Swim
Comments: I know that pool swims are hard for race directors to manage; people don't know where to seed themselves and that was certainly true today. Got in a group of 8:30-9 minute swimmers, which seems reasonable for me. Unfortunately there was a big group of slower people ahead of us who would not move back in the line. Burned some matches passing people but eventually got into a nice open area and had a nice swim. Transition 1
Comments: Felt like I was moving in slow motion. What would you do differently?: speed it up! Bike
Comments: After all the gravel riding I've been doing this year, the tri bike felt so quick and nimble. Thoroughly enjoyed this course today. Transition 2
Comments: Did ok. Run
Comments: After taking about 6 months off running with injuries, it's been laborious getting back into the groove. I knew this would be a slow run and was prepared mentally for that. I didn't even harbor fantasies of getting into the 12 mm zone; the delay in the race start pushed the run time back to about 11 a.m., just as the sun was blazing and all the rain puddles were beginning to steam things up. Enjoyed the run, took a lot of walk breaks (A LOT). Felt really strong the last half mile. What would you do differently?: I just need to run more. Post race
Warm down: Got a piece of pizza and a Diet Coke, found my faster friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm just old, fat and slow Event comments: Great first year for this race honoring a beloved ortho doctor who died suddenly of a heart attack last year. It was very emotional watching his family and coworkers give a short presentation at the start of the race. I only gave a 4 due to the nasty weather and delayed start, which is not the fault of anyone. Volunteers were so wonderful and helpful. Last updated: 2016-07-19 12:00 AM

Local race, so didn't have to drive far. Got up at 5 am to the sound of thunder. Got a cup of coffee and stood in the garage, watching a crazy lightning show to the north (where the race would be held). The thunder just kept rumbling on and on. Storm front seemed to have stalled over the area. Ate a turkey sandwich at 6, loaded up and drove on in. Skies were greenish looking and scary. I considered turning around and bagging it.
Race was delayed over an hour due to the lightning. Everyone stood around, crammed into the YMCA, wondering what would happen. Would they cancel the event? Would it be a duathlon? We weren't even allowed to set up transition because some high winds had come and knocked over the finish line, banners, etc.
Stood around and chatted with some tri peeps. It was great to see everyone. Eventually it was decided that the race would go on. Got a length in the pool to get heartrate up, then stood in line for another 30 minutes waiting to start.
