Yesterday was run my typical 5K course in reverse. Focused on how different the run looks doing the course in reverse.

Awesome!

I've got 6 miles today that I'm doing as part of a poker run that a running store here does occasionally.  You run past guys along a running trail here that hand you cards, and the best hand wins a pair of shoes.

Love that kind of stuff. Ever gotten involved with the harriers?

Just seen them launch and land when I was stationed onboard the USS Guadalcanal LPH 7. They are a sight to see and a marvel in technology.

I'm a Hasher. I'm unnamed tho. Unfortunately I haven't done anything with the group for over a year. Training too much.

I read over the thread today and I love all of the info that is being shared. Wow, I need to get the JD book.

Popsracer, I'm in the same boat with the low hemo. Sucks. Changed my diet to have lots of beef, oysters, clams, spinach, and then lots of vit C. I can't take multi vitamins so I've got prenatal vitamin per my doc. Hemo is on the upswing but still not low normal. Good luck with it.

Rest day for me on running. Early morn alarm for intervals.

Pam, you should get the book and join us in the book club challenge.  This purpose challenge has been a great trial run on starting to think about purpose.  I'm learning from the book the purpose of the purposes and how it relates to the developement of a long term training plan.  Great stuff.

I must have missed it -- What's the title of the JD book? He's written quite a few I see on Amazon. Thanks.

Well my hand sucked: Ace Spades, Jack Clubs, 7 hearts, 4 clubs, 3 diamonds.

Also I was supposed to stay around 7:30 for 35 minutes of my run, which I was doing pretty well until a guy made a comment like "I heard you were supposed to be fast or something".  My first thought was who the @(*# are you?! But then I was left with a choice:

a) Remember that pacing is critical for my training, and pushing it harder today could hurt me down the road.  In short, stay the course.

b) Think of.....FORGET IT ATTAAAAAAAACK!

For about 2.5 minutes I went my 10k pace and dropped him.  Fun effort, but I should have just stayed at my pace.  I'm too competitive for my own good.

This is why group runs are no good for me.

6 miles today WU - 2 x 15 Fartlek - CD then my coach only had me do one 15 minute because I'm racing Saturday. It was 90 degrees so I'm no complaining! We ended up going a little under 6:25 or so I believe. The purpose was practicing surging on the hills and varying terrain to simulate cross country. Our coach says the motto for the fall is hills and recovery.

No you shouldn't have.  There is nothing short of a PR more satisfying than spanking someone like that.  You're my hero for the day.

5.4 tonight. I am looking forward to our book club.. I am not sure what my purposes should be, I may be winging it at this point!
I am having a purpose but it may not be that relevant to running growth.

Today's purpose: thinking time.....good stuff didnt solve anything but still therapeutic

5.5 miles. Purpose: Intervals. Gave myself license to be happy with 5 sets but I squeaked out 7 sets. Pace was a little off but it's done. Garmin is definitely dying tho. Shoot.

Ha!  Glad someone understands my temptation.

Today's run is a foundation run with strides:

WU: Run 5 minutes @ Pace Zone 2 (Low Aerobic)

MS: Run 25 minutes @ Pace Zone 3 (Moderate Aerobic)

CD: Run 5 minutes @ Pace Zone 2

Run 6 x 30 seconds @ Pace Zone 10 (Speed) w/ 1-minute recoveries @ Pace Zone 2

In addition to writing your race number on each upper arm, they also wrote your age on your calf. This allowed me to see who was passing me by in the bike section of this race.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.
