ETA I love the "Slow Fat Triathlete!!" This is another one of those things that inspired me to become a triathlete in the first place.

I put up a really good fight, Manatees, but you know I can't resist precious pet pics.

Or hot redheads.

And he already comes with a nickname.

You can see how this was inevitable. He'll swim over soon.

Bio: whatever you want from format below and/or whatever you want us to know.

We believe the journey is the reward, and look forward to having you as a fellow traveler.

NAME: Troy Carlson (the 78 is for the year of my FJ40 Land cruiser)

STORY: I literally failed and found my way into multisport. A few years ago I failed my Air Force fitness test because of a half inch to much on an AC measurement but I did very well on the other portions. I failed because I did not make fitness a priority. It now was! I started running and spinning at my local gym which also had a pool so why not add that too. After passing my test with a score of 97/100 earning max points on my AC measurement (lost 5 inches) in about 100 days. I was eager to do more and start looking for events. I also found BT during this time too and had a lot of fun learning and meeting other members. I have retired from the Air Force a year ago and have been engaged in an extended job search. I am fortunate that I do have a part time adjunct instructor position at my local university, teaching intro to Geographic Information Systems.

FAMILY STATUS: Family situation married, 3 kids, 4 cats, 2 dogs and 1 tortoise
CURRENT TRAINING: I have not been training recently. I need to adjust my priorities.
THIS YEAR'S RACES/EVENTS: Have not registered for any but looking to do my first Half Iron Superior Man
BODY COMPOSITION: currently 6'2" 230ish Lbs, Goal is to get to 210 lbs, perhaps 200 lbs if that is a healthy weight for me.

Looking forward to meeting all of you and the support we will share.

Troy

Started off the new year by agreeing to do a portion of a friend's 12 mile run this morning. I committed to 5-6...almost went 7 (I had serious issues looking at my Garmin saying 6.75. It almost screamed to me, "Just run another quarter mile and make it a nice 7...we don't have time for this .75 bull).

She tried to talk me into the full 12. I almost considered it.

If you had posted this before, it's highly likely you would have heard a "Just doooooo eeeeeeet!" from the Pod. Something to consider in the future

Yes, what Goody said...
DOOOO EEEEET and "do as I say, not as... " seems to float here often... you know what else floats?

So proceed with caution. Those who do remain among the wise, and few.

Welcome to the Pod, Troy!  Have you considered joining Team RWB?  It's for active and retired military as well as civilians.  The goal is to get the military folks engaged in their health (you're clearly doing that!!) and reintegrate into the community.  They have local chapters as well as the national one and also have a Team RWB triathlon team.  Once you join, you can get into the FB groups.  My local group does weekly workouts and social events.  There's no cost and it's a pretty cool organization.

On another note, let me know if you want to take part in the Salty Manatee Month of Motivational Mayhem.  The rules are on p. 1 of this thread.  I'll be checking logs tonight so there's still time to sign up.

Happy New Year to everybody!!  Good to see that folks are getting out there and doing fun stuff today.  I'm planning to do a 15-min. test run to see how the knee holds up.  We have ~2-3" of packed-down snow so footing could be interesting.  At least it's sunny and warming up a bit.  A couple of days ago, it barely got above 0* F.  Today is predicted to be in the 20's.  The squirrels are out and the dogs are having a field day!

I am in on the madness. I think I'll take the dogs out for a long walk and then haul totes up and down stairs cleaning up holiday decorations.

I have heard about Team RWB. I should look into it more.

Can I join the Mayhem games, too please?

Do I have to post what I'm going to do next week or just that I'm going to do some sort of workout every day? I will always be doing at least 30 minutes every day of something. I never get a day off. Sometimes I think my coach is a little crazy but I love it so I'm not going to complain.

Nope, don't have to post in advance.  Just post each workout as you do it.

Wow, we have 18 Manatees in the challenge.  Let the mayhem begin!!  And don't forget:

manatee,puns,keep calm,salad

Welcome Troy, I am just the most recent to give you a big "Thank You!" for your service. It looks like we are roughly the same size and I can tell you that every pound I dropped helped not only my racing but my everyday life as well. I am back to the 220's at this point and hoping to race between 205-210 this year. Doc says 200 is where he'd like me, but I don't know if that challenge meshes well with my love of food. So, let's see what we can do in this battle of the bulge, shall we?

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
