Which is better to use?

Normal cap or visor for the run?

What is the difference?

Thanks heaps!

Run with both. See which works best for you in various temp situations.

LOL we live in the tropics, every race/training session is like 80 plus.

I always sweat heaps...constantly using my shirt to wipe away the sweat...from the face.

I'm bald...gotta use a cap to avoid the sun burn or the silly look of a visor and bald head

I wear a hat. I've burned on top the head before and it royally sucks!

I have thick hair, so I prefer a visor.  In particular the Headsweats Supervisor because it has a great elastic band and nice terry cloth liner.  But honestly, I've used a bunch of different running hats and visors.

I have a lot of black hair and my head gets really hot in the sun. For that reason (and to keep my sweaty bangs out of my face) I wear a white cap. I'm wearing it in my profile pic. It's a Nike dry quick sort of thing.

I've always preferred a cap to cover my head from intense sun.  It seems to reduce the radiant heat over a visor.  During really hot races I've found additional comfort by pouring water over my cap and that seems to dissipate heat

Another reason I like the visor - I can put the cup of water directly on my head!  It's awesome.

+1 for the visor! I wear a cap if it's in the low 50s where I live. =)

Or my favorite is the icy cold wet sponge in the cap--feels great.

If you're running where it is warm and aren't bald, visor.

In a race, as I think someone said, a hat can be useful for holding ice or cold sponges.

I like when I get my headsweats visor so filled with sweat it drips off the brim like rain.  I like that.

hat, sunburned scalp is no fun.  I even have to wear a rag under my helmet.  Last summer I had stripes

I look goofy in a visor, so it's a hat for me

I actually feel like a thin, light colored hat made of wicking fabric helps keep my head a bit cooler once it gets wet (either from sweat or from purposely dumping water over my head) via evaporative cooling. YMMV.....

I'm a visor guy most of the time. Heat seems to dissipate better without anything in the way, and the water on the head trick helps as well. If it gets a bit cooler, I may go to the hat. I've tried a few different visors and ended up with the $2 Walmart visor. I may have to go to the Headsweats next, since I have read so much about it, but the Walmart one refuses to die.

Visor when it's really hot. Your head is a great source for heat to escape. However, some of the cap crowd makes some good points re: dark hair and burned scalp. If my hair's not parted, my head doesn't burn, and it's blonde so it doesn't absorb much heat.

Curious where you live. I also live in the tropics and I use both; doesn't seem to make much difference in comfort levels. I have a white visor and a blue running cap of some light, quick-drying material (wearing in avatar at finish of an Oly with temps in the mid 90's). I have dark hair so probably absorb just as much heat with the visor as with the cap. I tend to train with the visor and race with the cap--it's a bit less likely to blow off--races usually involve some oceanside running and it can be breezy. The sponge in the cap trick is great as is the sponge or ice cube in the tri-top or jog-bra. Don't know if that works for guys, though!
