. She's done 12 marathons, 8 half IMs, and 2 IMs, so I feel like she's got some "cred."

She LOVES the Enell bra. I (well more like WE) reviewed it last year:

http://iwannagetphysical.blogspot.com/2010/02/friday-funny-74-does-...

She swears by them and tells all of her busty friends about them. She's even been known to stop strangers who visibly "need a little help" and tell them about the Enell.

Same situation...

Moving Comfort Fiona is my favorite, and it dries well after the swim.
The Helena is comfy for bike rides, but wouldn't use it for running.

Like earlier post... shorts, tri top, and sports bra.

HAVE FUN!!!

Is it an open water swim?  If you are using a wetsuit you should be able to dress the girls appropriately and not have to change for the bike/run.

I'm not busty, but I'll be wearing a tri suit at my first race in May.  It's very supportive.  I like the idea of being fully dressed from start to finish and not having to bother with anything but socks and shoes.

As others have mentioned, Moving Comfort makes great sports bras.

For the D/DD woman, the Fiona is ideal for cycling and running; it's only drawback is that it is not racerback and most tri suits/tops are racerbacks. If you want a racer back, you could try the Juno though you have to be a contortionist to get it off/on. It will keep you locked in place but it will feel like you're locked in place. Otherwise, stick with the Fiona. Very comfortable and supportive.

Moving Comfort has a new racer back, like the Juno, that is supposed to be easier to get in/out of than the Juno and more comfortable but I can't remember the name of it. I don't see it on their website, so it might not have released yet. Call your local running store and ask them about it. Or, call Moving Comfort and ask them.

I've tried the Enell. I couldn't breathe in it and I kind of like to breathe when I'm swimming and breathe deeply on the run. But check it out yourself; YMMV.

Another Fiona fan. Keep your eyes open and you can find them on sale. I found one at a local store for $30 a couple of weeks ago.

Also recommended for best first post ever.   We really should have a sticky for that.

X2 on CWX! They are the only sports bras I wear. You can find them on sale pretty often. Try Sierra trading post. I just bought two for $20 each instead of the usual $56 price tag. Also, I might go with a tri top and shorts to help keep the ladies in check and be comfortable.

Titlenine.com has some good bras. they rate the bras on barbells, so the more barbells, the more support. I also just wear a sports bra under my swimsuit.

Another vote for Moving Comfort--had good luck with Fiona and Maya. (I range from a 34D when skinny to a 38DDD and beyond when not so skinny).

Surprisingly, for a long time Champion had a good one in C/D which, if I got with a big enough band, worked great.

Enell and CW-X did not work for me, but again, everyone's individual.

My wife's an F.  She swears by the Moving Comfort Fiona's too.  We've even found them on clearance for $15

We've found the champion ones online, but because they don't list big enough, she's a try on in the store kinda girl, and no place around here stocks them.

FYI that Fiona bra gave me some NASTY chafing on long runs.  I was not a fan.  I'm "only" a C, but that to me makes it more worrisome.

I love the Fiona, but I did have serious chafing once they get old.  If the band starts to pill (get little fuzzy lumps), it's time to invest in a new one.  I also always body glide.  Otherwise no issues!  The Fiona has been great from 5k to IM.

I get some chafing from the Moving Comfort Calli...but it's the most supportive sports bra I've found, so I just slather a ton of body glide on and that will usually keep me comfortable.

I will have to check out some of these others that you've all suggested...the Juno looks good.
