We've had some super duper results from the MG the last few weeks, PRs and podiums galore.  Who's ready to be added to that list?  Racing? spill it!!

If you're not racing, what's up for the July 4th weekend?

Not racing this weekend and not doing much for the holiday weekend. Probably get out to do a longish ride and maybe a long run.  My wife is working Saturday so it screws up us going any distance. ( our holiday is Friday July 1). If I can get to the lake I'll throw in a swim.

My plan is to come home from Germany. No racing until 7/10. I ran at my hotel last night. If you don't like the trainer imagine this: One mediocre treadmill, no AC, and TV that only has two English speaking channels (both neews). Oh, and the room is in the basement, with no windows. I think my 10.17 km should count more as a handicap for those conditions.

I am  between meetings here in Regensberg and it is beautiful outside. The rain is coming and the temperature is due to drop in half. I would LOVE to go out and run one loop in the Ironman course (it is 4 loops). Oh well, glad to see such good results from the MG!

My next race is an Oly on July 17.   No big plans for the 4th weekend - it is just another weekend here in Japan.  I guess I could put out a flag, shoot off a few bottle rockets, fire up the Bar-B and down a few brews.   I will at least down a few brews.

A little update on my racing plans...I was going to do a short HIM (only 70km on the bike) on Sep 24, but they cancelled that race because of slightly elevated radiation readings in the green tea leaves in that area.  It is actually pretty far from the Fukushima nuke plants, but the right combination weather/wind can result in higher levels in more distant locales.   Anyway, earlier this week I signed up for a half IM on Sep 17 - it is the only IM (trademark) sponsored event in Japan this year.   So, that means 90km on the bike and it includes some hills.

I got out today and did about 80km - longest ride in about a year. I will only say that I am glad I have another 11 weeks to get my act together.

Good luck racing peeps!!

Interesting article and video on fine-tuning your stroke for open water. Take-home points are less emphasis on the front end of the stroke (glide), faster turnover, good catch mechanics, and more focus on the back-end of the stroke. The reasoning is that in choppy water and/or crowded conditions, you're going to lose extension and glide, so better to get to the propulsion faster. I'd love to hear any reactions/thoughts from the group.

My daughter turns 4 on the 4th, so we're celebrating America's Independence and the day my wife and I lost our independence .  We have BBQ's planned for Saturday and Sunday with different groups of friends and family.  The actual 4th should be low key and we're looking forward to being able to take the kids to do 4th "stuff" instead of having to prepare for a party.

I'm off this Friday too and am really looking forward to a nice, long weekend.

Racing a 1/2 this weekend... Going to ride it on my wheels. Its going to be mentally very tough for me i think.

I had an amazing race here last year, totally exceeding expectations. I feel like I am in better shape than last year, but I have this feeling that I am not going to beat last years time. I need to practise more of these 'process goals'. I suck at process goals. I know its going to hurt already, but mentally I'm so much more invested in the IMC.

tricrazy - 2011-06-28 7:48 PM Help me!!  I am totally freaking out!!  I have 2 months until Louisville.  I had a disaster of a half this past weekend.  I was really hoping it would be a confidence booster, instead it shattered any belief I had left that I could do this.  I go back and forth between crying and feeling so sick to my stomach that I can't eat.  I know in my head that it is just a race and not the end of the world but I want to prove to myself that I can do this.  I didn't feel this freaked out when I had my children.

Woah!  Been there...exactly what happened in that half??? write down the few things that are a problem and take those two months to resolve them.  You have time for ALMOST anything.

The bike was so hard I could only complete 28 miles and I had to stop.

Didn't watch (but I will) but dayum... my OWS is so sucky compared to pool swimming. At CDA camp, on longer sets I was even with a guy who swam a :56 at CDA. It really irks me!! Granted, he doesn't come from a swimming background so I know he gets more benefit from a wetsuit than I do, but 9 minutes??? I think I lollygag out there, which isn't the worst thing as it takes less out of me for the bike, but it is frustrating to have such a huge delta between my pool and OWS times. I'll give it a watch for sure later when I have more time. Thanks, Julia!!

No racing here but I do have a big day planned.  Race Rehearsal on course on Saturday which calls for a 20-30' swim in Lake MI (first time in the really cold water all year, send me some CDA warmth Kyla!), Full 56 mi course ride with race nutrition and at race pace on power, with a 6 mile or 60' brick run whichever occurs 1st.  Even at outta T2 Glacial Pace ...... It better be the 6 miles!!!      Laughing

For the 4th, since we live 5 houses off the street with the big city parade we host "Camping Breakfast" (pancakes, bacon, eggs cooked in bacon grease, sausages, coffee cake, etc.) every year in the driveway with Bloody Mary's (with a good Milwaukee brewed Miller chaser).  We usually end up feeding about 100 people.  Have to balance cooking and the run up to the parade route to see, HECKLE, and get pictures of the girls marching by with high school band (Pom's) when they pass.  It's an early morning with the parade starting at 9:00 am, but a good time is always had by all.  Usually requires a good nap in the afternoon before the fireworks!  Oh, and everybody is welcome!

Good luck to all the Racers, be safe and ......  REPRESENT!!!

The video has a lot more detail than the article, so it's worth watching. My OWS is much slower than my pool pace, too. I'm all about the catch up and glide. I did a drill set one day where I did 50s of swim golf, 5x focus on glide, 5 x focus on strong catch, and 5x focus on strong end of pull. I got the most benefit from focusing on the catch. Maybe I should be doing some paddle work?

This. And my in-laws are not the blowing-stuff-up types. The kids and I might need to run some errands so we can go find someplace to blow stuff up. You can't celebrate the 4th properly without fireworks!

Rachel!!!!

THe good news is IM LOU is nothing like your HIM bike course!!!  Ask yourself why you quit? hills? didn't manage nutrition well? bad pacing? some of those things are easy to fix in two months.  If it was the hills, you won't see them!  How was the swim?

You have time.  You have to step back and evaluate your strategy before the race and what needs to happen after.  All despair will do is shrink your confidence.  It won't do a thing for your performance.

Be strong girl

No racing for this chica this weekend.  Unless you call speeding out the door to get to Minocqua a race.  We're leaving tonight and returning NEXT WEDNESDAY!!  Even got my long ride/brick run out of the way today so the weekend is mainly about hanging with the man, attending a couple of parties and sunning myself on the boat like a beached whale!

I've been an OWS slacker of late so I do plan to take advantage of Paul a little....he's agreed to kayak daily if I want him to.

Race hard peeps!

No racing.  Just hanging out.  Before the weekend, I am hoping to get (permission from the wife to get) two rides in tomorrow -- 25 miles at 6am and another 25 at 6pm.  Will be tiring but good day.  Looking forward to a wonderful long weekend.

Good luck to all our racing peeps.  Represent.
