Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/07/12/reid-calls-for-officials... Mr. Reid, I agree 100 % with you ....gulp .... Well said sir. Yes, they're all kind of slants here but c'mon, Chinese made Olympic uniforms ? Okay, I/we probably don't want to know how long this kind of thing has been going on and how widespread this is, not just on Olympic uniforms. I'm probably opening myself up to all sorts of hypocrisy here but enough. There probably aren't many more Olympic teams privately funded, like we are, so in a way I guess it kind of showcases capitalism but to me it's unpatriotic.... and I'm all about capitalism. The more I think about this the madder I'm getting. What do YOU think ? ![]() |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() At least this is cosmetic. But it's definitely something we could produce ourselves. Recall when our bobsled team was using European-made sleds? Good read here: |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't feel upset about it. We are showing the world how useless we really are as a country. All of the other countries know it already. We are a welfare country. The only people who don't know it... is us. Pretty soon, other countries will be donating to our athletes so that we can still participate in the Olympics, like we have done in the past for 3rd world countries. Idiocracy, here we come. Melon Presser ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think it's criminal that the hat alone costs $55 and the blazer is nearly $800! Um ... is Ralph Lauren donating the uniforms? For nearly 600 U.S. athletes? Or who's paying for them? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It is funded by private and corporate donations not US tax dollars. Still I agree it is a shame the uniforms are made in China I also hope the government does not try to get involved with something it has nothing to do with. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lifejustice, you really shouldn't hold back and be so subtle. Tell us how you really feel. BTW, I had the theme from Team America: World Police running in my head while viewing your post. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Funny thing is there isn't a law anywhere they broke. First, I can't imagine how some politician has not soap boxed on this already and passed a law mandating such a thing... Second, it boggles my mind that at the many stages from meetings, to design, to contracting, to finalization... not one person said... ,"Come on, that's just wrong." |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My cynical nature is kicking in.
I think the Dems are setting a trap for the Romney supporters. Get everyone (Dems and Repubs) outraged about this and then reveal that when Mitt was president of the USOC he did the same thing. Then Reid and Pelosi will ask "how can you still support him when he also committed such a despicable act?” |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As long as our Olympic team is privately-funded I could care less what these politicians think. I'm curious what the cost of U.S. made uniforms (made in union shops??) would have been compared to the ones they went with. And do you draw the line at uniforms? Someone mentioned bobsleds above. Look at our Olympic ski team. Many of the skis we race on are made elsewhere...Fischer (Austria), Salomon (France), Madshus (Norway). Are we going to demand that U.S. skiers race only on U.S. made skis? Good luck with that. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() SCamp07 - 2012-07-13 7:03 AM Actually, now that you mention it... The athlete uniforms for the Salt Lake Games were made by Roots which is a Canadian company. The line to get into the store in SLC to buy one of those berets stretched for blocks. Yes, you read that right - Americans voluntarily waiting for hours to buy Canadian berets. All of the workers uniforms were made by Marker though, which is an American company. Now you have me curious though, I'll have to check it and see they were made in China or something. My cynical nature is kicking in.

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So Harry has no problem borrowing baskets of cash from China, but he's absolutely outraged we're buying clothes from China? OK. You know how much of the clothing the average American buys that is made in America? 2%. You know what other products associated with our Summer Olympic team that aren't made in America? Let's see, offhand I'd say... Nike shoes, swimsuits, sunglasses, kayaks and sailing boats, volleyballs, rugby balls, many of the tri bikes, golf clubs, gymnastics equipment, javelins, discuses, vaulting poles, boxing gloves, bows and arrows, table tennis rackets, badminton rackets and the list goes on. Maybe Congress should focus more on policies that encourage and support manufacturing in America, and less on demanding that products be bought from American manufacturers that don't exist here. |

Yeah, I find it really hard to feign outrage over this. But I guess that's a good thing. Means I am not pandering demagogue politician |
