Subject: 2005 BT Triathlon Party at St. Anthony's - Roll Call

Well, by default, it looks like the St. Anthony's Triathlon on April 24th, 2005 will be the gathering spot for a BT get-together.  The race is on a Sunday.  I went to the St. Anthony's website and registration opens on December 1st at 9am.  It is my understanding that this race sells out in a matter of a day or two.

Post here if you plan on attending.  With some notice, we can plan BT events around the race as well as a celebration after we all finish!

What's the website?

http://www.satriathlon.com/

And the website specifically mentions cold beer!. I gotta check with wifey and see what's happening with kids during this time of year.

It was already on my "A" list for the 2005 season. From reading some of the past years recaps and knowing the local area, it should be a first class production and a terrific location.

Well, I just can't be sure now. One thing that concerns me is that it said on the website that they reached registration capacity in 5 days. That won't leave much time for folks to make up their minds.... Plus it's an Oly, which will preclude a lot of folk who are in their first season or just prefer sprints.... I know I didn't suggest anything above, but that's because I've only been in two races. Sorry to be bringing this up now....

I'm in!!

Here is the info on the sprint version, which is the day before the Oly for those who don't/can't do the Oly. There are also lots of volunteers needed to help out, so those who would like to do the sprint, can volunteer with the Oly.

MEEK & MIGHTY TRIATHLON
Run 1 mile · Bike 3.6 miles · Swim 100 yards (Ages 7-10)
Run 1 mile · Bike 5.4 miles · Swim 200 yards (Ages 11 & Over)
Saturday - April 23, 2005
The weekend competition kicks off with the Meek & Mighty Triathlon, an event open to youths ages 7-14 and novice adult triathletes. The event is held at North Shore Pool and is unique for its run-bike-pool swim format. The Meek & Mighty Triathlon culminates with a post-race awards party with lots of door prizes. Please check the event schedule for the start times for each age category. Entry is limited to 500 participants.

This is the one I would love to shoot for as my first tri. Is it unreasonable to do an Oly as my first tri, or should I start with a sprint? Even if I don't enter the tri, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go up to watch and learn.

I got the SA Tri registration marked on my calendar =)

ASA22- no it's definitely not unreasonable to do an Olympic tri as your first. That's what I did! I took a triathlon class at UF and our end of the semester "exam" was to do the Olympic tri at Clermont. It may look intimidating, but I did it and so can you.  It's not that much farther than a sprint. I did my in 3 hrs, 30 minutes. It may be slow , but I finished. Hope to see you at St. Anthonys!

I'll be there in full support/volunteer mode. If all goes right, I'll have finished IMAZ on April 9th so I just can't commit to another race so soon after. That doesn't mean I can't cheer on everyone else though :-)

I just did my first triathlon in September...an oly. You can do it as your first...you have PLENTY of time to train and prepare for it.

I definitely plan on doing it.  I participated last year and was very happy with the whole experience.

Hey ASA, I'm also doing the St. Anthony's as my first tri. So I certainly hope it's possible. I just started training 5 weeks ago and am up to 3-4 hours / week, with a goal to hit between 6-8 hours / week for a four week period before the race.

A few years ago I was living in St. Petersburg basically two blocks north of the pool that's right by the staging area. St. Anthony's is a great race and St. Pete is a fun town to visit for the weekend, esp. for northerners looking to jump-start summer when it's still cool in April. See you all there!

My plan is for St. Anthony's to be my first race of the season. I'm glad for the "heads up" on how quickly it fills up.

Barring any sudden changes in work or otherwise, count me in.

A good Oly in April will kick the season off right for me. Since my A race is a 1/2 IM in July this should be very doable.

Is there going to be a joint effort to find a common hotel to crash at? If so where? The website mentions three hotels, which I'll bet fill up right quick.

Sorry...my 30 min edit timer ran out...

I think it would be a very cool idea to all try to find some place close where we can all spend a few nights. Maybe even make reservations before tri registration even takes place so we can be sure to all get in. If for some reason, the race fills up faster and some of us are left behind, the reservations can still be cancelled without penalty since we'll know the first week of Dec.

I'm still trying to convice wifey to partake in the festivities. She's a little unsure just because she feels she doesn't know anyone - regardless of all the good press I give my fellow BT'ers. Working on convincing her to try out the short tri that takes place the day before the Olympic. She doesn't feel comfortable about running 3 miles, but I think she can squeeze out a 1 miler, a short bike, and a pool swim. She's so worried about finishing last it drives me crazy!

I may be doing it. It is during my schools April vacation and I am bringing my daughter down to Florida to visit my folks. Would I win a prize for the longest trip. (We can pretend I am coming just for the tri)

Ok, now I'm gonna shoot for it! If I register and spend the money there's no way I will back out. So I gotta start seriously training now, instead of just goofing off.

Gatorgirl thanks for the encouragement, but would you have been so supportive if you knew I was a 'Nole? (Just kidding about the encouragment thing, but not about being a 'Nole) ;-)
