The lined Bento is what I do - something I learned in my last race (and since) because it has been so hot, is I freeze the baggy the night before.  Stuff it into the Bento box the next morning and you have bought some time before it gets warmed up.

Just don't forget them in the freezer as you leave to the race...

It was just pointed out to me and I can now see it in the Athlete Guide, we are expected to pick up our bike the day of the race.  Hence, finish the marathon and get your bike out of transition before midnight.

I don't have the details but you can have someone pick it up for you (e.g. spouse) after 6 pm or wait until you finish to deal with it.

I had it in my head I could go get it the next day, but nope.  Finish an IM and then go pick up your bike, bags and ....ugh.

In your race packet, you will get a card for someone else to get your bike.  Give that card to your spouse/sherpa.  They can get your bike anytime after about 6 pm, while the runner is running. They will need to show photo i.d.    This is the sort of 'backup' plan they have for athletes for someone else to get their bike, particularly if the athlete is incapacited (med tent, whatever), but they don't necessarily stop people from doing it just to be efficient.   But decide if that person is going to get your bike and all your bags, or just the bike.

Team,

Can I stash an old pair of Crocks at the swim exit? I don't think I can walk barefooted all the way to T1 from the water without something on my feet. It is a really long way. Does this break any of the rules? Have others done it?

Kevin

Ok, I can't restrain myself...

Yes, you can have a family member slip you some crocks or email the race director...but seriously, you plan to run 26.2 miles in trainers but can't walk/jog 0.25 miles (4 or 5 minutes?) along a carpet over asphault barefoot?

HTFU. Practice running barefoot for 2-3 minutes a few times on grass, then on asphault with socks one. Train for T2. You can do it. If this is a limiter, then do something about it ahead of time. See if you can't work up to several minutes of barefoot running/walking. I will bet on you, the athlete, every time.

Embrace the fact that your foot is not supported but you can get it stronger and do this. Use low, shuffling steps with a quick cadence to minimize landing shock. But moving is moving and that takes less time.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Dale

HAHA Dale... I can't restrain myself either.

Kevin!!! You've been training for close to a year for this race. You endure cold, heat, GI issues, cramps, getting up at 4-5am, 4 hour rides on the trainer in winter, training late, peeved off significant others, countless trips to the LBS and a MASS swim start in which you will be gobbled up in the first 300 yards and yet you are worried about a 1/4 mile jaunt to T1. Your adrenaline will be pumping so hard you won't even notice. At Syracuse 70.3 last year it was 55 degrees air temp after the swim and the 600 yard run to T1 was on pavement... cold as heck pavement with no carpet and IF they swept it wasn't a good sweep of the rocks.

This is IRONMAN not BALSAWOODMAN.

(This past statement has been said it a fun light and is not meant to be construed as mean or hateful. This statement does not represent the opinion of anyone else including but not limited to, Balsa trees, Bigfoot, Dali Lama, Lochness, Honey Badger... wait... yes the Honey Badger agrees actually.)

Had a fun mock sprint tri with my training group last night but ARRRRGGGH goggles would not stop fogging!! I was blind.  Had the TYR anti fog spray in them.  What's a girl to do??

It was funny to try and go fast with all the miles in these legs...my coach was trying to be encouraging and get me to have faster turnover in the run...I told him it was all his fault LOL!!

I hate to tell you all that Kevin is having the last laugh.  He is $^&%^%! with you.  No chance a triathlete considering a IM hasnt run a few B or C races that have crappy paths to T1.   Now if he asked about 23mm or 25mm wide tires, well then he's legit but has a day job and isnt so tri-geeky during taper.  Tongue out

Thank you to those that have reached out to me the last couple days, I apologize about not responding yet as I haven't been in the best spirits.  Also...drugs have been kicking my butt like crazy! lol Took a 4 hour nap yesterday and it was heavenly!

Doctors appointment determined that I won't need surgery and that it should heal wearing this figure 8 brace.  I do go back in 2 weeks just to make sure the bones are starting to fuse back together on their own and in the right line.

I'm going to take full advantage of them not giving me my money back.  I'll go to the dinner Saturday night which will include signing up for 2013!  I will pick up my swag bag and wear my wrist strap into transition area just so I can be familiar with the layout and everything.

And I still plan on meeting everyone Friday morning since it looks like I'll be allowed!

Hey hold on there, don't get carried away. I still have not received everyone's secret ballot to determine that....

In all seriousness, that is really great news - as we all know it could have been much, much worse. Looking forward to seeing you at the swim. Which BTW, I am still voting for 9am on Friday...

Pack attempt #37  I have managed to pack everything into one 15.5 X 13.5 Basic Drawstring Sack Pack.  This was all accomplished after studying origami,  I have been able to fold all my race gear a into swan or a crane (working on a full size working Tri bike).

OT: My bosses son just swam in the Olympic trials for the 200M butterfly last week...he didn't beat Phelps though.  Pretty cool experience he said going there though, very intense atmosphere.  He also just sent me this, it's his son's friend and thought it was a pretty cool swim endurance race.

Dude!!! where did you get those,  they freakin rock.  Do they come in Green?

Ever since Nike quit making the Free 7.0 I have been using custom shoes ordered through their iD program. You can pretty much customize every aspect of the shoe, including colors. Here is a green pair that I put together:

Dream Crushers

OK How far is it from the water to T1? I may have to tough it out, but there is no way I can run barefooted even for a few steps.

Kevin

I can give you a piggyback ride... For a small fee

Bobby, what is your current fee for a piggyback ride around the second loop of the run? I would like to go ahead and reserve a spot...

Well , since you mailed me the BT Tat  - I'll just give you a piggy back for the second loop and we'll call it even.

And BTW, My a$$umption is that Chevy can't run due to a medical condition afflicting the soles of his feet.  Or a nasty corn on his toe; battling PF;  Or some really damn good explanation other than "I don't like to run on hard surfaces."

Huh? Piggy back rides for second loop? Can I hop on? Tell ya what ~ u gimme a piggy back ride on the second loop and we can stop 2x on River Rd. at my friends house for a nice cold beer   Beats the flat coke, right?

Anyway, I don't think anyone mentioned the Athlete tracker yet.  I am ordering one and they are pretty easy to use for everyone who is up there jockstrapping for you.  My husband wore one for IMFL and I knew pretty much exactly when he was going to show up within @ 5 mins.

www.myathletelive.com is their website if anyone is interested.

NOW you are talking....

Thanks for the reminder about Athlete Tracker. I used one last year and it worked reasonably well at Lake Placid. It does need a cellular network to operate, so last year it did suffer some dropouts here and there according to the folks I had watching it, but not nearly as bad as the official IronmanLive tracker. Also, the Sherpas that I had last year in LP said that the cellular network in town gets a little overwhelmed on race day. They had no problems placing and receiving calls and texts, but web surfing was sluggish at best, so the MyAthleteLive website was innaccessible to them off and on throughout the day. They were actually getting text updates from folks watching the MyAthleteLive tracker from home. Ah, Technology!

The best thing about MyAthleteLive.com is that it shows all the racers using the service on the same page. All my folks watching from home thought that it showed ALL of the people in the race, and they thought I won the whole thing! Too, too funny...

It is a great service within the limitations of the location - I cannot reccomend it enough.

Definitely thanks for the reminder.  How does the delivery of the unit work?  Do they Overnight FedEx it for you to the location you will be staying?  I'm not sure if someone has to sign for it or what.  I'm signing up either way I just figured someone would know the logistics.
