Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yep, that is the kind of bold attitude that will propel you forward. We all know there is plenty to work on to improve, but being proud of what you accomplish along the way is key. We just finished up our last group dinner at a restaurant called Frieda. Seven courses each with wine pairings later I am beyond stuffed. I needed to put on my expando shorts and plan to wear a tent instead of a swimming suit at the pool tomorrow. One full day and night left before heading back to Mad town... Reno8 - 2010-01-26 8:38 PM kickitinok - 2010-01-26 8:55 PM LOL! OK, then......I FREAKIN' ROCK! I do feel like I get a great workout in and it is motivational. Hate all the kicking and Medley drills, but I skip alot of that crap anyway. I can always just swim laps, but wondering how much the INTENSITY of the group really helps. Time to start swimming...one way or the other. It can't and won't hurt you! They are good! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeepguy2358 - 2010-01-25 5:22 PM My legs felt a little heavy and stiff, but other than that....not too bad at all. kickitinok - 2010-01-26 4:47 PM 1. I also am not fond of new year's resolution lovers kissing in swim lanes and making people puke. I'm not a fan of the dorks who stop in swim lanes to talk to to the lifeguard because they are in dire need of attention. I am not a fan of people bringing their children to adult lap swim and insisting the kids play in the shallow end of the swim lanes. I don't like it when people camp out on machines....it's rude. Most of these people also don't realize that you should wipe-down the machine when you are finished (on the remote chance that they even broke a sweat - talking typically doesn't produce a sweat). 2. I forgot what I was going to put here. Oh...I know what it is! People are putting their sweaty clothes in the swimsuit dryer?!? OMG! I'd probably lose my cookies! I would definitely ask management to place a sign above the machine that saying "Swimsuits Only." 3. Did my first real brick today. 10 mile bike ride, 2 mile run. You can see my time in my training log/blog. It's not as impressive as all you in-shape people, but I'm pretty proud of it considering I've only been training 7-8 weeks and couldn't run 100 yards/swim 25 yards when I began Awesome job Trina! 10 bike /2 run is great! At one point, we were all where you are. Keep up the good work. How did your legs feel off the bike? To your #1... I saw a girl a couple weeks ago who would swim 50m then stop and text. Swim 50m and text. That lasted for another 30 min. |

NEVER EVER are you allowed to downplay your accomplishments. We are all in varying stages of the sport of triathlon AND every piece of progress is valuable and we all think it is fabulous. You are doing great. BTW - In this MG, you are not allowed "downplay" your accomplishments when you compare yourself to others. (Just be glad I caught it before Suzy...) We area all supre proud of what you have accomplished so far! BTW - I am doing the OCCC sprint as well with my sis-in-law (her first tri...) Ditto. To add to this if we were comparing ourselves to each other thn I think one of my legs weiighs as much as Ryan at 132 lbs.! Ditto again. Especially what Suzy said. Nobody gets to down play their accomplishments. I love your new attitude. I think I am going to go back to my old tag line. Edited by Redknight 2010-01-27 7:06 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a great swim last night. did 2000m mostly working techniques etc. I was swimiing wth the fast peopel so had to work a little harder to keep ahead of them. They were cathcing about every 200 m but that was Ok. I know how fast those two were. I did finish with a couple of 100 m sprints at a rate of 1:48 per 100 meters. A PB for me. Feeling great about this years races again. Now I just need to get my a$$ back onto a bike and get them legs pumping. Great day ya'll. |

ATTA Girl! Now your on the right track. It's all a mental game that we play with ourselves and we can't afford to give negativity even the tinest foot hold. I am truly impressed with the distance of your first brick. My first brick will be a 10 mile ride and a two minute run. Keep up the awesome work! You are going to rock Lonestar!!!

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gotta vent as my day has not started the greatest! I set my alarm clock last night to get me up at the normal time. Wake up this morning 15 minutes late because my wife will turn the radio on, and up, when she gets ready in the morning, but then turned it down too far so there was no sound when it "went off" this morning. UGHH! Got another email today saying that places in Colorado got 3-6 inches of snow in the past day, I cannot wait for our trip next week!!! On the bright side, I got my workouts in last night, have a pretty big day today, 45 min swim and 1:15 on the trainer. My swim last night went pretty well, the Main set was 500 swim, then i did 500 fist drill, then 500 swim. The swims were supposed to be at RPE4 and I managed to do them in 8:20 or about 1:50 pace, for an easy effort they felt good and I was happy with those times. The 500 fist drill was done in 10 flat, which makes me feel pretty good about how much I am catching with my arms, I would have expected I would be slower. Then I started doing something I did not think I could... flip turns. I need to watch some videos of it, but I worked on swimming into the wall and flipping. My biggest issue so far has been perfecting timing, which I know will come with experience and more time. The second thing is when I flip, figuring out what to do with my arms (as the video I saw yesterday kept them at your sides as you flip, so they were facing the right direction when you push off) Well mine are all over the place doing that. The few times I pushed off, I realized I need to work on my foot position more as I would push and my back would then hit the bottom of the pool. I have a lot of work to do on the streamlining process, but the flip was MUCH easier than expected. Since my first tri this year is a pool swim, I want to get the turns down by then in order to help pick up a little bit of time. Plus it makes you look all the faster ![]() I think between weddings and tris this summer, I almost have every weekend filled up! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question for the group on the CT. In regards to the 2 spin scan screens. Is it true that for one screen you should have a flat line straight across, ie consistent power throughout your stroke and the other screen should be one circle? That's when the guy told me when he was fixing my CT. Mine like 2 mountains (but same size) and a figure 8 on the other. I'm having hard time making my pedal stroke consistent. Does anyone have any suggestions? BTW the CT works great now and I love it.. |

I do feel like I get a great workout in and it is motivational. Hate all the kicking and Medley drills, but I skip alot of that crap anyway. I can always just swim laps, but wondering how much the INTENSITY of the group really helps. Time to start swimming...one way or the other. I think if you have motivation issues than Masters is great. Plus if there is a real coach you will get little tips and the drills/intervals are great for getting faster. Plus in a lane assignment you can be pushed by other swimmers when other times you might slack off. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Training question/advice needed. This morning, I did a 45 minute ride on the spinning bike at the gym (following the plan I am on, details in my log) then did a set of core work. Today was also weight training so by the time I started weights, it was an hour into the workout. I struggled mightily through the first few machines and decided to stop and go back this evening and finish the rest of the machines I had planned. It seems that I was just out of energy. My wife says I should take a gu or something like that after 45 minutes to help with the energy. She is probably right. Any thoughts/advice? Also, the last week or so, I have started to get exertion headaches when doing some of the weights. It usually does not happen to later in the sets, maybe in the second set or so. It goes away, but kinda lingers and I feel it will come on again if I do what I believe I should be doing with weights. I think I am staying hydrated as I keep a water bottle with me at all times and refill at least once or twice during the hour to hour and half that I am working out. Any advice appreciated. Thanks. |
