Not sure if I'm doing it or not. Part of me wants to try Woodstock the following weekend.

I'm doin both also.  Victoria and Woodstock!  It will be an interesting taper week before Woodstock, but can't miss Victoria's Duathlon!

Is there something special going on with this event?  I've heard a lot of people who are going to do this....they're are not necessarily multi sport athletes, but it just seems to be the talk around town that people are gonna try this duathlon!

Why not?  If you've got some bigger volume weeks for a longer race behind you, but want to do well at the Sprint, then there's nothing wrong with backing off the volume or intensity for a few days to perform well.

fixed that for ya. regardless of distance (or elitism), the whole point of training is progressive overload. resting before any event to reduce the fatigue you're carrying is never a bad idea if you want to perform your best.

triathlon is hot right now, but this doesn't require people to learn how to swim. pretty sure that's about it.

i won't be racing victoria's (enjoy your hill repeats!) but i'll see some of you at woodstock for the sunday modified sprint Smile

cheers!

I'm tempted to do this race because I often hear that a Du is harder than a Tri of equivalent distance. That, and I have a bet with a buddy about showing up & racing in a speedo - to see which one of us has the stones to actually do it (I know tops are req'd).

True - but many people will train through a "C" race if it is in the middle of their plan for an "A" race.

If you want to race in a speedo and short top then the Bala Triathlon with our Retro day and "Retro Wave" might just be the ticket. We have the ok from OAT for short tops and will be having prizes for best retro outfits (male and female) and best retro bikes. Details will be announced soon.

This is likely what i will do.  Since the race falls on the Monday - my long ride/long run schedule will be maintained because my A race is IM Mont Tremblant.  I can't really sacrifice the weekend training so i can kick this race's butt.  I will push beyond the 'easy pacing' for my IM plan but not much more - my legs will be tired.

I really enjoy this race and I am glad to hear so many will be out! I haven't registered yet though.

hence the caveat of "if you want to perform your best" in my post - you don't need to be in peak shape for a "C" race Smile

So this is it...final week upto the start of the season.  May 21st is Vic's Duathlon!

And ya..the new coach says treat it like a good training session! I'm looking forward to this event.  Just dropped the aero bars and raised the saddle!
