Ok, I know you changed race timing, but can you refresh this old ladies memory on the question.  I believe you are going to take 8 weeks to focus on some heavy duty biking, right?  Frankly,  I am surprised John didn't lay out all his wisdom.  or perhaps he did and you are still searching for the right answer?

Run:15h 05m 16s  - 102.63 Mi
Swim:7h 40m  - 19650 Yd
Strength:1h 30m

So my race schedule changed as follows:  Deletion of Olympic Race on 11 July, which would have been my "A" race and the end of my season, and addition of Oly on Aug 15th followed by my FIRST HIM on Sept 8th.  My first race of the season is in May (Sprint) followed by a June OLY.  So instead of my race season being from May to July, it is now May-Sept, with a longer RAce as my "A" race for the year.

Because of this schedule change, it messes up my whole training schedule, which started on 11 Jan.  Now, based on the HIM, I my plan wouldnt start until the end of March/beginning of April.

My dilemma is that I don't know what to do until March/April.  I do want to improve my Bike, but I have worked hard to get my run where it is now, and dont want to drop my run numbers to less than 25 mi/wk except for R&R weeks.  I am looking for advice as to how to train for basically the next 2 months, to best prepare me for HIM training.

I may also run a half marathon at the end of March, depending on how my new plan pans out.

Thanks again.

It sounds like maybe you don't need to change things that much.  You could still continue the same base training and then use the same plan that you were going to use for the first Oly in June.  There is a 12 week "Bridge from Oly to HIM" that timing wise might fit your June 20 to Sept 8 HIM.  I think it is a silver plan program.  Even if your Oly is not your A race, I would imagine you still want to do a build to it?  What plan were you originally going to use for your Oly?

Hey Barry--go ride your bike, will ya?

Hey Chris--sounds like a soleous issue to me....do you have the TP massage equipment?  if so pull out the block and the small roller and go to town like
this.  It is a relatively easy fix if caught early.

Did my first 20 minute consecutive run since November 7th.  Progress!

YEAH!!!  PROGRESS IS GOOD!

Congrats on the run Suzy!

I don't have any of the TP massage equipment.  I normally just use my foam roller.  You are not the first person who has mention those.  They might have to be my next purchase.

I'm going today for an official bike fit.  My last was more of an eyeball deal just to make sure it's close.  I'm pretty stoked to see what improvements we can make.

I am such a slacker!

I will post my hours tonight after I upload my last few workouts, pretty good month, below what the plan says, but I am also not sticking 100% to the plan.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, back to work now!  Two more days for me then its time to hit the slopes.

I got on the treadmill on Sat morning for the easiest 4.5 mile run.  I was really focusing on forefoot running, my I can feel it in my calves but it my HR was so much lower than normal, maybe it was the different treadmill I was on since we were out of town.

Here's my numbers for the month.  I was hoping the swim total would be a little higher but overall, it's not too bad.

I'm about a week behind so I'll try to catch up during the day today, but wanted to let you guys know that I registered for my first tri for 2010 yesterdaySmile.  It's a sprint on May 23 at Carlyle Lake in Illinois - Gateway Triathlon & Duathlon.  I know someone who did the Olympic distance last year and he said it was pretty well done (especially since last year was the first year for it).  Kind of small - only about 100 people between both sprint and olympic distances - but is expected to be bigger this year.  It will be my first OWS tri so that has me a little nervous, but I've got plenty of time to get ready for it.

****************    Warning...Training Question Below  ******************

Ok, so I just found out they have moved my "B" race this year to an earlier date which screwed everything up.  So now I have to rework my race schedule for 2010.

My question is for you "long time runners" out there.  Is it possible, if I come off several months of base training (my logs are on BT) with one sprint and three Oly's earlier in the year, to ramp up my running to complete a full Marathon (would be my first) with 9 weeks intensive training?  Any suggestions on a plan to increase my running significantly right after my 1st A race without getting hurt?

Oh, and I can not have a bad showing at my "A" race nine weeks earlier because it is my War on ALS- Blazeman Foundation  (http://www.waronals.comfundraiser race.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks, Dino

The most running I have ever done...almost 25% of my 2009 total.  Half marathon at the end of the month is the focus but I shold probably add some run/swim into the mix so I am not too far behind come March.

John- I will be in Houston this weekend...you up for a run?

Very cool Janet.

If you can get in any OWS practice beforehand it would help.  If not, make sure you get in the water a bit early, when I get in the first time my HR seems to shoot up for a bit, then I calm down and get comfortable and all is well.

IMO training for a marathon was harder work than what I am doing for a HIM.

What I would do is start a marathon plan 16-20 weeks out and overlap that with your oly training.  Obviously you'll be overtrained for the running in your olympic but you will be prepared for the marathon.

Dino

What is the goal for the marathon? to finish?

I do not believe that 9 weeks of intensive training is the way to go either.  3 of those weeks should be devoted to a taper leaving you with too few weeks to build your long runs.  I agree with Tony, marathon training is significantly harder on the body than triathlon, especially if this is your first.   The fact that your "A" race is 9 weeks before the marathon isn't an issue, but the way your race calendar lays out would dictate when to start marathon training. Can you provide those details?

Tony and I signed up for our first race of the year last night.  A short sprint Mar. 27.  Our coach thought it would be a good idea to roll through the motions to get ready for Lonestar.

And weather alert for the DC area - it will snow on Feb. 28 since I also signed up for a 1/2 marathon that day.

sdalessio - 2010-02-01 10:07 AM Tony and I signed up for our first race of the year last night.  A short sprint Mar. 27.  Our coach thought it would be a good idea to roll through the motions to get ready for Lonestar.

And weather alert for the DC area - it will snow on Feb. 28 since I also signed up for a 1/2 marathon that day.

lol.  we're racing again same distance same day.  this time my money is on you though.  mardi gras 1/2.  i'll probably just wear my running gear out saturday afternoon that way i can just walk out of the whatever bar i'm in in the quarter sunday morning and over to the start.

well this is not going to be a PR effort for me easier.  I am not in that kind of running shape.  I think our neighborhood friends plan on doing OBX again in NOv. but the 1/2 instead of the M.  That will be a PR effort - not only to beat my neighbor AGAIN but to start my second BQ quest.  My plan - Nov. 1/2 M, Jan. Goofy challenge and Mar. a super flat, fast course at Virginia Beach.

Nice...  Of course you will still run even if it snows - right?

If I can still drive there, I will.  There is only one cream puff in our family!
