I don't think that anyone will doubt a bunch of tapering triathletes ability to post 50 pages of content in the next 3 weeks. I actually think we have been pretty good about keeping things on topic; this thread is definitely not TAN.

Just the FE coordination alone will probably take up another 20 pages.

Lake temps are creeping up.  Looks like 53 degrees-ish now.

I also looked at the 10 day forecast....which is a real sign that our day is coming very soon.

I need some inspirational words from my coach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaIvk1cSyG8

Hey Guys.

For those of you doing Cd'A 2011, I've organized a bike ride on Friday June 24, departing at 9:30AM from Cyclemetrix Bike Shop at Dalton Gardens (right off N 4th St. on the bike course).

First Endurance and some of my other sponsors will provide samples and merchandise. This is a chance to meet people, shake off some pre-race jitters and walk away with cool stuff. The ride will last ~1hr. The pace is easy and social. Bring your friends and family.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or comments. I will post an update in case details change.

Happy training, it's almost taper time....

JC Ramirez

Will plan to meet up on Fri. at swim, etc. Thurs. I am volunteering at the ticket table in the registration tent. Figure it'll be a good sit down job for a few hours.
Also wanted to put this out here now while I'm thinking about it -- If your planning on leaving any sort of nutrition other than gels on your bike when you drop it off Sat. you may want to reconsider. The squirels in the park had a feast last year and tore up a lot of bento boxes while they were at it.
Hope everyone is having a good week and starting to feel prepared!

The Honey Badger is my Shepherd; I shall not disappoint.

He maketh me swim in cold waters:

He leadeth me beside the slow and week swimmers.

He restoreth my freezing body:

He leadeth me into T1 and the path of biking 112 miles of righteousness.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of T2 into the shadow of 26.2 miles,

I will fear no evil marathon: For thou Honey Badger is with me;

Thy Gue and thy Sport dink, they comfort me.

Thou Honey Badger preparest me for my IRONMAN;

Thou annointest my head with cold sponges and ice; My cup of Power Bar Perform runneth
over.

Surely
the spirit of the Honey Badger shall follow me on my day of IRONMAN,

because the Honey Bader don’t give a F&%$ about no 140.6 Mile Race!!

quick odd question for you all. I have an issue with longer runs and rubbing raw just below my arm pits. I have tried glide and a couple other things but nothing has worked yet. Any ideas for you folks on how to combat this? I know the Honey Badger don't care and I don't either until the next day.

You might try aquasphere, or Pam cooking spray --- garlic flavor or buttery.

I think she means aquaphor, not aquasphere--you'd look silly having goggles hanging off your arm pits and they're likely not to reduce chaffing.  BUT, I highly recommend aquaphor, that stuff is awesome. Like Vaseline but BETTER. I use it as my chamios cream as well.

Should you go the Pam option, be careful on flavor, that might make Honey Badger hungry...and we've seen what he does to cobras...

Just in case anyone else was wondering - one of the most fun things about IM to me has always been crafting a creative, hilarious job title to be displayed on the Athlete Tracker and occasionally used when you cross the finish line. This year when we registered we had to select from a list of drop down titles (lame!).

So I emailed Athlete Services and they said you could update your job title when you checked in during race week

In 2007 I was a Cat Wrangler and in 2008 I was an Uncrustable Evangelist. I'm thinking 2011 may have to be the Honey Badger Hypnotist. What do you guys think?

Honey Badger Whisperer.  But HB's don't listen.  Because they don't care.

Long run this weekend was doing great until mile 12ish when I stopped in a McDs (yuck) to pee and refill my bottles.  One my first running stride out of the place my right IT band locked up solid.  I was peg leg walking for a good 5 mins before I coudl even ebnd it.  Took a mile of slow walking to get it bending again enough to run.

Lesson learned: don't stop...

Looks like the foam roller and I have a date a few times a day for the next few weeks.

One thing to watch out for; I am assuming this is a tech shirt.  The fibers of tech material are hollow and if you are not careful to get all of the soap out of the fibers, it will mix with your sweat and basically make a weak lye that will quickly burn your skin. When it has happened to me, it is always where the sweat accumulates the most.

I regularly wash my tech clothes with distilled vinegar because it neutralizes/dissolves the soap and allows it to wash out. Even more interesting is that it gets rid of the funk that tends to accumulate in old tech gear. Once I started doing this, most of the chaffing issues on longer workouts went away. (For me anyway

New topic to help fill 49 more pages:  what to do when things go south on race day.

waterdogg's IMCDA 2008 RR is the best I've seen for handling race day catastrophe with grace and a superior attitude.  give it a read if you haven't happened on it yet: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=121732

I love race reports that tell the story of a less than perfect day.  They are full of great nuggets to keep in mind when planning and racing so that you can keep your body moving and attitude intact if murphy's law strikes.

do you have a favorite RR in this category?

Wow - I'm sure I read this in 2008 but it's such a great read again! Thank you for posting!!! One thing I always remember is something PNF told me at IM Camp in 2008 and that's "Figure it out, Find a way!" and it sounds like that's just what Waterdogg did

Thanks for this.  I'm going to give the vinegar a try.  I was thinking I was going to have to pitch some of my clothes.
