Member 75 Huntley, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Skipped the brick run today...WAY TOO HOT! My butt melted to my bike seat. Anyone have TYR carbon tri shorts??? Bought these for my husband and I, and we tried them out today. #1: The pad is poorly designed in that the edges are not sewed down evenly with the fabric and they don't feel that great (but kinda got used to it over 70 miles); but more importantly.... #2: These shorts are completely shear!! Riding behind my husband with the sun shining, I could see everything, butt cheeks and crack! Seriously?? $120 tri shorts and this is what we get?? Not sure if we'll be using these in the Ironman, but if we do, we apologize in advance. |

Veteran 526 Richmond | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Got a 4 hr ride in today, but it sure got hot the second half. I've been skipping bricks with my knee issues I've had, so I'll be running tomorrow morning and will get out early as possible. Last week my 2 hr run was much worse than my 5 hr bike in terms of dealing with the heat. Not looking forward to the run tomorrow. It's already 100 and supposed to get up to 104 today and tomorrow here in Richmond. Stay safe in the heat. 2 more weeks!!! |

I wanted to try the carbon, but I'm not so sure now. I'm sure there is a dif between females and males though ... Desoto seem to have the best reviews for women and men. I have the Carrera, which I will wear in IM. I also have the Forza (compression) and 400 miler from Desoto, but the thin pad wins on the CArreras for IM! |

My bike computer even overheated!!!!! I had planned to run 13 after my ride today, just too hot. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the "cooler" temps tomorrow. Should I complete the rest of my ride? Try a shorter brick? Suggestions please!!!! |

Actually, I like the pad, and they are the fastest drying material I've ever worn, so... kinda love them so far. But... I train alone, so I have no idea if they are see through or not- I have the black ones. What color does your husband have? Either way, for what they cost I'll be wearing them anyway |

Master 1494 Kingston Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Well 2 hrs into my 5.5 hr ride I crashed It was raining and the rider in front of me went down on a corner. I hit my left elbow, head and left hip and spent the morning in ER getting checked out. All clear thank goodness but now I have to rest a few days Can't swim with this elbow abrasion...was supposed to do a sprint tri tomorrow. Oh well it could have been wayyyy worse. We had just finished the hard hilly part of the ride anyways so that was good! Jeepers it looks like many people's training went down the tubes today as well. I was lucky about the heat part of it...it was an inferno last night but the rain cooled it off quite a bit

Ooh, scary stuff! Glad you're mostly OK. Hope the elbow and everything else heals up quickly for you. I had a 4/1 hr. brick to do today which I decided to switch till tomorrow cuz of the heat. It's just miserable! Lately LP has been high 70's. Im thinking arm warmers. Stay hydrated!! |

Extreme Veteran 567 Rochester, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread I was able to get my 4 hour ride in today, though my run got cut short because of thunderstorms. I did manage to get in a mile OWS in though so I feel good about that. It was hot for sure I didn't feel it during the ride but I was sweating more then normal, and later on started to feel sick. I've been drinking lots of fluids and now I'm back to normal. Kinda scary how fast things got bad for me. Will have to keep drinking so I can do the 2 hour run tomorrow. |

Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread I'd like to publicly Thank Rusty for the BT tattoo. But it got me thinking, why is he doing this? Out of the kindness of his own heart? Nah. He's doing it cause of GUILT!! I accidentally hacked into his real training account on TrainingPeaks and he logged 55 miles running last week alone. And this week he's already at 38 miles. He's doing his long runs at a 7:05 Pace and hitting 5:45's on mid-week track workouts. What's even more unnerving was I guessed his TrainingPeaks password the first attempt. DESTROYDREAMCHASER. |

The BT tattoo is awesome and will definitely be sported during the race. I feel bad now with my training temperatures...I hear all you guys having 95+ heat, bright a$$ sun...I think on my longest ride it topped at 80, overcast all but 2 hours...and 70 the rest of the time. Now with the weather predictions you guys have been posting it'll just be like I'm at home! can't wait to see you all there, 9am for swim Friday I'm game for. Safe training until we all meet. |

Master 1494 Kingston Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Thanks gang My Princess bike is just fine. I got the bar tape changed so now it has the "embarrassingly too white" look to it, just like new running shoes. I just found out that another rider in our group that was way ahead of me went down on the same corner I wonder what the heck was wrong there. We had just finished a hilly, twisty part of the ride with no issues and this was just a regular corner...huh. |

Extreme Veteran 763 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread I feel like I am between a rock and a hard place. My bike has not been shifting right and I could not get it dialed in so I took it to my favorite Bike Shop for service. They after multiple test rides tracked the problem to the read derailleur. They changed it and got me on my way. My wife thought this was my strategy to buy a new bike. Anyway I got it back and it shifted like a dream. I got back from my ride yesterday and had a message on the machine from the service manager of the bike shop. His message was for me to call him he had some information for me. Now my wife is convinced of the new bike conspiracy. When i called him back he said that in the process of troubleshooting my shifting problem they noticed what they thought was a crack in the frame. They called Cervelo and determined that this really was a crack and that the frame needs to be replaced. The new frame will be here Tuesday however I am out of town all week on business so I wont be able to get it back till Saturday. That leaves 7 taper days to shake it out before LP. I am torn between waiting till after the race, but it seems more risky to ride on a cracked frame than to swap it out one week before the event. What do you think? Kevin |

Lots of bike crashes lately...and other niggling injuries. This peak volume of the recent past will be replaced very soon by some good healing and recovery. Then, of course, we'll all start feeling antsy and ready to race. The new bar tape will only help you find your bike in transition. (I changed mine to Cervelo red after my recent fall.) |

Veteran 148 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread I can understand the concern about shaking out a new bike, but this would not even be a question for me if there was a discovered crack in my bike. I think you have been given a gift to know ahead of time you have a crack. Imagine the alternative. Get the new bike and roll with it (pun intended.) Best you have a solid frame than worry about it up to and throughout the race.

Kevin I say this in all seriousness, not to overdo things and in full consideration of how much sacrifice we have all put into preparation. It would be better to skip the race than to ride a cracked frame. Swap the frame and your LBS should be able to set it up precisely the same way with all your measurements. I know it will weigh in your mind that you haven't done a long ride on the new set up, but that is far far better than having a significant equipment failure at speed.
