I agree that Kelowna vs Penticton would not be good, but I think Kelowna as a location could be amazing.  The lake borders right on a massive park that could act as transition, and there are any number of routes to then ride.  Huntsville is nice, but I think that they'll have to find a new bike/run route, other wise it might be a little too epic.  Plus Ontario heat and humidity in July (if that's when they hold it) could be miserable. 

I see Kelowna is getting no love on ST either...

It's too bad. All the knowledgeable people are staying away from both forums for different reasons but with the same result. Very sad.

I did day 1 of a 2 day Coaching certification class (first level). It is run by Tri Canada.  It was interesting. I have no plans to coach but I wanted to know what I didn't know.The technical stuff was nothing new. The 'how to interact with athletes was probably more interesting. They should make it a pre-requisite to join BT or ST :-)

Can't comment on that as I have pretty much backed out of the ST boards for similar reasons as here. I too enjoy this group and learn a tremendous amount from you all.  I also enjoy the race-specific threads. There is one other part of BT that is fantastic as well: the State specific boards, or at least the Georgia one is. It is most often as busy as this one, and full of really smart folks, many of them long-time BTrs, but they too have pretty much retreated from the main board, for similar reasons, I suppose. My guess is that the state boards are pretty hit-and-miss though. The other one that I look in on from time to time is the Alabama group, but that thread is mostly just full of dust-bunnies and cobwebs...

Oof. I had one of my last good KOMs stolen today: a 40 mile section that is ridden by tons of folks. I was pretty proud of that one. The dude took it by 7.5 minutes, so I am pretty sure he was in a group working, but it still bites. Ah, well...

Yucky weather here today, rain, wind and cold so I was forced to put the bike on the trainer to ride.  1 hour and 45 mins - gross!

I found out yesterday that I will be travelling for work again in a couple of weeks.  It's been over 2 years since I travelled for work and now it has been 3 times in the last 6 weeks or so.

Ya agreed, that's the one thing missing from where I live.  Some good solid climbing.

How does Strava determine segments where one can become a KOM ?

Yesterday I ran through the cemetery and I got a running KOM for a pretty hilly segment. I didn't flag it as a segment, I don't even know how to. I wanted to see who else had done it and there was nobody.

So how did it randomly make me the king of that one segment ?

The only thing I can think is someone did it on a bike and I'm the only strava person to do it running.

Speaking of cemeteries....everyone says how great it is to run through this cemetary. I have lived near it for 4 years and never dared run there. I thought it was disrepectful and it was creepy doing it. What do you guys think ? There are lots of people on mountain bikes on the paths. Very strange.

I always thought that Oahu was really flat.  And obviously if you stick to the coastline where the major roads are, it is very flat.  It wasn't until I found Strava that I noticed just how many rideable climbs there are.  They aren't very popular riding routes because recreational cyclists would think you're stupid for trying...but there are at least 20 climbs of at least 1 mile averaging over 5% withing pretty close proximity.

I haven't done it before, but know people who do.  I would refer to the cemetary management or owners.  If they allow it or don't mind, then I think it's fine.  Ultimately, there are people that paid the cemetary owner to be buried there (it isn't a public park), so if that payment was made assuming that running/biking was not allowed, then you should repect those rules even though there isn't anyone to enforce it.  I am not sure what the policy is on at the cemetary that some of my friends run through.

It is allowed. I asked. But it's still weird and I struggle with it. On one hand it's safe because there are no cars, on the other it's strange. At one point I hit a dead end and had to walk by a bunch of tombs to get back to a path. Of course I walked where it was appropriate, but found myself apologizing to the people buried. It was just weird.

We have a lot of cemeteries in central PA.  I see a lot of people ridding and running trough them.  I do not run thru them, although I do not find it disrespectful.  Which I think is weird I think like that.  There is one cemetery that is on top of a big hill that I ride through.  If there is any indication of a service going on I do not ride it out of respect.  I always stay on he main rode.  When I ride through this cemetery, which is maybe once or twice a year, I say a prayer for the love one behind that they have peace.
