Just a quick drive by! Swim =awesome! Crystal clear water. Perfect temp @ 69 F. Bike was bumpy! And my garmin froze for the first 6 mi of the bike. Went by feel and that turned out good bc I didn't push too hard. Kept it in Z3! Run was my favorite! Awesome crowd support! Slowed down in the middle but picked up the last 3 miles. And ice down your shorts is the GREATEST THING EVER! Smile on my face the whole time! Oh and I saw Crowie! Walked right by him in transition. Sorry for the 900 exclamation points, i'm just so excited!

Hey Peeps!  Awesome job to Kim, Doxie way to rock it - I need some run lessons from the two of you!

Great job Dan.  I had a little of your weather today on the bike - sounds like yours was crazy with a more techical course.

I had a good day going 7-8 minutes faster than last year.  Still waiting on the official times.  Swim was about the same as last year (prob would have been faster if I swam straight!), bike was around 3:09 and a bit faster than last year (in torrential rains for part of the time right through the heart of a major thunderstorm).  Run was brutal again but still a bit faster than last year.  With the training I did, I can't complain about the results.  Headed out to France tomorrow so don't now when I can get the RR done but I know you don't expect it any time soon.  I'm thinking that as long as I beat what Linda just did, I am golden!

Hi guys! Quick check in, I am pooped! Congrats to Melissa and George! Great job, guys, Dan, crazy race!!! I had a great swim, a bit of a mechanical on the bike and a strong run (with some tummy issues that I managed fairly well). Details to follow after what I imagine will be a very deep sleep. Perfect, I mean perfect weather!!! Thanks for all of the encouragement.

Congratulations to all of our racers!  Each of you put in a terrific performance!  Now it's time to get working on recovery and crafting those RRs!

Big recovery week is on tap for me and some work travel so like Trevor, I won't be around too much this week.  Make it a good one!

Need some input from the MG.  I realized on Saturday that I've been obliviously riding on the wrong size crankset on my bike. So I need to purchase a new one.  Anyone have a recommendation for what I should get?  compact 50/34.  Basically I am clueless when it come to bike parts other than how to use them so any help would be much appreciated.

Say more.  What are you using now?  I have a 50/33 compact on the front (bike came that way) and I changed out my rear crankset a couple weeks back to an 11/28 (had a 12/25).  I am happy with that move.  It helped on the hills this past weekend and I am sure that it will help for my HIM course at the beginning of Sept.

It currently has a gossamer FSA 50/34 crank (172.5 mm which is the problem) with Shimano ultegra deraileur and Shimano CS-6600 cassette (12/25). I guess Shimano would make the most sense.  I was also thinking of getting a new cassette for those WI hills.

By wrong size I'm guessing you mean you were riding a double before and now want to move to a compact?

What size rear cassette are you using now?  Replacing that will cost you $75 - $100.  Replacing the crank will cost $250 - $500.

Not saying that switching to a compact is a bad thing but it's a more expensive thing.

It's the length of the crank arm. Currently 172.5, fit to a 170. Since the arm length is too big might as well go for the compact.

Rear cassette is 12/25.

Stupid question alert... there is no such thing as a tri-bike specific crankset, correct?

Ok, that makes sense. I'd go with a true compact crank 50/34 vs. the new mid-compact which you can get in different configurations.

Then I'd get either a 11-27 or 12-27 for the rear cassette.

There are aero chainrings which basically have the holes filled in vs a normal chainring that has the open spaces (weighs less) but no such thing as a tri-bike crankset.
