Just something simple - 4x25 each of catch-up, kick, and fist (along with a warm-up and cooldown). I did OK with the kick and fist, but the catchup seems to be eluding me. I understand what I'm supposed to be doing but I just couldn't make it work right. I feel like I'm sinking and my breathing gets all screwed up. I'm hoping that with more practice I can figure it out and not feel like I'm going to drown, lol! I've got my second Pilates class after work tonight and I'm still not recovered from the first one ![]() Janet Keep at it Janet. You are doing great! Drills are our friends. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kickitinok - 2010-01-21 8:27 AM Thanks for all the advice everyone. Going to stick with 1500 yards on swim and do some drills to check my endurance. Will continue to work on form and subsequently speed. In terms of my run, I am going to stick with a 2 mile run for an add'l week as I've only ran this distance for one week. I'll increase in 10% increments. Do NOT want to injure myself - I've always been leery about run injuries due to my excess weight. I'm going to get a separate tri top/shorts to race in. Thanks again! I think that you will greatly see a speed increase w/ your form drills. |

Over the course of not more than a week, my 800yd TT dropped like 20seconds. I need to do a 100oyd TT to compare against the one at the beginning of Dec, but I do feel like the drills are what is helping. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the input on the RETUL. I know they have some great people at GW, just did not know if it would be worth the additional money to have them use it or if they would get you basically the same without numbers by just normal fitting. Hopefully after tomorrow night I will know if my seat adjustments helped. I will probably give it a few more weeks of tweaking and then may look into a cobb seat. Anyone know width how their different models compare to the Adamo? I sometimes question if the Adamo is still on the small side for me (as I can feel my sitbones slide off the side every once in a while.) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Reno8 - 2010-01-21 7:21 AM SSMinnow - 2010-01-20 10:01 AM DougRob - 2010-01-20 8:08 AM Wow, Suzy has usually posted by now! Since she has not I'll ask the SUzy wednesday question: Who's racing this weekend? Hey If you are going to take over my job at least do it with a little pizzaz! So, who is toeing the line this weekend? what are your stretch goals? And if you aren't racing what is your one focus workout of the weekend? And yes, I said one! Not racing, but have a 14 miler scheduled. This is virgin territory for me. In all of my years of running before and since I started down the Tri road I have never "run" this far. I've done 10+ half-marathons and 1 full marathon but the full and some of the halves were all on some version of Gallo-walking...usually 5-1 or something like that. The plan for this marathon is to run the distance and if I have to walk some it will be water stops only....so any long runs I have from this point forward will be new ground for me.......I am excited about this. Steve I have done marathons both Galloway and non-Galloway. You will be FINE on your long runs! Just keep 'em slow and steady. The biggest difference I find with the walk breaks is how I feel later in the day: I am much less fatigued that afternoon and the next day when I have walk breaks. Much more sore w/o them. So at this point in my life, I tend to look at what's going on in my life and attack long runs and schedules that way: How "ON" do I need to be? If not very, then I like to do all running and go faster. But covering the distance is still covering the distance, so I'm sure your 14-miler will be just fine! Come and post how it goes when you're done!! |

I've got my second Pilates class after work tonight and I'm still not recovered from the first one ![]() Janet Janet -- catch-up is my favorite drill, as I feel like I get the most out of it. But it is tricky and I always feel a bit "off" doing it. For me, I kick a LOT more when I do the drill, to keep myself balanced. All of the other time I swim I am the queen of the two-beat kick. But keeping a light flutter really helps. I like this drill best because it helps me extend and really reach, and that's what I tend to focus on when I stop and check in on my stroke. Plus I think it feels good to stretch out swimming -- opens up those hips a bit for me. |

You looked soooo smooth and relaxed. I always feel like a frazzled freak in my transitions, because I see them as free time so I just zoom through them as quickly as I can. But I don't think they are overly fast by any means... for my HIM they were 2:44 and 2:36 (T2 was a mess cuz it rained while we were on the bike and my area got a bit trashed by the people racked around me). But I certainly felt much more rushed and frazzled than you looked. Fun video!! Ooooh -- I missed the pink tires. I need to go back and look again!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Went to the doctor today and they gave me some antibiotics for a sinus infection I have been fighting off and also some cough meds with codine so I can sleep at night. Normally I stay away from drugs etc, but a few hours of sleep a night have been wearing me thin.Did my run tonight, after calibrating my 310 with the footpod, since I had not done that yet, and I continued to warmup a bit more. Did 5x (3t,2r) although the workout called for 8, I cut it a bit short as my evening plans got interrupted by the dr. Big workout day tomorrow, 1 hour swim and a 55 min bike workout (5 min TT)Oh yeah my ANT+ updater came so I upgraded my hub and now the garmin pick it up! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 1-The best would be a Garmin 305, 310XT, 500 or 705, next best cateye or other with wireless cadence 2-Get clipless pedals and bike shoes suggest Look Keo, Shimano SPD or Speedplay pedals, bike shoes Sidi, Specialized, Shimano 3-Great news on the swim congrats! I would either add a bit more distance(not more than 10% a week) and/or do speedwork and work on your swim mechanics 4-work on running longer but increase distance slowly, otherwise injury could result. It's ok to walk, some people can run faster overall when they take walk breaks than they do purely running Did I miss something? Why are you laying off cycling? kickitinok - 2010-01-20 9:55 PM Hello dear MG - hope everyone is having a great evening. I have a few more questions: 1. What kind of bike computer should I buy for my new road bike? My bike has clips...should I get some bike shoes, or just wear my running shoes for the bike portion of the race? 2. I'm still confused as what to wear come race time. There are so many options. I do know that I want a wet suit for OWS's, but what do I wear under the wet suit? My bike clothes, my swimsuit, a tri suit, commando??? I'm still at a loss as to whether I need a one piece tri suit, or a two piece. (A special shout-out to kkcbelle for getting me hooked on Skirtsports clothing - adorable and now I want to spend $500 on all the cool stuff I've found there. 3. My swimming is going great - endurance-wise. I really don't feel the need to rest very often at all...I'm hardly ever out of breath, and I'm now up to 1500 yards. Should I try to add more distance to my swims, or should I stay where I'm at until I don't need to rest between sets at all? Or....should I try to increase speed to my existing swim plan? 4. Regarding my run - I can comfortably run 2 miles without stopping to walk now (yay!). Should I continue to keep running this distance for a while, or should I add maybe .5 mile on the run? Or should I add a .5 mile walk? Or should I try to run another mile? I know that my BT training plan tells me what I need to do, but since I'm laying off cycling right now, I figured my body could handle more in the areas of swim/run. |

Can you recommend any good speed drills or form drills? Lisa - I decided to lay off the biking a little, but not totally. I am, however, going on a long ride this weekend on my pretty pretty girliefied Specialized bike There are four or five drills that I use consistently now - catchup drill, fist drill, single arm, finger tip drag, and kick drill. Oh yeah, don't forget stroke count drills. Most of these drills are described here. But a google search or you tube search will probably give you video to look at. I generally do the drills for 25 yards or so and will combine a couple into a set that is repeated (this comes from swimplan.com) like 25 single arm / 25 kick / 25 drag / 25 swim - repeat 4 to 6 times. Try swimplan.com for some workouts, I have been happy with it so far... |
