Sam--So glad you're going to be ok and your bike is not damaged.  We need pics!!  Wink

Linda--nice run in the heat and humidity.  Sounds like you are enjoying your summer.

Kyla--You are a swimming demon.  I wish I lived close enough to you for some 1-1 lessons.

Doug--way to crush the bike portion of the race.

As for me, I'm gearing up for my first tri next weekend.  It's close to home, so I plan on going down and checking our the course this week.  I'm excited!

thanks Jayne - you don't want pics.  My daughter won't look at me as my eye is halfway swollen shut.  And all sorts of colors plus the stitches and road rash.  Of course, big important  meeting at work on Monday.  Lovely, I may be wearing my shades.

Sorry Suzy about the race.  The weather is a little crummy around here today as well.  Not sure what's going on w/ the DC Tri.

The title: The race that wasn't......

After an hour delay the RD cancelled the swim due to continued lightning and thunder and turned it into a ride/run with a TT start every 5 seconds.  Decided riding in those conditions wasn't worth it.  There was no way I could excute my "balls to the wall' bike strategy so bailed.  The storms appear to be passing, but no regrets.  The even bigger highlight was the 8' rip in my wetsuit when I put it on. Quite a day.

As you  might imagine, I am looking for a back up race!

In the "are you ready for this?" column....it stops t-storming so I take it outside to do a ride.  I realize it rained so hard my JOULE got water on the inside so the screen is totally fogged up, it rained so hard my aerobar plugs must have come out, both of them.  And to top it all off, I got hit in the helmet by a golf ball.  I would like to curl up and eat chocolate all day, but Cooper and I have to exit for a 2-4pm showing......

Happy Father's Day boys.  I miss mine a lot.

Sam:

Your new look reminds me of when I was hit by a car in Cambridge Mass in 1990. I was black and blue around my left eye and could actually see my swelling around my eye. I had a hockey game the next night which like an idiot I went to. My teamates were so sympathetic: "Don't put your helemt on until you get to the bench. That way you'll scare the other team!" So feel better.

Well I finished my first Sprint today. There were some ugly parts that I am laughing at now. Apparently the swim course was not a slalom course but I treated it like one... HAHAHAHA.

I will do up a race report tomorrow. But the important part is I did it and I finished even after telling myself to quit about 5 times on the swim.

Had a great bike ride. It was windy and a bit tough, but I just settled in and enjoyed my time on the bike.

Got off the bike Still felt great and started out a bit hard on the run and backed it down about 1km into my run I had the worst side stitch I have ever had and it stayed with me for the rest of the run... I had to stop and walk twice to try and get past it.... as soon as I started to run it came back.. just slowed down my running to a snails pace for most of the run.. and finished strong with all my friends and family cheering.

One of the toughest days of my life. But one of my best accomplishments ever....

Where is the next race baby.......

Finished my Olympic. IT apparently wasn't my day to get under 3 hours but I did get a PB so I am very happy. RR to follow. Going to have a beer and relax.

Sam sorry to hear about the accident but good hear it will all heal.

Yes, occasionally. It is usually brought on by very high pollen counts and very high humidity.  I rarely use an inhaler though.  Really jacks with my HR.  Why do you think you have it?

Hi gang - I'm home alive and almost well.  Let me tell you that the face in not the best place to land first in a fall and dried blood is not a cool mascara.  My right side is pretty sore but I will heal.  The best news is my brand new bike seems to be ok.  I did have to ask about my bike before being taken away on the stretcher.  LOL  And some were very nice people on the trail who took care of me until the ambulance arrived.  I wish there was a way to thank them.

As far as the accident all I can say is sh*t happens.  It happended so fast I don't think my hands left my bars.  And I didn't even do anything stupid.  Oh well.  All in all things could have been a lot worse.

Any advice on something on my face to prevent scarring?  I have a fairly large patch of road rash under my right eye around the eye socket.

Glad your ok! And in regards to the scar prevention you can try Bio-oil. I was told by my doctor to use it after I had surgery on my feet so to prevent scaring from the stitches and it worked. You can get it an any Pharmacy like CVS, Walgreens, RiteAid, etc

Hi Sam, sorry about your crash...

Best thing for scarring is a product called Bio Oil - not sure if you get that in the US? Also Rosehip oil or a gel called Dermatrix.

All these things need to be applied daily for at least 3 months

After my long bike rides (70+) I am unable to take a dep breath.  When I try my chest just tightens up.  A few hours later I am usually fine.  So yesterday I did 75 and the same thing happened.  Then today I ran 6 miles and the last few I could feel my chest tightening with each breath I took.  I worry it is goig to cause a problem in August.

It was the pace booty that got me that close. It just kept running past me and I was trying to keep up

Those are very different symptoms from mine.  For me, it is very hard to take a deep breathe without wheezing during the effort and I end up coughing a lot when finished. I had a pulmonary test to diagnose it.  I am glad you are seeing a doctor.

Happy Monday!

Congrats on all the great racing everyone:  Doug - awesome bike split.  Linda - flying as usual.  Spanky - First one done...Congrats!  Rob - PB with the ASSistance of some pace booty - nice!

Sam - very glad you are OK.  Sounds like a scary morning.  My wife has been nervous about me going on long rides lately so I didn't share this story with her!  Made me be a little more cautious on my ride yesterday.  I echo Dino's comments on Road ID.

Suzy - bummer on the race but I am actually glad you didn't run on that foot!!!

Good weekend here, long run and bike done, 4 yards of mulch spread, our cardboard boat stayed afloat with 4 dads and 10 kids (pics maybe tonight), and a great fathers day.

Short week for me - we leave for Louisville, KY on Wednesday afternoon for a extra long weekend vacation.  Looking forward to some time away!!

George

Sam - ouch. Glad you are ok. Still would like to see some pics though.

Great job Chris on the first one!

Rob - Run. Stop gawking!!!

I 'm  Georgeing on the RR... But had a decent swim and a normal Trevor run- giving spots back to everyone.

My bike was crazy - out to the turnaround, uphill into the wind averaged 26.5m/hr (16.5mph)

coming back - downhill with the wind Ave. 41.3km/hr(25.8mph). At one point i was just shy of 70km/hr(44mph). Was awesome!!
