Swim
Comments: OMG- worst swim of my life. Get to the start and hang for a while before they call our wave. We get down and they are like, you have one minute so you better get in and get ready. I jump in, feel pretty good, position myself in the front on the outside. Make it about 150 yards ok and get kicked square in the face. Goggles completely off both eyes (reason for wearing 2 caps or my race would have been over)so I try to fix them. Now I am getting pounded from behind. Start to panic a little (this was a new experience for me and sure makes me feel for those that panic in OWS, scary!!!) and then realize that if I just can make it 50 yards left there is clear water out of traffic. Get the crap kicked out of me getting to over there .... sorry to the other swimmers who were like where the hell did this jackass come from. Get to clear water, take a minute or two to clear my head, clear my goggles and get them reset. Start swimming again but just can't find any rhythm until I round the 2nd buoy and then I finally relax and let it roll. Passed alot of people back once I got back into a rhythm. What would you do differently?: Plan the trip better to get a practice swim in before the race. Not take one to the face that early in the swim!! Not leave 5 to 7 minutes in the first part of the first race of the year!! Transition 1
Comments: This one was for Fatty..... Came out of the water #25, left #20. Bike
Comments: Decent bike split. Was a little stong on the power overall, but the hills were unexpected at the level they were at. Would have a been a great course to pre-ride, would have helped a lot with racing strategy. NP = 236 watts TSS= 126.7 IF= 1.013 3 scoop bottle of Heed on the bike + one complete bottle of water. What would you do differently?: Nothing, maybe back off a little on the big hill, but I didn't know it was that long until I made it through that switchback and saw the rest of it. Transition 2
Comments: Still have to wear socks, so that always costs me some time in T2. Someday I will be able to Oly without them. Sorry John. Came in #16, went out #18 What would you do differently?: Not be a sock pussy! Run
Comments: Still not a runner. Wanted to be closer to 8:15's to 8:00's on the run, but it was a little more rollie than I expected. I really started to feel the car ride down about mile 3, slowed way down at that point and even walked once or twice. One gel and some water at mile 3 when it started downhill. What would you do differently?: Not try to squeeze 4 days worth of activity into 2 days. Post race
Warm down: Was starving, so ate 2 runners bags of food. Hung with the group for a while and then went and showered and packed. Went back and watched all the HIM'ers finish and hung with everybody. What limited your ability to perform faster: First race of the year, train more! First OWS swim of the year, train more! First bike race of the year, train more! First running race of the year, train more! Oh, and stop getting older. Being the oldest group of the AG is not fun! Next year! It was supposed to be a training day, and it was! Event comments: Was a great weekend. Trip home sucked, but wore the compression all the way home and feel pretty good, except for some tight calves. Passed lots of REV3 folks on the way back north, at least my bike wasn't out in the rain the entire way. Great MG meeting race. Ready for next year. Last updated: 2010-11-09 12:00 AM

It was a whirlwind weekend. Was planning on driving part of the way down on Friday night after work, but family happened and I needed to be at home. So, I got up at 3:00 am on Saturday morning and drove the 600 miles to Knoxville. With the time zone change I got in around 12:30 pm. Hotel can't get me in until 3:00 pm, so I went and checked in at the race, wandered the expo, and worked on the bike in the parking garage. Got Suzy here bike, dropped of the bike at T1 (Had to ride back to the hotel to get my forgotten athlete wrist band .. needed that to drop off the bike. DOH!) got checked into the hotel, showered, and right out the door for the MG diner. Came back after dinner, got the nutrition mixed and other gear ready, and tried to calm down enough to sleep. Maybe got 6 good hours.
Got up, got ready, ate a powerbar and 1/2 cup of joe and headed to transition.
Really wanted to get in the water, but they would not let us in. So I set up and ran for a mile or so. Stretched a little, rechecked the gear and headed to the starting line to look for the other MG's and wish them luck.
