After putting on my favorite swim suit tonight before my swim I noticed the back and bottom was giving in. I have lost 2 swim suits in the past 7 months. How many have ya'll lost?? I am just sad...it was my FAVORITE suit! Sniff, sniff!

A regular nylon/lycra suit lasts me less than a month.  I got really sick of going through two suits per month so I finally bought some polyester ones.  They are still only a few weeks old so I don't know if they will last longer.  But I can let you know in a little bit

Seriously, polyester is SUPPOSED to last longer...

My 9 year old son is a competitive swimmer (and spends a WHOLE lot more time in the pool than I do!) and goes through lycra suits in a matter of 6-8 weeks.  Polyester does last longer but he's had some skin reactions...I should be so lucky to swim so much that my suits wear out that quickly!

Buy polyeseter. They're a little more expensive, but well worth it. I bought my current suit last fall and I've put more then 500,000 yards in it. My previous suit was over 2 years old and the only reason I replaced it is because I left it at the pool and it was never turned in.

For a men's suit the price diff is $3-$5 over a comparable lycra suit. I've used speedo and tyr.

My wife finally bought a new suit this year because her old one had a hole in the knee.

Go to H20Wear.com and get a suit there-they are a bit expensive, but made with chloroguard. I bought three suits there FIVE years ago and one just got a hole on a seam. The styles are a bit plain, but boy do they last!

I've had my Keifer suit for over a year and there doesn't seem to be any signs of wear and tear that I can see (but then again, I can't really see the back ).  I just got the "grab-bag" suit in a racer-back style.

It's not the prettiest suit, but when I'm in the water, you can't really see my suit anyway.  And I don't make it a habit of standing around on the deck.  It ain't a fashion show, it's a workout.

Good question! Just this morning, I noticed that my speedo was starting to thin in spots. It's maybe 8 months old.

I bought a Lands End suit that was supposed to be made to stand up against chlorine....but one day it just fell apart and sadly I didn't notice until after I was done swimming. My sister swears by polyster suits...she teaches water aerobics and is in and out of the pool 8-10 times a week.

I like how Lands End suits fit me, but if they are going to last 2 months, I'm not buying them...but they did take it back...unconditional guarentee.

I can usually get a lycra suit to last 3 months, swimming 2-3 times a week. The thing that kills me on those is that you don't get any warning on them wearing out.  One day it's fine, the next time you put in on, you wonder if it will fall apart during the workout.

I always give mine a rinse in the shower after each swim, toss it in the spinny drying thing and throw it in my bag until next time.  I don't take great care of them.

Giving it a rinse is fine, but DON'T toss them in the spin-dry thing.  It's really hard on your suit and will cause it to wear out faster.  Rinse it, squeeze it dry, and then hang it up somewhere when you get home to let it dry out the rest of the way.

My kids swim so I buy suits in volume. You can always get another mile out of used suits by double suiting. MIght not be the best fashion statement in the pool but better than the see-through alternative.

i wear 2-3 suits ata time, usually just 2, cas they are see through in a matter of a few weeks. if you double/triple them up youll get a bit more use out of them. put the oldest suit on top and it wears ok as a drag suit so to speak, the newer suit on the bottom.

Okay, I've been wearing my fave suit forever... so is THAT why everyone at the pool is always staring at me? It's navy colored -- is my Day-Glo white skin shining through somewhere?

And I thought they were all just impressed with my athletic prowess. Sigh!

Not long enough   I usually swim in my tri suits now and they seem to hold up better than a swim suit

I go through one swim suit every six months. I always soak mine in Woolite after swimming for a few minutes and that has seemed to help them last longer.

Maybe I'm a swimsuit snob, but I'll never get this. There are a couple girls that do this at my masters class. I just don't understand. Isn't it uncomfortable? My one suit has my body in a death grip, another one would be awful. I can't wait for my current suit to wear out so I can get a new one (I'm sick of this one and don't care for the style at all). Of course, I went the poly route, so I've got a while to wait.

The uglier they are, the longer they last. It must be a variant on Murphy's Law. I shop sales and buy the chepest suits I can get away with (OK, they must have straps, and no gee-gaws hanging off 'em) The ugly baby-blue cutesie one with a teeny bow lasted a long, long, long time.

I swim 4 times per week and am on suit number 6 for the year. Two of which were reversible, so were supposed to last a bit longer, and they did.... a little bit longer. Its not just about whether its see through, they get saggy and see through.

Not sure how this is, but I am wearing the same suit that I wore to race in 1993!!!! Mind you it got buried for awhile, and I have been wearing it about 2x/week, but it still useable...then again, maybe the entire pool is seeing my @ss and I don't even know it!

Lycra suits don't last long at all. About a month maybe.

My first polyester suit lasted me 1.5 years. And I only had to retire it because the lining ripped, not because it was see-through.

These are my results when swimming 3-4 times per week in chlorine.

Ok, so where are we buying these good suits? I went looking last week and decided to stick with an ugly, granny suit from Walmart. It's a sad, sad day when I decide that I look better naked that in a swim suit. I'm a frustrated size 14 who has a lot of junk in the trunk. Any help?
