Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Right, as some of you know, I live a secret double (triple?) life as a sorority triathlete punk rock girl. Part of the punk rock part of my life includes something called Straightedge. Rather than go into a super long explaination about what Edge has meant in my life, here's the wikipedia entry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_edge. And no, it is not a gang nor are we violent...straightedge is a non-violent movement. Anywho, there's this band called Bane. While out running yesterday, I had a mix CD in my player, that had the Bane song "Superhero" on it. There's a part in the song where he screams, 'the difference between hard and impossible is miles wide"...and that really got to me yesterday. The entire song is about being free from poisons (more specifically cigarettes in this one), but here ya go kids. "Superhero" She rolls her eyes and lights another. "One day I'll quit these things they're killing me" She blows her brains right out her f***ing mouth "I just don't know how you do it" Well, there is nothing in me that you don't have deep within your f***ing self. Yes, the body is week but the mind is strong and it controls the body, you are not a slave, and I am not a superhero. The difference between hard and impossible is a thousand miles wide, but that's not what you want to hear. So you live a lifetime of regret instead of moments of uncomfort never knowing how great it feels to be free. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ah......Bane! Not a bad group at all. I'll have to Napster the song. One of my favorite "angry" training songs is Power Trip by Chaimara. I can't post the lyrics but it has a chorus of "I will not, fail again. I will not! F--K your power trip". Check out the video. X-Straight Edge-X. Yeah......know all about em'. The group that used to hang out at the club I ran were violent. They were Hardcore sXe kids. Not saying there's nothing wrong with that because they would only pick on the drunk and drugged and smokers. You're bringing back memories now. I remember how they used to use big black permanent markers and write 'X's all over the arms and the top of their hands. They were the only kids who would slam during shows, besides the Skins (my association). sXe has pretty much faded into a EMO culture around the midwest. I don't see many sXe kids anymore. Most are modified Emo / hatecore kids. Nice to know there's still a few of you around. |

![]() | ![]() I love angry tunes for working out hard. In "I get around" by the Beach Boys, when they say "the bad guys know us and they leave us alone."? That's so tough. Makes me just want to scream and push myself to the limit. What? Why's everyone looking at me like that?

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Limp Bizcuit's "Stuck" is a great angry song! My fiance knows that I need serious motivation for those long stationary bike workouts so he creates my playlists for me. He said, "Hey honey, about 30 minutes into your workout, there will be a Limp Bizcuit song that really reminds me of you." Well, thinking that it would be somewhat of a love song, I was really looking forward to it. Boy! Was I wrong. It is about a psycho chick that is greedy! Just the thought of him joking about that "psycho chick" label had me pedaling like crazy! When I got home last night, he said, "So, how was your workout? He He!

It makes me sick that is social acceptable to harass smokers. I’ve said it before and I will say it again. I loved how when I smoked I would have a person yelling at me talking about how I'm killing myself by smoking, at a McDonalds, when there is an obese family at the next able over eating a “super sized” meal. Couldn’t the same harassment be given to them? Oh wait, we don’t want them to feel bad. It makes me SICK that people think its cool to harass smokers. It ineffective and bothersome, it’s the same as those a-holes that knock on my door to “convert” me. I have sworn that the next person I see publicly harass a smoker, I will tell them off like I do every time I see that crap. To me it’s the same thing as throwing red paint on people wearing fur (makes people hate you, and they don’t listen). |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have alsways liked angry, dark music. Deftones has some twisted music, and taht totally "wall of sound" thing. My wife calls all that music "screamers" and while after she pointed that out, I also think that Chino, singer from deftones, does a pretty good job of screaming. I have a big valley that is about 3/8 of a mile up with a a vertex at the bottom. No flat. Put the Deftones, or RATM on and do repeats. People I know have seen me and ask what I am doing and after I tell them that I just go up and down the thing for an hour with coasting, they flat out think I am crazy. My secret? If you had what I have on my Ipod yelling at you, you would understand that you have no choice but to keep on going. The pain I inflict on myslef makes race day look easy in most cases. |

Just saying that I didn't disagree with the Straight Edge kids who were punching the smokes out of peoples mouths. Same as you would probably not mind seeing a person punched who was spraying people in a crowd with a poisonous gas. (sorry about the hijack Phoenix) |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For the record, this Straightedger has never punched anyone for smoking. Like I said, straightedge is a non-violent movement! Pat (superfuzz) went to see Ian MacKaye speak last night in Pittsburgh (of Minor Threat and Fugazi fame)...I'm so jealous I could have wet myself, but anywho, pat told me that Ian was really ashamed at how people had taken a song he wrote about his life to be this violent thing when it is supposed to be really posi. Don't enjoy it, and I had to make it abundantly clear last night to my flatmates (HI, what part of "no smoking in common room" is not clear...oh sh#t is the couch on fire?!) grr. I don't mind the drink being around really. I don't even mind if they smoke in their rooms (again, against uni policy), but when they are smoking POT and cigs in the COMMON KITCHEN area while I'm trying to make my dinner...that sucks. It makes me uncomfortable in a place that I should feel welcome and be able to eat my dinner in. And no tattoo yet, but I've got one designed. Just waiting to hit the lotto. Although, I thought about letting the MDot be my first, but I might be waiting a long time!!! |

![]() | ![]() Since this is a "music" thread I'll put this post here. My online radio station just brightened my morning by pumping out that classic 80's tune - the theme song from Magnum P.I. Ha! I love it. Someday if I ever go to Kona I'm renting a Ferrari to drive around the island. Hawaiian shirt and short khaki shorts here I come! |

People always ask me about my first tattoo and there is no interesting story. At least not interesting to the average joe. Back in the mid 90's I provided security for Ian MacKaye at a local event. I got to hang out with him and some of the Fugazi bunch back stage. I didn't talk sXe stuff with him because its not my thing. I never did like Fugazi near as much as Minor Threat.

COURT JESTER![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Angry motivational mosic is good for short bursts of energy for me. Back in the days of college and lifting heavy weights...before heading to the gym it was stuff like BODY COUNT songs like "Cop Killer" and "KKK B!tch" (I liked Ice-T back in the day) or "Mother" by Danzig OR even some rip roaring county songs for a lift (yes they do exist). |

That song was born out of the time around the Rodney King deal and police brutality on black people. The song NEVER tells anyone to go kill anyone. It's a song about attitude....and attitude a lot of people might have if they were beat down and in that situation. So, once again, PIPE DOWN!!!....please. And, back in the day of heavy weight training (leg pressing 1000lbs), YEAH, it was a great ATTITUDE song to get the adrenaline flowing. Edited by tupuppy 2006-03-08 9:27 AM |

Nothing more impressive than a 1000lb leg pressing, suburban white-boy connecting to the urban, police oppressed Black people and their music. You must know the lyrics by heart, but I'll post just a snippit for the people who haven't.... "Cop killer, better you than me. I'm a cop killer, f--k police brutality! Cop killer, I know your family's grieving, F--k 'em Cop killer, but tonight we get even, ha ha ha ha, yeah! " Brilliant! (sorry again for the hijack Pheonix) |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Are we asking about favorite angry/motivational songs?!?!?!? If so, anytime I hear "BYOB" or "Chop Suey" I want to jump up and run around or something. "Casualties of War" by Erik B. and Rakim makes me want to break things (like my crank arms) as well. I like SOD so much because they will be humming along all melancholy and then suddenly they give you a slap in the face and crank it up seemingly out of nowhere. The unexpectedness is what I like so much, and the energy. |
