Well, you know what they say about big hands and feet, right?  Big shoes, big gloves!

I realized yesterday, my new pedals are TIMEs.  I think they are very comfortable so far. Thanks for the insight on the float. My PT asked me that question last time I was in and I was like "HUH?". I just moved up to a size 37 carbon bottom SIDI tri shoe and love them.

DJ, thanks for the fake dog. Not quite what I am hoping for, maybe one day a real one will show up......

Andy--GROUP HUG! and yes, now it is back to work or training!

Jeff-what kind of dog?

Steve- our friends have a Labradoodle, Stoli and another friend has a goldendoodle,Charlee.  Both would work! Maybe one of you guys could give me one for my b-day on APril 25th!

She is a Bernese Mountain Dog, right now she sits around 75 lbs and still all puppy energy!  She is not an exercise dog, although she will run a while, she will be nice and lazy the rest of the day if we take her out on a jog.

Unfortunately I learned my lesson the hard way one day.  She can run faster than me at dead sprint... and when she is on a leash and darts in front of me, I have good instincts to hit the ditch so I do not face plant on the sidewalk trying to avoid tripping or stepping on her.  That was a funny scene, my wife will not let me live it down.

You have got the best b-day in the world, although I may be a little biased! Same here

Weird story:

My tri bike has vision brake levers. These levers have plastic caps and the left one keeps coming off. Finally it comes off and is lost, so I order a new pair. They show up and it turns out that there is a flange off the back that the lever pivot screw goes through, which is how the cap is supposed to stay on. The one I lost did not have one.

I thought the screws were rivets and at the LBS asked how am I supposed to get a rivet out and then insert a new one. Nobody knew until I got to this guy Lawrence in the truck outside who told me it is not a rivet but a screw with a 3mm hex head. I go home and the head on mine is stripped. I contact the company that manufactures them and it turns out they do not sell the ub-parts.

Now I am about to go to a local company I contacted last week to pick up two of these screws. They were 0 cents each, but I HAD to give a credit card for them to order them.

Tonight I use the screw extractor to remove the stripped one and then insert the new one and the cap. WHAT a PITA for one small problem. (Whine/Rant over).

Can I ask a TOTALLY NON-TRI related question?  Do any of you own a Kindle?   I am a huge reader and most of my bookclub now has one.  They are very appealing but I think I would miss actually holding books.  I love having a book collection.  Anyone????

I am not sure what the appeal is...I would much rather have the book.  How are you supposed to build up an impressive library with a kindle?

Love my kindle - I have the Gen 1 and use it almost daily.  I wil evaluate the Gen 3 when it comes out, but I saw no reason to upgrade from 1 to 2...  Lots of free books available too....  Get one, you won't be sorry!

If I was going to read pdf style books I will just stick w/ my laptop. I would use a kindle if it was priced more reasonably but I enjoy print books. I am also partial and love my MBP so I try to find exccuses to play on it.

Kyla - I'll have to take a picture of my road bike for you. She is not pink but has lots of pink accessories!  I get lots of comments and I love it. (Something about passing a dude when you are riding pink tires is very good for the ego!!)  And how do you like the running skirt?  My hubby got me one for x-mas but I am having trouble with the image.  I know, coming from the chic with pink tires right?

Oooh, yes, please post pics, Tracy!!

It is only in the last few years that I have embraced my inner pink... Always loved the tomboy image, but having a daughter who plays in the dirt and climbs trees in fancy dresses and sparkly shoes, plus a running partner who values fashion over function, well, I've found it's fun to play girl. My girlfriend got me a running skirt a few years ago and I scoffed at it. Then I ran in it and LOVED it!! Sooooo comfy and totally cute. So now I have lots of 'em. My favorites are SkirtSports skirts. I have them both with spankies (like a swimsuit bottom) and with shorts, but prefer the spankies. For long runs (15+) I do need to BodyGlide the inner thighs. The skirts with shorts are good for classes at the gym, and are fine for running but do hike up a bit until you get a good sweat going, then they stay down.

I don't wear the skirts in the rain, as the skirt part clings to the legs and that's annoying.

And fashion-wise they are great and I do feel cute and sassy grabbing a coffee or running errands after a good run wearing a skirt and tank in the summer (even sportier if you have dirt on your legs from the trails!). I carry weight in my upper thighs, so to me the skirts hide that flab and let my lower legs show -- the stronger, firmer part.

Do I sound like a walking commerical or what?! OK, now help me get some pink on my bike!!

The education kids receive now days is pathetic here in the states. Unless you can afford a private school or something. At least that is how it is here in Ohio. My undergrad was an eye opener when I had a couple of the 20 year olds in my class that could not do the most basic of math and english.

Por Que?  Schools need to embrace technological change - most of what they do in the technology realm today is nothing more than window dressing...  power point on a whiteboard - one or two computers per classroom...  kids today interact differently with technology than we do...

tahrens - 2010-01-19 8:37 AM SIDI makes a great tri shoe.  They are expensive but every little piece is replaceable and guaranteed.  One pair should last you forever when you can change out each little piece if it wears out.

I started with speedplays b/c I was told they were the easiest to clip in and out of. But I had too much trouble and have switched to LOOK KEOs.  They are great.

Stretching:  Don't forget your hamstrings, glutes and hip flexors!!!  Long lunges with your hips pushed forward for the hip flexors,  straight legs and touch your toes  (or beyond if you can) for the hammies, and rest you foot over your opposite knee and bend forward for the glutes.  Spend some quality time with your foam roller as well.

I really wanted to fit the SIDI carbon shoes, I had heard such great things about them, but alas, I was in between sizes.  I ended up getting the Shimano Tri Shoes TR50, I think and they have been great for road riding and tri.

I really wanted to love the speedplays b/c similar to Tracy, I was told they were great with the double sided entry, easy in and out...anyhow, I got them and for the life of me could not clip into them without using every ounce of my weight to get in and then to get out, I think I would almost crash every time...the LBS (local Bike store) was so nice, they exchanged them for me (scratches and all) and put me into Look, which was like an absolute dream, the first time I used them, I almost cried, it was so easy!

Mett- the point I am getting at is that it is very individual, if you can buy some of these items especially shoes and clipless pedal system locally the first time, it will save you lots of hassle, you will get more assistance, you can try things out and make sure it really fits you and works for you.  I am a big Craigslist/ Ebay person, but only on things I absolutely know are going to work for me.  Like my favorite running shoe or socks (balega-thanks tracy!)

I covet the Kindle, but have tried to take a "less is more" approach to my life and have given up most book buying. I use the library a TON... and have pretty much said I'd boycott the Kindle until it supported library books and/or sharing with others. On the occasion that I do buy books, I love passing them on to friends and vice versa. That said, I secretly hoped for one for Christmas (but my husband knows my stand on library books). It's a drag carrying around two books when you're about to finish one and want to have the next one at the ready. Or on trips I often pack 3-5 books (plus 1-2 for each kid). But to me so much about books is sharing them and the Kindle makes that hard to do.

Oh, and when I was playing with my m-in-law's recently and giving a demo to my son, I was pretty bummed to see that Harry Potter books aren't available for the Kindle. So that is another downside -- that you can't get all books on it.

So if you get one, let us know what you think. I think they are super-duper cool, really!
