Extreme Veteran 1123 Sidney, Ohio | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles I had another good race today, this time it was a 10k and I managed to set a new PR by a whole second. Surprisingly though the effort was not very hard, I went out with a goal of just holding a steady pace throughout and stay strong. 1st mile was fast as I got caught up in the event and ran it at 7:05, but the remaining miles all came in between 7:22 and 7:30. Last mile came in at 7:24 so I still had a bit in the tank, I really think the consistent running I have been doing for the last 8 months is really starting to show. Now to ease up for the HIM that is coming up in 2 weeks. |

I usually blow up after a fast first mile. Up to 353 for the year...clearly behind the pace bunny but almost overtaking last year's total already (375). |

Hey give us an update on your surgery PopsRacer, I just love all yyour comments and advice, thanks. I'm at 590 miles now and it is hot and humid in FL and going to bump up my mileage some. Hey how do ya'll motivate yourself to go out and run in the rain. I'm fine if I'm out and it starts raining but I hate going out in the rain. Advice? |

Today I ran 5 miles moderately and then topped it off with some strides at the end. Slowly feel like my legs are getting more accustomed to extra biking mileage! Great job to all of you. |

New user 410 | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Steve that's great you have another marathon so soon! I am at 770.5. I have a sprint this Saturday, first of the year. Swim is pokey but hoping to see some improvement on bike and run over last year. I just got my clip in pedals in the mail this week, never tried them before. I am on a stay cation next week so I should have lots of practice time with this new skill. |

A little behind where I would like to be, but ramped up the miles this past week and am feeling better. Was in a bit of a slump. Got out for my first 'real' trail run today it was awesome. 13 miles of single track trail all through the woods. Lots of hills, roots, rocks, even a freshly felled tree to climb over.

Veteran 301 Smithfield, VA | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Mid June Check in for me is as follows: 2014 total Miles = 367.9. 84 miles off the pace, but getting closer. For the month, I'm at 59.2 miles, which is down a little as last week was a taper for Sunday's Oly. I jump into HIM training today for a September event, so I'm hoping to catch that rabbit before then. I haven't written my race report yet, but it was a great day for me. First time I ever averaged 20+mph on the bike during any event. Also, I set a new 10k PR, knocking down my previous 55:39 personal best (stand-alone 10k road race), to a new best time of 53:06 (Oly with 1/2 the course gravel packed, rolling-hills trail.) I'd only done one other Oly before, so not much to compare to. That one had a 5 mile shorter bike ride, and it still took me 21:26 longer. Factoring that in, and I think I shaved almost 40 minutes on an Oly course. Next "A" race on the schedule is a HIM. I've only done one of those before too, and I struggled to a 7:01:01 finish time then. I think I can knock an hour off of that, maybe even 90 minutes. Cheers all. |

Those are some pretty substantial improvements. I'm sure you will achieve similar gains on your upcoming HIM. "Other" things matter more in an HIM than an Oly like nutrition, hydration, proper pacing so be sure you have an opportunity to work those out over the summer. |

Extreme Veteran 1123 Sidney, Ohio | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Mileage check in: Currently sitting at 592 miles, which is ahead of the bunny but continue to fall behind the cheetah I wanted to keep up with. I will rely on the Fall running to catch up with him As for performance, I continue to improve on my speed. A few weeks back I posted i set a PR in a 5K at 20:57, this past weekend I ran a 21:07...at the end of a sprint tri. I couldn't believe it as I thought I toasted myself on the bike trying to hold 22mph (managed 21). But coming off the bike I somehow managed to run each mile faster than the previous (7:02, 6:55, 6:52) probably the most fun I have had on a run yet. Currently resting up for a HIM on Sunday that has 4000ft of gain combined between the bike and run which should prove to be an interesting challenge. Good thing this is just a "practice" race for my A race in September. Just keep running folks! |

I love reading everyone's comments. The one above from Justin....I'm going to try to channel that attitude this evening for my 4.5 trail race. I'm usually so tense just waiting for the next fall, tweak, or ankle roll but I'm going to just try to enjoy it. Edited by Pink Socks 2014-06-21 7:48 AM |
