![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Monica with a 42:27 swim, go Monica!! Looks like the turnaround timing mat on the bike isn't working so we won't get any more info until they're done with the bike. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Really tough day today. It's the hottest I've ever experienced racing Galveston. I nailed my swim and bike to set me up with my goal of 5h30m and then when I got off the bike my legs locked up and would not release. That run was the hardest thing I've done. It became a matter of just survival. I had major dehydration issues today. I think I didn't drink enough water yesterday and this morning. Lesson learned. I'm not upset even tho I missed my goal because I finished my 5th 70.3 today and that is a goal in itself. Overall I'm pleased. Thanks for posting updates Sean! |

I had the same issue in the Boulder 70.3 last year. It was the first hot day we had had all year. When you get here for Boulder IM, drink, drink, and drink some more! Congrats, Monica! You had a great race as well!! Edited by fortissimo 2016-04-10 5:38 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I ran a 21:12 yesterday at the Kettering College 5k, 6th OA, 1 AG. The first half of the race felt good, but about halfway in, I started to not feel good. I was lacking normal energy and pace. A little after two miles in, my running partner caught me, and I threw a lasso onto her, and followed her in. There were three of us running together, and I sprinted in to take what I thought was fifth. Turns out the guy that was running with us had crossed the mat eight seconds after I did, and though I took him in a sprint, he still had three seconds of chip time on me. Anyhow, my goal was to crack the top 10. I know I have a faster race time in me, but I think a few things conspired against me on the day to slow me down. I won a $64 pass to King's Island, which will be cool. My running partner also won her age group in a 21:20 performance, so good on her. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Monday, Pod. Thank you all so very much for the inspires, messages, and support through the last week and especially after Thursday. I wrote a post on my standalone blog in tribute to Vivaldi if you care to check it out (link is in my signature.) It has some of my favorite pictures of her! And Yanti....I am honored to be remembered as Vivaldi's human for all time...she was a far better soul than I, and to be remembered because of her makes me smile. Congrats to all racers. I have my RR up, and can't wait to read ones from the rest of the Pod. Galveston looked hardcore! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congratulations racers! Good work all around! Ben, I'm glad that you got some "cross training" in this weekend. Robin, I'm happy that you are feeling better. Note to self, if ear hurts, take care of it. Don't wait for the ice picks! Have a great week all! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats to all the racers this weekend. Some really great performances. I, on the other hand, am an idiot. Went to packet pickup the night before my 5k and couldn't figure out why no one was around until it stuck me. I was a week early. Thankfully it gives me another week to get ready which I badly need. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great racing podsters! Getting out there and crossing the line is an end in itself. Some nice times, to boot, as bonuses (in my book). Laura, sorry about your loss. So hard. Kim and I returned to racing yesterday (with about 20k other people - 3rd biggest 10k in the States) at the Cap10k. Lots of fun. Corollary to LeMond is, "It doesn't get harder, you just go slower." ~12 minutes slower than last year, in fact... Fun to be out at an event like that, even so! The taco I ate after, though - not so fun last night. Was "less than fresh" I think. Apparently, when making 20k-30k breakfast tacos for the post-race, you have to start early in the week. Yuck. Taking a toll, but short lived (I hope!). M |

Thankfully it gives me another week to get ready which I badly need. That's funny. Better a week early than late I suppose. I actually decided to do the May race. The idea of going so far back in my plan was killing my mojo, so I sacrificed the cooler, bigger race for one that was sooner. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh and continuing my two week tour de US, I'm headed to the left coast this week. Hopefully this time I will have the time and good health to enjoy some sea food and a run on the beach. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Manatees!!!! I made it! I completed half marathon! Whoo hooo!!! ![]() Best advice ever I got from you (along with many other) was to walk during drinking at the water stations. It helped me relax and clear my mind. I have to say this, I hate running and I thought long distance running was super boring, but this race was the very first time when I was not bored and I did not have a single thought of “Why am I doing this?????” Which I had at some point at even some fine 5 and 10k’s. I think big part of it was that I really took it easy. I was not racing, I did not set a finish goal, I was just slowly running. I decided I would take some time and enjoy what was around me: fantastic lake and waves, birds, the sun, sculptures in the park. Normally I would count miles beginning from mile 1 (ekhm… yeah…) this time I smiled every time I got to the next mile and had not even single thought of stopping or quitting. The weather sucked at the beginning, as it was 20+ degrees and super windy, with some of snow, also – the sidewalk was super icy. But on the bright side: it was very sunny, so at least the spirit was there ![]() Race report to come once I’m not this busy at work… ugh… but I wanted to stop by and see how other races did and share my achievement. Adrienne, you’re gonna love this: before we started (and the start was delayed by almost 30 minutes…) there are some old guys behind me (like 60-years old) and made a comment: “see, that’s the reason I like 50k much better. There’s only like 50 participants, and not the crazy crowd like this…” |
