I scored 75% (no musical background)

It is SFW but does require sound (obviously)

I have a musical background and got a 72! I think it was a memory problem rather than a tone problem

May want to fix the link - it goes nowhere for me.  But you can google it and find it.

No, but I do know how to post a linkie that works ... sometimes.

http://www.jakemandell.com/tonedeaf/OnlineScreen450.swf

75% is quite impressive for no musical background ... although there did seem to be a lot of licks that were in the low-register wind instrument category.

91.7%

but I did think I scored one higher. So I'm not as NOT tone deaf as I think I am.

It's an interesting study, although I think those WITH musical training are more likely to take it (I'd like to see grouped scores by years of training they asked for)

I got an 83.3%.  I'm a scientist but I've got a pretty good ear.  I don't read music well, but after hearing a song 1-2 times I can quickly do the harmony and sometimes even get going in the melody if it is not too terribly difficult. (I'm a baritone so we always got the crappy parts).

I will agree that it was a hard test.  I think 2 things made is a bit difficult.  1. the new sound started IMMEDIATELY after hitting the button, so you had to listen quickly.  2. I don't know if they said it but they really should recommend doing it at a time when there are NO distractions.  I'm in my cube and had to close my eyes and really concentrate.

Still, all in a all, a pretty cool test.

I started the test but wasn't going to sit through 36 of those to learn what I already know; I have poor short term memory, and I while not completely tone deaf, I am tonally  impaired.

I bombed the phrasing test, but did "better than 93.5% of people" who took the pitch discrimination test you can take at the website in the banner (musicianbrain.com/pitchtest)

They could cut out 1/3 of each test though... Way too long.

Interesting. If I copy and paste it works but the direct link does not.

Too long for me to sit through.

But having a musical background I know that I have "relative pitch." My sister has "perfect pitch" - was always a fun trick to tell her to sing a specific note and test it with the piano. Perfect every time.

Are you intentionally tempting my snarkiness with that?

I got 80.6.  Other than a year or two of piano lessons when I was a little kid, no musical training...

Some observations of the ones I got wrong.  I think out of the 5 or 6 I got wrong, Only once did I say "same" when they were different.  It always seemed obvious when they were different.

However, The rest I said were "different" when they were actually the same.  I wonder why I thought I heard something different?  Maybe I was expecting them to be different so always doubted myself.  I know on half the ones I got wrong, I was hesitant about the answer, but trusted my gut.

Good news (I guess) is the ones I got wrong, were the lowest scoring ones on the test.  So I'm not alone.  In fact, in the majority of getting them wrong!

I don't need to take a test.

I have always been able to tell how off-key I am.

I got 6 samples in before I realized I probably need stereo headphones instead of a single headphone.

83.3%......no musical background but I've been married for 20 years so I figure that helped differentiate tones.

86%. I spent many years as a rock drummer...

Two drummers talking to each other:

Drummer 1: "What?"
Drummer 2: "Say again?"
Drummer 1: "Sorry, didnt catch that."
Drummer 2: "Speak up!"
Drummer 1: "Stop mumbling and talk louder!"

63.9% while sitting at my desk at work. Want to try this at home with headphones and no distractions.

For the record, I'm not tone deaf, I'm ignoring you.

91,7%

I am receiving musical training but am mostly a drummer (who said drummers were tone deaf??!) so I don't know if it helps.

Love music (making, listening), couldn't live without it

Not bad for old ears.

Thank you for taking our Pitch Discrimination Test at http://musicianbrain.com/pitchtestAt 500 Hz you can reliably hear pitch differences of 1.9375 Hz, which means you did better than approximately 84.5% of people who took our test!
