Subject: RE: Ironman TexasMy guess:
Ironman finds locations that will completely support the race and all the hoopla. Texas is top 3 or even top 1 in numbers of triathletes, but I bet they had trouble finding a supportive location and a race director in which they could create the 'magic'. (As a Texan I would love an IMTX ) Truth is that if we are crazy enough to do an Ironman, then a little travel isn't an issue. Great example has been the Tri101 series. good distance, lots of money backing it, but they chose the venue poorly and now the whole thing is in the can.
If and when I decide to sign up for another Ironman, I look at the date and the reputation. Location is an afterthought. Afterall, our entire sport is trying to get to race in that dump of a town they call Kona (just ask those who have raced there ). Not exactly a vacation town, but they sure put on a great race!
